The TV and Streaming Thread: US Writers/Actors Strike Edition
Hurlshort replied to Raithe's topic in Way Off-Topic
Rogue One was the best of the new SW movies, so I don't think it was a huge shock that the spin off series from that movie turned out good. They really are the only ones that use Star Wars as a sandbox to tell a good story, instead of trying to capture a reminiscent moment from the original trilogy. -

Huh. I should probably watch Ahsoka at some point. But I also think I was supposed to watch Clone Wars or Rebels or The Bad Batch to know what is going on, and that seems like a lot of TV time that I don't really have. I also stalled out on the MCU trying to watch that Nick Fury series. That was really slow. -

One of my favorite books, and it looks like a pretty great adaptation of it. -
For Midnight Suns? I thought it was better than I expected. It's not really a question of winning the fight, but rather how you can maximize the environment and the hero abilities best. I'd rate it above average. It also rarely dragged out, so at least it knew enough to not overstay its welcome.

Invincible is pretty good, and relatively short. I think I need to finish up the last season of Expanse, but I'm kind of lost on the story and don't want to restart it. -

Starfield - There are some quality of life fixes from when I played at release, and I set it so that I can carry everything. It is going well and I'm enjoying exploring the universe. I am still figuring out how to make a decent settlement, but I am better at ship design now. -

It must have done well enough to warrant 3 movies, so I don't think you are alone. It's a pretty fun dynamic and doesn't take itself too seriously, so I've enjoyed them. -
Would be cool if the Republican Party leadership wasn't completely inept and they decided to push him off the ballot. It seems weird because they would win the presidency with a different candidate, but I guess they are worried about losing their own seats. Crazy time.

Youtube recommendations, let's beat the algorithm
Hurlshort replied to Sarex's topic in Way Off-Topic
I watched it without sound on reddit originally, and that was what really sold me. If he manages to get a studio backing, then obviously that would be a a big win and the sound would be handled by someone else. Although I thought the narrator was a good campy choice for the clip. Reminded me of the snake for The Jungle Book for some reason. Or maybe Skeletor: -

Pretty excited if this becomes a thing. Like and subscribe, this guy needs numbers as he negotiates with studios. -

Same here. I recognize a few, but they don't look interesting to me. -

Is he that big of a deal though? I mean, he's got a pretty small catalogue. He's not Guillermo Del Toro. I say that because I've gotten the two confused before. He's got like 5 movies in his library, and Sicario is the only one that I think I can give full credit to the director for. Blade Runner and Dune were both established worlds. Sure, he brought the visuals of those to fruition, but it wasn't exactly a creative vision. I'm pretty sure he watched Arrival, but all I remember thinking was Jodi Foster did this movie better already. Screw you on James Cameron though. I love his stuff. -

Y'all convinced me to load up Darkest Dungeon as well. I just beat the Sonorous Prophet. I have like 18 poor souls on my roster, but only a couple are good for anything. My arbalest was pretty useful in that boss battle. -
Can we have a proper hockey thread now?

That's weird. I just played through it a couple months ago and it ran pretty well. Do you have any mods that might be causing an issue? -

Heh, kind of an interesting theory to think that if Obsidian struggles to make it with their own IP's, they will just end up churning out Fallout side games. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'd feel bad for Obsidian, but I would love to have more of their Fallouts too. Problem is they would probably lose their writing talent that separates them from the chuff. Tim Cain already seems to be semi-retired as he develops his youtube following. -

This is probably wishful thinking, but Microsoft probably bought Bethesda for the Bethesda, not necessarily all of the other developer's Bethesda owned. They wanted the big IP's that Bethesda has. Obsidian and inXile are separate deals. It looks a lot worse if they go in and shutter them. But yeah, if Avowed or Outer Worlds 2 doesn't hit sales expectations, it could be very bad. So make sure to buy a copy and leave it running all day long to help them out. -

I don't think she ever stopped acting. She had that Mother movie last year that was decent. That being said, this looks terrible, but it also looks like she probably got paid well to get bounced around in a box for awhile. Wait, she did that one before...is this a sequel to The Cell? Ah well, they can't all be Hustlers. -

Finished Fallout as well. It was fantastic. Fun for the whole family. -

I'm playing Fallout 4, but my son has been playing FO:NV, and I find that I am jealous of all the cool story stuff he is getting to experience while I deal with Piper and the Minutemen. -

I enjoyed the Starfield lore. It was rough, but I saw some good potential for storytelling. I played Arena and Daggerfall when they came out, and it's not like they were well developed either. It was very generic fantasy from the beginning. Further titles helped focus it (Morrowind, Redguard, and Skyrim being some high points.) Starfield is pretty generic space fantasy too, but I'd like to see them continue to develop it. Ship building also has the potential to be way cooler. There aren't a lot of games that really give you that freedom while also delivering a decent narrative experience. Anyways, I see Starfield as a good first step, but they still have work to do to make it an epic IP. -

As I said, I am just going to build up Sanctuary and wander around. No need to enter the ballpark. Maybe I'll go in once to get Valentine. -

I don't know about 3 minutes, but right now I'm just exploring the map, so it's rare that I have to transition to a new place. It does take awhile when I do transition, but it's probably about 20 seconds.
