@Orogun01, From the other thread something similar. In short the consensus was awlays that no direct action will be taken over this, the idea is to make sure that Russia don't get away with anything else igniting old animosities so that Tzat Putin can sit in his throne for another 8 years on top of his already ~15.

Not really, we have modern wars thread, the usual rant thread about the guy in power who we love to hate thread(USA), while this was always about Ukraine crisis or rather the Russian involvement in it. Because lets be honest, if Russia haven't meddled in Ukraine escalating the situation for an easy real estate grab, no one would given this local protest against corruption\policy much thought(e.g. across the black sea Turkey protest against Erdogan) and if this wasn't just the most recent pretext used by Russia for a regional power grab no one would have been as alarmed..

Okay I'm impressed you are acknowledging the Russians are using propaganda, this is a huge and progressive step Please He has been doing this from the start, addressing our misgivings of Russia actions by "acknowledgment" always shortly followed by the "but, the west isn't any better".. deflecting any criticism of Russia and its actions or any effects by arguing against anything "west" related (the "look who is talking" routine). You can easily observe how thin are the argument of the oby bunch, that is until they get to argue against the west or on some tangibly related argument that doesn't really matter. Its like arguing with rednecks, it doesn't matter what USA will do as long as it whooping ass they are happy, same here only with Russia and its perceived enemies with USA on top.

It is part of previous argument concerning obfuscation, either for 'expert mode' (i.e. 'look ma no hands' mode for people who played the game so much that they know exactly how their playthrough will go) or for increased "RP" value over metagame matters ( i.e. a sandbox-ish style meant to play on easy, so that you can play out with your dream team regardless of "metagame" concerns) or worse just a farce for people to overcome the lure of the metagame?!(as if those people wont alt+tab and google walkthrough\guide\wiki) It is all nice and well, but for the vast majority those numbers are an important feedback and part of staying in control especially during big fights when all hell breaks loose, and contributing factor to sense of progression.(Mind you, it doesn't have to be numbers any alternative way of feedback will work, personally I would prefer later). So while the idea of more options to satisfy everyone's idiosyncrasyties always get a round of applause, i'd prefer to hear more on what the dev's did with current obfuscation which so far seems like they just disabled a lot of objects before we go disabling any other ways of feedback. -
"United States' claims at being a democracy seriously threatened"
Mor replied to JadedWolf's topic in Way Off-Topic
Couple of things: Are you implying that the average guy from Europe is more knowledgeable about the world around him then the ones in US? or that EU members aren't effected by decisions that effect their economy? otherwise if your point was about US foreign policy, being tied to its major military exports please spell it out for me. It takes even less effort to dismiss an argument you don't like. Wikipedia is an exceptable for establishing a baseline when discussing definition of well known terms, especially when someone asserts what people are taught, what is the truth and what people can get away with. Maybe instead of generic explanation that has nothing todo with provided entry you'll try to argue for your definition based on its merits or better maybe just phrase it better. Also any reason why you keep refering to yourself in a 3d person? -

Also playing is about being in control i.e. why many don't like games overloaded with cutscenese(feeling that they are passive backsit players), why jekry nwn2 camera received so much criticism(it was excruciating to get sense of the situation) or why many choose turnbase, less party members or protagonist with direct control. Which is why I don't get all that hiding the numbers kind of crap. Most of the info would be crucial for the continues enjoyment of the vast majoirty of players. (Unless it will be supplemented by some other means of feedback, of which I haven't seen any indication). -
I like the idea, even though after playing 'Dawn of War II', I have hard time to imagine how Ja-styled game can top that :/ In either case you are little late to the party, Slitherine already working on that. They made Panzer corps 2 a good ww2 game, but I am not sure if something like that would work for me with wh40 . I thought Slitherine's game was more a TB strategy game in the style of Rites of War? I am not familiar with 'Rites of War' (though it doesn't look like something I'll be playing) but their initial screenshot: Reminded me of their recent-ish 'Panzer corps 2' title (gameplay vid), which is something I enjoyed playing. I'm still playing Ja2 title from time to time(v13+mods), I love the tactical combat(despite its shortcomings especially in late game) the strategic, exploration and twinkle of rpg-ish element, never the less at this point I'd prefer Wh40k with RTS 'Dawn of War II' like gameplay hands down.

Common pitfalls of CRPG games to avoid
Mor replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It is always a balancing act. If you offer less defined Good\Neutral\Evil options in dialogue(i.e. paths with varied outcome that effect your gameplay), people might whine that their path choices wasn't meaningful, that they were railroaded into a certain path unable to RP an Good\Neutral\Evil character because lack of options. As for PE, I believe that the disposition system in game which suppose to be for readers, will cause the devs to be more creative with their dialogue, thus addressing your concern. Familiarity isn't necessarily a bad thing especially in game that suppose to bring warm fussy feelings of nostalgia inside. I think its good when in a game certain items/skills/specializations/characters make things much easier, otherwise what the point in your party and character progression choices if anything you'll pick will be always as viable, if so give me random button to spice things a bit. Still in this case it might have been a poor design choice if you haven't been given the information to make the right choice in the first place. Btw, I liked the way the witcher handled monster fights, you had a codex detailing each monster weakness, though you start with an empty codex the way you commonly gain knowledge of new monsters is by defeating it, but for some more rare cases you could gain knowledge from books or questioning people. -

Do we know how Ciphers gain their Focus? Is it constantly regenerating through "contact" or only regenerated through 'soul whip' or ?? Edit: also is this a crop from an existing screenshot that I can't put my finger on, or something new? -
Overland travel map question
Mor replied to Lord_Darkmoon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sorry, I don't see it. It works well for huge strategic maps where those are small elements which blends in, but I really like to see an example of those 3D effects on a world map(not your example) where it doesn't overwhelm and subtract from the purpose of that map. imo a better idea would be to animate the locations i.e. on hovering over a location "icon", you'll see it and maybe the area around it become alive (like a gif with few stylized frames) So hovering over defiance bay will show couple of wave lines, a ship moving into harbor and smoke rising from the city proper. Dyrford icon will have the water wheel turning with minor reflections in the river, tween elem will have a flock of birds rise from it or its canopy rustle in the wind. It wont be your 3d effects, but IMO it will be far more notable ins style and without overwhelming the map. -

Off course it is meant as an eye pleasing abstraction, but we still need to be mindful of scale, which iswhy I posted examples for both world and city scale maps. Furthermore, for reference here is what we have: Now, what exactly you guys suggest that can be added and at what level... -
Overland travel map question
Mor replied to Lord_Darkmoon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have no problem with enhancing the world map with various effects, however, I do question of the need for a purely eye candy "extra zoom level map" and would like to note our world map is similar in scale to ~sixth of the Spainish Peninsular, so we need a better examples than what we have now where you can see individual trees... -
Yes, Russia wants what is arguably it's most important geographic neighbor to remain unstable and plunge into civil war. They also want World War 3 as fast as possible. They are doing everything in their power to escalate the situation. Putin is a card carrying demon from the 7th level of hell. Everything he and Russia does is pure evil. It is clear to me now. The end times are nigh! You, BruceVC, Tagaziel, et al have shown me the light! I am not at fault that you ignore or ignorant of Russian interests, threats and recent actions in the region, and Ukraine in particular. Your argument is what many argued before Russia intervention and subsequent annexation of Crimea. While I doubted that Russia will try to annex Easten Ukraine at this point(although I doubt they will go as far in Crimea) their economic and geopolitical interest in submissive satellite state Ukraine(like Belarus) hasn't changed and the best leverage they have is the upcoming election and Russian speaking populace --which consume the Putin daily media enjoying a pre election healthy doze of propaganda on a non stop loop. Of course that short term instability in Eastern Ukraine works for Russia, just like their yet again timed economic pressure, because what wins election in such situation is the promise of personal and economical security; and while personally, I haven't heard any of the nazi crap (I suppose Putin figured out that the comparison into which his actions fits like a glove is counter productive) everything else is tuned onto the same message from before built on blown out of proportion and even manufactured events (the illegitimate, radical government; up to get the Russian speakers; Can't maintain law and order; economical issues etc) @Hassat Hunter, funny when initially saw your post I was certain that the only answer discussion you want to hear is someone saying they support the one and not the other so you can scream bias.. nevertheless I made a normal post because I didn't recall any posting history among us to put you into the oby group. What exactly you are suggesting that the authorities should have done, when there is already an election on their way which would give voice to the populace at large? What are the goals of those pro-russian protesters? Because so far left unchecked took over government and police buildings, so how in anyway they are different from the Hooligans who were drawn to the violence that ensued when the government to break the Euromaiden protest and against who the oby group has been ranting from the start? The current interm-government came after Ukraine house of representatives from across the political map realized that the situation got out of control, providing a democratic means to address the issues at hand. Also protests imply peaceful protest, just like the months of Euromaiden movement which was rooted in the orange revolution protesting policy and corruption. While here it seems that taking by force is the only and armed gun men is the only creed of the protesters. Please explain... i'd like to hear details on those assertions.. I don't know how you could, in fact on two occasions i'd said it would be silly of you todo so. Thus can you please elaborate on your position in detail (not headlines jumping) That exactly why I have been calling Russia the Opportunistic agitator bully in regard to Ukraine\Crimea(or Georgia), they didn't tried to defuse the situation there, they didn't tried to help anyone but themselves to some Ukrainian real estate. If you think that by now anyone buys Russia horse load of sh** being anything but self interest you are delusional.

Overland travel map question
Mor replied to Lord_Darkmoon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes many strategy games with continues 3d world map employ this trick to zoom out and use another layer for top zoom level(I think i first saw this with civilization), but for our purpose we don't have nether a continues world nor a 3D area maps you can zoom out from, so what you suggest is a pure eye candy extra zoom layer for the world map that would have nothing todo with any of the mechanics\content.. -
The best storytelling...
Mor replied to Sheikh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You'll have to explain what you mean by storytelling, i.e. narration like in the Mask of the Betrayer like Quetzalcoatl suggested or..? Because what 99% of people here are likely to see is storytelling used in the same sentence with Diablo 2 and IWD2, and dismiss your post. -

Overland travel map question
Mor replied to Lord_Darkmoon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's a matter of personal taste, I suppose. Those are nice maps, but they wouldn't work at all well for showing dynamic features... which is the point of 3D overland maps. The point of a 3D map is that you can change perspective or zoom out. That Legends of Eisenwald style map will never happened, its not a 'world map' its game map of a continues world using 3D, if this what you want then the ship has sailed on this with KS pitch, what we have is non continues world with 2d maps using 3d effects. As for a world map(i.e. total war like overland map) here is what I believe is Legends of Eisenwald world map actually looks like(quick Google): which IMO can be far better represented in stylized 2D paint overs with 3D effects like what we already have. The only other thing I can think off is that you want them to create a mini game, a zoom able 3D continues world map.. i.e. spend a lot of time on creating detailed topography for meh benefits.. Edited. -
You are under the wrong impression that Russia has any interest in deescalating the situation, as oppose to acting on their old threats, in pattern that we all seen but wanted to ignore.
-
First you need to answer: where the right to protest ends and the government requirement to enforce order begins. Then you need to characterize the situation with something better than a loaded terminology such as military and the people. I tend to prefer stability and gradual change over violent revolution, so usually I lean to the side of dialogue and the law, but my reaction depends on the situation. In this case the current situation in eastern Ukraine caused by Pro-Russian agitators, shouldn't be compared to Euromaiden protests which included two month of peaceful protest before the escalations, which IMO was caused by government mishandling of the situation ( just as in martial arts and war you need to understand when, how and where to apply force, a mistake that many police force learned the hard way "west" included ) Overall I was against Yanukovych government heavy handed tactics against the protesters, especially the rumored use of Titushkies and the live fire which in my view symbolized the complete loss of control, so I was very happy that the political parties from across the map realized the severity of the situation and united producing a solution to defuse the situation. With that said the protesters by no means were innocent, especially the hooligans that joined the fray near the end (I assume that Russia the self interested agitator bully special mention can go unsaid)

you don't say! I vaguely recall something about this from a while back... So basically in your comparison you gave the same weight to what Russia claim and a group of some 30 countries from North America to Europe with varied political/economical policies diplomacy etc. Tell me how are you usually categorizing someone who claims that everyone around him are wrong and biased.
