This can be said about many post in this thread. It looks like they were written by Russian teenagers who never seen the world outside of the scope of their national propaganda tv.

Trolls (no not trolling :P) in PE
Mor replied to Ulquiorra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You can google image a lot of great trolls, but most of them are hardly a good candidates for troll model for PE that would be seen from isometric perspective. The key is to make them distinctive, but I suspect that there are several limitations concerning their skeletal structure and movement. -
Update 68 Camp-out thread
Mor replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
*Sighs* so next week.. But then they will have to make another update for next week and I suspect that writing those updates are not the most fun chore -
Stamina Regeneration
Mor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I think that Stamina is intended to balance combat as a "cooldown" mechanic, so that you can't spam your strongest abilities, think when to use what(similarly to wizards spells) and when to pull out. While Health suppose to be the resting related modifier, it been noted that in PE world medicine is not very evolved, so no endless health potions/spells, making resting more important if you want to survive. what is rest scumming? -
Stamina Regeneration
Mor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I doubt it will work, because they are likely balancing the whole combat(abilities, encounters etc) around it. Even if you'd be able to do it(increasing penalty to regeneration?) personally, I am not a fan, to me it's like simulating people need to pee during a road trip. Sure it is more realistic, but also more annoying and not the "hardcore" experience I am looking for. -
I don't about the rest, but I don't care about DA:O specific implementation(or any other for that mater). I like added replay value and how it effects the plot, I just prefer that major questlines don't be tied up with "class" restrictions.

Stamina Regeneration
Mor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
@Osvir, I don't know about the specific, but my interpretation in the previous post was based on this: Vitality: Characters lose it quickly and regain it relatively rapidly. Abilities and spells are able to help replenish or regenerate Stamina. fighters continuously regenerate Stamina during combat, but after combat, Stamina regenerates for everyone very rapidly. Take note of the last point in particular, IMO it contradicts some of your ideas. -
That is not a story choke point, that is the setting for start of our game, thank you for spoiling it for me As for rest, I agree about DA:O approach. iirc in BG2 your alignment/class determined which temple/stronghold you'll join, I liked the first, but I hated the second. What I am trying to say is that I want our "origin"(character selection) to matter, I spent hours on character creation and I love to see those little details come to play in various dialogues or quest. But I prefer that anything more significant than that would be tied out to what we do in game, instead of our "past".
-
It's my understanding that Dragon age:Origins "Origins" are just gimmicky name for adding a quest line that is based on your choices during character creation. Nothing unique or elaborate about that mechanic, you had couple of those in BG2 and in most RPGs, only it was about your "origin".(How they achieved it its a matter for another discussion) Btw is it fair to say that DA:O railroaded you into the Grey Warden story? how much diffrent it was from you being "Reailroaded" into spellhold encounter in BG2? in fact i'd argue that every plot have some choke points.
-
I guess we have different definitions of "origin". The way I see it, extended background doesn't mean you are going to get huge exposition dumps before you can start playing. It's just the writers way to reinforce the narrative(e.g. In BG2 your shared background with your BG1 companions). For me this basically the game story/setting, while your "Origin" is a way to make that experience more personal based on your choice during character creation. This can be as simple as your race\ethnicity have bearing on how you will be treated in various parts of the world.(I think it adds a lot to immersion and help shape unique characters personalities better, when they react to such things) or it can go as far as providing unique quests lines tailored for your "Origin"(Race, ethnicity, class whatever else we can choose). As for your experience with DA:O, maybe it was just over hyped or poorly implemented, but to me more options that expand on our choices and add to your replayability value is always good, even if some of them are better than others.

Stamina Regeneration
Mor replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
So far they only touched on the Stamina and Health(vitality) in terms of how damage is soaked. The way I understand it: Health is how much damage your character can take, which can only be regained by resting or healing(not common). While Stamina is how much you can endure or for the purpose of battles how fatigued or winded you are, which is easily regained, you just need to take a breather. I like the idea of stamina/damage it makes more sense then rolls based on static stats, allowing a party to work together to tire down a single stronger target. I also suspect that many of your abilities will drain your stamina, which makes sense since smashing and bashing evil is very tiring exercise. -
Death and Resting
Mor replied to jmanreis's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
For some classes that use soul magic/abilities like Monks and Ciphers, staying on the sidelines will weaken them severely. As for Wizards... I don't know but those grimoire look mighty heavy Personally, I think that the Stamina/Health system is very well thought out(at least on paper) -
You are still at it... I don't know about her arguments, but as far as I seen your arguments have been nothing but pointless repetition of your position, which is misrepresentation of couple notes about obfuscationand based on what you want expert mode to be as opposed to looking at each rule and see if it makes sense for this system. If you don't like expert mode that make sense, you can just play without Expert Mode ticked and select the options that you like.

There isn't much they can do with your history, but where you came from can play on prejudices that are ingrained in many local cultures.e.g. Playing as Aedyry explorer will not make your popular in Eir Glanfath etc. How about a slave on Vailian naval vessel, who was abducted from *insert ethnicity*, who start the plot in drywood as no one.(similar to morrowind)
-
I want to say "yes", the player origin(i.e Ethnicity, Race, Class etc) should play an integral part in the plot, not just some stat bonus for combat, after all such intricacies is what cRPG fans love, as it will make the story more "personal". However, as with all thing its all about balance, too much and it become blend and repetitive copy paste reactions(espcily with 11 races, and many subraces). Even in games where your past plays an important role with over reaching consequences, you don't want t be bludgeoned by it at every conversation. In eternity, we already seen several examples of dialogues being designed to account to specific skills(our leveling choices), and the reputation/disposition systems as well as other quest specific "tickets" will track the consequences of our action. Overall the devs have a huge verity of tools to make unique quest, that fits the situations/NPC quirks etc. So to me it is about how meaningful such things as our origin will play out, not how many times.

This sound like a mini game, and a very repetitive one if each time it only last for an in-game day or two. Also if you want an oblivion like tutorial mission for choosing your soul animal, will Druids get one for their transformation animal of choice, mages for their choice of their spellschools etc? It is my understanding that the reason for the shared stamina/health is so that you don't use your pet as a drone to soak up the damage. IMO it will also makes pets your Achilles heel, so your idea to share only Stamina makes more sense to me. (but then again we still don't know all the details on how it works).

There is a Russian saying about not showing half a work, which fits well here. As you have seen in the waterfall and chamber locations, and you can see here: There are more much more varied and unique environments than what we seen, obviously they are through various stages of development and you can't expect them to rush development, obsessing over final touches before work over content is done, just for your peephole pleasure... As for constructive criticism such as what Mazhlekov did, I think that most will agree it's most welcome.

I can bet you it won't catch on. It's a huched humanoid with horns. If you squint your eyes you could actually mistake them for humans. The concept on paper the artist drew might looks super awesome but the 3d siluet show here looks indistinctive. There are more interesting interpretations of trolls out there. I think they look fine, but after reading your post, I agree that they are not very distinctive. EDIT: @Mazhlekov, I am not certain that those screens represent final works, but you made great points and touch ups.

@JFSOCC, that sound interesting, but very familiar to the way NWN familiars worked. If rangers and their animal companions share a common pool of Stamina and Health. It would mean that companions are the ranger Achilles' heel. Why target the ranger when you have such a soft target instead? If so I hope they have some "lay low" AI for them.
-
Usually with time animal companions become irrelevant or too vulnerable to use, at least the kind I would imagine that would follow a ranger. So I am also intrigued to learn what they came up with(synergistic benefits from working together) As for my preferred fearsome battle beast, what about this one.
-
There will definitely be some larger structures. You are just seeing a small portion of one area. It isn't really Machu Picchu or Viking... it is closer to Machu Picchu with Viking layered on top. Something like Kuldahar in IWD?

World Map Travel
Mor replied to Shadowless's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Following up on that. According to the latest update the second big city is Twin Elms. So i guess it is confirmed that the second screenshot is more or less where Pillar of eternity take place(Twin Elms is on the shore of the lake at the bottom right corner) and what type of map they are going for in PE. While the world map is for the purpose of setting up the lore and all the players(I still don't understand where the damn Aedyr Empire located ), so lot of space for future titles.
