  1. We aren't exactly close to abolishing the 2nd Amendment, so everyone can relax about their guns. As I said, if Sandy Hook didn't result in any dramatic changes in gun control laws, this is not going to do anything either. That being said, having a gun would have been fairly useless in this scenario. You aren't going to take out a guy on the 32nd floor with a pistol. It would be terribly reckless to even try. So what about the cake decorator case. Is cake decoration an example of art?
  2. Into the great wide open.
  3. The light is on but nobody is home. He is off life support, so just a matter of time.
  4. Aren't we? Sadly most of us have had these conversations before. I'm guessing the missile through the hotel window option is frowned on by the hotel industry.
  5. I can tell you our school response system is thorough and has evolved over the years. It is also important to note that Sandy Hook, while terribly tragic, had the potential to be much worse if teachers had not followed the procedures in place. You aren't going to be able to stop this stuff from happening, but hopefully you can limit damage. Also we are bombarded by this stuff when it happens, but the odds of being involved in something like this are still extremely small.
  6. I can see decent hotel chains implementing a bag scanning system. That doesn't seems too crazy.
  7. If we didn't push through any gun control after Sandy Hook, when small children were gunned down with a legal weapon, I don't see how we push anything through for this. In that I can see where KP is coming from.
  8. Airports are pretty different after 9/11, schools have implemented changes since Columbine. I'd guess clubs have changed as well since Orlando. There is obviously a limit, and as a lone gunman it is nearly impossible to really stop when it comes down to it. I'm not sure what kind of response KP is looking for though.
  9. Would KP's post qualify him as an Edgelord? I'm not really hip on these internet labels.
  10. no its not, there are tons of buildings overlooking a large concert venue, what is so special about hotels in that regard? You can purchase a hotel room and carry up a number of heavy bags to said room. What other buildings allow you to do that? Also I am not sure how many tall buildings look down on open concert venues, I would not guess there are that many. In Vegas literally every tall building is a hotel.
  11. Because it happened in a hotel overlooking a large concert venue? That seems like a dumb question.
  12. I think we are getting caught up in the details of the gun, when that seems a bit like a dead end. Whether it was illegal or not, modified, etc. is going to mean very little because you will have one side crying out for gun control and the other (NRA) side shutting down any notion of that sort. It will get us nowhere, and I see it as pointless. Besides, is it really any better if he has to fire slower? The guy was in an elevated position and there was no simple way to get to him. I'm more interested in what hotels will be changing and how will large concert venues handle security differently. Bag checks? Cameras in the rooms? Metal detectors?
  13. Oddly enough, Vegas has been making a huge push to set up cement barriers to protect pedestrians from vehicles.
  14. Regardless of the weapon, this is going to fundamentally change the way we check in to hotels. Other than that I'm pretty much at a loss. Are we going to have snipers set up at all major events from now on?
  15. Vegas.
  16. Hard to disagree with the tacky comment. Gaudy isn't a positive quality. It also just looks outdated.
  17. Why not just get an emulator, they're free and you have access to games that were Japan exclusive that have been fan translated. Because it is nowhere near as cool.
  18. Seems like an understatement.
  19. Nothing like explaining away the humor of a fun joke.
  20. Geez, it's like the White House exists in a vacuum and has no idea what type of tone should be taken at any time. That Puerto Rico stuff is just brutal.
  21. Sure, but it seems pretty bizarre to punish the dad.
  22. Ubisoft did the crowdfunding deal with Might & Magic X, I believe.
  23. I think you are just falling for clickbait journalism. I teach in liberal California and you can wear a cross, we have a Christian club on campus, and we do the pledge every day. But really all this stuff varies from school to school, district to district, and state to state. The great war on Christianity and Country is vastly overstated.
  24. Yeah, we do the pledge every day and you can wear an American flag shirt whenever you want. All of those examples are weird exceptions to the norm. Most of them are better examples of bungling administrations than any war on the American flag. That Infowars story is the best. I live next to that school. It's fake news at its finest.
  25. Thinking on it a bit longer, there is nothing wrong with seeing this protest as an insult to the flag and what it stands for. I've heard a lot of veterans voice their concerns that they fought for that symbol. I would never tell a Veteran that they are wrong to hold that opinion. That being said, I would also never tell a black person that they are wrong for protesting against racial inequalities. I've seen a lot of white people trying to explain that this is the wrong way to do it. They want these athletes fired or they want the NFL to make them stand. They want race and politics out of their sports. The President has joined in on that chorus. That sounds crazy to me. You are only strengthening the point these athletes have been making. The answer to a protest about oppression is not to oppress.
