  1. I think the argument that Russia being a world superpower is a mute one i.e. a nuclear power, top 3 military power, top 10 GDP, holder of permanent UN security seat and major player in geopolitics.. but IMO the making of real power is the ability to maintain it(case and point soviet union) and while I don't doubt your military doctrine plays a role in it, my money is one more direct factors such as investment in education, infrastructure, research and factors such as life expectancy (which reflect a wide range of factors).
  2. How about UN human development index, it covers a broad range of subjects without touchng on more subjective topic such as politics or who got a bigger military pen** Which discussion at hand? My replay which providing some background about quality of life in Russia and conditions in its military in response to a post that spoke about that(because just like people who never been to USA, think that USA is all urban skyscrapers like NY with people with a single TV show accent, people have no idea about Russiam which is bigger and nothing like Moscow) , or your apologist rant, not liking how what I said reflect on Russia and trying to prove some crap about Russia being a major world power and hubris :/
  3. I understand well how folks such as yourself often misuse terminology and refuse to acknowledge the reality when it's pointed out to you. You are a fool if you think Russia is a 'backwater country'. It is still very much a major world power, given it's leadership probably moreso than anyone but the U.S. at this point, with China rising to be near on par. Also, you just demonstrated my observation of hubris amongst some of those in the First World when they discuss what they think is the Third World. Agiel's post is a bunch of male cow diarrhea. You lace it with enough MSG to make it palatable to you? It's got some half truths to be sure, but it's not too relevant. Furthermore, near half of what he accuses Russia of one could say is true of the nation I live in these days as well as most of the nations in the EU. I don't care about your little rebellion phase from the EU. I was burn in Russia my father served and was wounded in Russian army and before that we fought in ww2 for soviet Russia, so I have a little more perspective about Russia then you do. So chill with your male cow diarrhea rant in defense of the underdog fighting strawmen argument. If you are not familiar with term 'third world countries' used in the sense of developing world countries then I suggest you start reading the economic section once in a while, and if you have issue with grasping reality of Russia being ranked as developing country almost in every aspect(despite being an influential player in world arena) then you might want to do some research instead of making ignorant claims.
  4. Btw: Btw, by display only I assume you mean something like this old passive VGA switch: While the more expensive types are active switches(comes with power supply) which create feedback on all ports to avoid the annoying waiting period when you switch.
  5. I don't think many used KVMs, ever. I honestly can't think of why would I need to use a two PC setup permanently at home. KVMs are best suited for server rooms, technicians labs or other environment where two separate computers are necessary or mandated( e.g. work, presentation rooms or army), but now you can usually run a virtual desktop or get fancy with extending your work into two screens. :/
  6. I agree, Ukraine have been playing the blame game for quite(Russia, EU and now Yanukovich). The monetary crisis didn't just happen, it has been brewing for years, but they were afraid to take action because IMF demanded reforms which would be extremely unpopular in the short term, Yanukovich tried to pit EU against Russia to secure larger loan but I don't see how it would solve anything other than more short term life line and burned their reserves. So they need to take responsibility and make the hard choices (and IMHO transparency for the government elite would help a lot) Lets just hope it not going to get the abusive "father figure"..
  7. No, you don't understand that in post cold war the term 'third world' countries has been used interchangeably with developing world (unlike first\second world). More importantly it seems that the comparison which was the subject matter of that post was lost on you. Whatever terminology you may choose third world, undeveloped, developing etc, for a former world power Russia is generally ranked like backwater country. (i.e. the reference to Agiel post
  8. What a ****-ish response. When A co-worker hospitalized for a week, at the very least you should inquire about his\her health, its basic social skills 101. Her being evasive is a cue to mind your own business. She doesn't want to talk about it. Normal social by the office water cooler type discussions (See above about her family or did she have a good weekend)? Yes, she doesn't mind. Personal health related stuff? No. I don't see the harm in inquiring about health related stuff, but I agree with the rest there is difference between caring and prying i.e. know your boundaries and don't push, certainly don't gosip about it will help no one other than satisfy your own curiosity.
  9. Well Russia is generally ranked as third world country, which is likely why Putin made a priority to nationalized media, and I read that they have directives to broadcast at least 50% of reports must be "positive" after all if you are an oblivious fly a big pile of warm steaming **** looks sweet.. That is exactly why the circumstance of the vote were illegal, people got no debate what the ramifications of their vote, iirc opposition members were escorted from the hall, and Russia propaganda was a huge ad campaign for Russian forward base Crimea. As for what culture shock it may incur, I don't know since the majority of Crimea were Russian speakers who watched Russia news as their primary outlet.. besides people don't tend to admit mistakes, and conscription might help unemployment in the short term so who knows, will have to wait and see.
  10. Demand to see this. Need . . .To . . . Know . . . More. as far as I can tell those are the only two new tidbits in the interviews.
  11. What is funny is the suggestion that Russia cut prices because of your so called "anti-Russian" coalition, as opposed to people in said coalition being there because of Russian actions or rather soviet corrupt practices in their own country. There is a reason why all post soviet countries are moving away from Russia, who is left with its nominal friends North Korea and Iran... I agree on the free market bit, but even us "filthy capitalist" have a distinction between a bank and a loan shark, or in our case i'd go as far as drug dealer because its what you throw your money at that counts and as i understand that those subsidies thralled Ukraine economy (and "punitive" actions were not limited to gas) Also despite Putin cult megalomaniacs opinion of the "west", before Russia started to intervene in Ukraine, I never thought or cared about Russia or for that mater considered that EU should help Ukraine, who for a long time has avoided making unpopular tough reforms, I am tired of "Greece" a likes. EDIT: The things I hate the most in our political arena is political who grab support by rant about everything that is wrongs with the world, I think its a model that work well for comedians, but to me unless a politician has a better option he should stfu. Speaking of which, what measure do you suggest that Ukraince should take to get out of its economical grave?
  12. That because it is already post intervention, long before the popular demonstrations against the regime has escalated into a sectarian civil war, Iran has been supporting Syria with money\equipment\specialist and experience from their own then recent squashed domestication -- granted the strategy was the only way for Assad to stay in power i.e. solidify alawite support behind him through fear mongering, but it also back fired when they were unable to stump the demonstrations and found themselves fighting a war against a large Sunni majority in a Sunni majoirty region. Although the later appearance of ISIS radical helped Assad a lot -- the reason why the west has remained on the sidelines for so long, while iran and Russia freely supported Syria from the start, was lack of cohesion among rebels groups and radical elements -- while ISIS fanatics initially won some battle on the ground they caused more harm to rebel case by association with radical Islamist, reduced material support from the west and broke the ranks. But this whole thing can still go wrong in so many ways for Russia, who has a couple of dozen millions of Sunni muslims among its rank including in the volatile region of Caucasus. But then again, quick glance of the recent post make me think that the main point of this direction was to deflect\excuse Russian action, but it's to early for me to dive into that and there is a new update to read.
  13. Damn i did noticed it is an Oby threads, it should come with a warning .. Edit: got one:
  14. posted by mistake, please delete.
  15. To solidify as connecting all the dots in Putins recent imperialist interventions "peace keeping" campaign in the Black Sea region, starting with Moldova break away region, then Georgia and decimating its fleet, now Ukraine\Crimea and its fleet, and all that is left is to connect Crimea to the mainland through Eastren Ukraine and to PMR through south Ukraine.. EDIT: Here this article explains the connection better: Btw are you sure that Moldova is the agitator here, and what do you think that more troops will achieve? would that solve your issues with Moldova, fix the economy(which is in Shambles because like in East-Ukraine it reliant on large soviet area industrial complexes), make you more self-sufficient i.e. anything but being Putins recent trophy. I understand that the idea of soviet empire is alluring to the "rednecks" among you but for some reason I keep seeing an image of Republican crowds, hyped by Obama Change slogan :/
  16. Looks like the timeline has been updated since the first page. Also on that Map bit and info provided on the first page. Any speculations as to where the Penitential Regency of Readceras is located? It said it is to the north of The Free Palatinate of Dyrwood, which in turn occupy the north westren wooded area and they likely have a common border. I don't know if Readceras is located to the north of godhammer citadel or covering area south of it, but I would love to know if Echo bay is part of Readceras, Dyrwood or still Adyrian duchy? for that matter is new Homear is part of Dyrwood or ? Also out of all the prominent cultures and location features in the updates, Ixamitl is the only (except Readceras) that we can't place. Personally, I imagine that it is located far far to the north, but is there any chance that I am wrong and its the unmarked expanse of water on the top right corner of the map?
  17. It can work, you can decrease attack speed to illustrate that its harder to maintain control over it, and same for its speed and other ability that makes it useful for the ranger to avoid direct contact, because their soul bond or whatever is weaker ..
  18. and the second largest army in NATO, which is part of the Nuclear sharing program... So either Putin testing NATO resolve as you suggest or he readies himself to cries havoc! and let slip the dogs of war on Azerbaidjan. Which has several unique points of interest to Putin: 1. Like Georgia it hasn't joined the Russia led 'Eurasian Economic Union'. 2. Like Georgia it withdrew from Russia led 'Collective Security Treaty Organization' 3. Like Georgia it maintains a oil\gas pipeline connecting Turkey\Europe to Asia, circumventing Russia energy monopoly... on which Russia economy is very much dependent. The problem with such approach, if anything you do will backfire then the only thing you can do is sit wait for the inevitable war.. Although I agree in part, and on that note: Why Vladimir Putin needs a poor, aggressive Russia "If you can’t improve people’s living standards, you can try to give them a sense of belonging to a great power" -- A nice article that covers how Putin rose to power, how he maintenance it, his strategy and why all the kids from Russia has this rhetoric of living in a besieged fortress by the west (which IMO was what meant by Markel comment about Putin being out of touch with reality, presumably she and Obama realized that no amount of resets will solve this) Also Putin the rock critic:
  19. I don't know why the cynicism. I think that most posters were aware that no one will go to war over Ukraine, certainly not in today post recession economy, dependency on Russian energy monopoly and geopolitical issues in which Russian cooperation is needed. Doubtless its why Russia felt they can get away with this again, and why no one here suggested direct action, and while there were some talk about sanctions on top of personal issues, there was a concern that such action would push Russians further into the nationalistic trap that Putin has been perpetuating. So while the biggest battle was over apathy and awareness, i still wouldn't dismiss sanctions and other measures. Starting with the biggest multi billion new Russian energy projects that are still stuck at EU legislation, to smaller much needed cooperation for Russian economy if it wish to evolve past crude energy exports, to indirect action such exposing Tzar Putin dirty laundry, because there is nothing that poor people like more than a politician that stuff his pockets with money..
  20. I assumed that the Vaillian Republics would follow the Italian city-states examples using contracted mercenary companies, but from what we know so far the Vaillians are united, they are situated in a defended enclave with no apparent threats from the north, so unless they have major enemies to the south east, I think that they primary focus is would be a fleet to defend their trade routes. It was confirmed that during that war the army was mostly peasant one. As for the bomb, it was made by priest of Magran, who commonly employ firearms, I assumed that it was just a very well placed s***load of explosives.
  21. The closest we have is Durgan's Battery, it's not the Mithral Halls, but it is home of the fabled Durgan steel, which making was lost. So far we only seen boreal dwarfs, no info on the mountain or other variety. So it quite possible that we will see a subrace of such whacky dwarfs, which are iconic to the genre, IMO the devs wouldn't strip them, no more then they would magic missiles or fireballs.. Though I would really love a little clarification on Dwarfs which atm seem like small Human that isn't quite an Orlan :/
  22. I still think that either Oby is paid troll or re-posting his stuff from some right wing Russian blog. As for that video, titled ~execution of christian, I don't know what he think it proves. I suppose he is banking on the Sectarian divide in the conflict, and our aversion for radical elements it drew from the east such as Al Qaeda. Neglecting that the whole sectarian struggle was forced and used as strategy by Syria\Iran, an effort\conflict that Russian has been fueling with its arms\money\support, so in this regard their support back fired.
  23. Soo going with that logic if a country like Austria had bigger economic issues, they would prefer to throw away their sovereignty in favor of Germany who has 4+ times its GDP? or maybe you refer to GDP per capita then Poland and Finland out rank Russia by far, I don't know about Russian regions joining Finland over its economical issues but the idea is ho ho ho for china, I recall more then one complain about them swarming over the border. Which is exactly why I said that many Russian (especially those who don't watch Russian media or has access to Russian non state media broadcasting outside of Russia and thus avoid the patriotic goggles instituted by law) remember that leaders like Putin is eventually why Russian can't have good things. Also if you like the Krushchevs here is an article for you , I agree 100% with what it says about Brezhnev era expansionism and what it led to. You are welcome to research the Ukrainian forces in Crimea demographics (especially among the fleet personnel, which was Crimea), group dynamics and what not to substantiate your expectations, but as far as I am concerned those two different situations, i'd do the same in Crimea and most certainly not do it in Ukraine.
  24. They changed the Url. This above still works, but this one is better: http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/
  25. I don't know about that. First I wouldn't use the term defect\desert, which is strong word for something that IMO most would do in such circumstance in which region de-facto joined another country, and will not leave their family\life behind, regardless of how rigged the game was. Second, I think you misjudge Ethnic Russian sentiments, when we dispense with hot headed rhetoric, many believe that Putin is the reason why Russia can't have good things and would never want to be back under Russia thumb. Third if bullets will start to fly, I have no doubt that Russia will crush Ukraine, but at the same time their support will be grinned to dust. But most of all IMO there will be no invasion now, that this was another farse used to leverage a political compromise and solidify Russian gain in Crimea. (Also that not to say that Russia is going to continue to pursue this by other means or later time, until it solidify its hold up to Transnistria).
