speaking of taxes - I just recieved 1000$, since I've apparantly been paying too much. But you do your own taxes over there in the US. Is that for the year to come, or?

Exactly! I understand your argument.. We just disagree on the definition - I agree with you till the point that the battle is by definition unwinnable - I want the player to mature to the point that s/he realizes when something is lost and gives up by free choice instead of being forced to. Will it cause frustration? great - Will it create anger? Even better.. Computer games could be so much more than mere entertainment.
-
Changing the player won't solve this problem. It's a conflict/issue that lies within Windows Explorer.

I don't like the idea of an unwinnable battle - but I most definitely don't support making all battels automatic winnable (like say do X and he'll die). If you are a lvl 1 Paladin and you take on a Dragon, it would require a disproportional amount of planning to even scratch it. So the battle is - in a sense - unbeatable, but the dragon is mortal, so if you were strong enough or planned it well enough, you could kill it/hurt it. Things shouldn't be toned down nor up. Any resonable person wouldn't take on a lion, without considerable weaponry, in real life - but it is possible to kill one with your bare hands even so. I would however love to see consequences to losing a battle and surviving. In an RPG this would probably mean that your enemies became stronger or at least less weakened. It's all too often either win or die (reload). This would also be great in Strategy Games like C&C etc.

Is this really that different than the Muhammad drawings?

I just realized that my sig actually makes alot of sense when put in relation to this thread.. -
The Western world is no more decadent than the rest of the world. I've been all over Europe, in 5 different countries on Africa and covered much of Asia and I see the same things all over - sure some cultural differences mask some faults in human nature, but on a whole every society and every culture is merely a cracked dam which holds the worst of us at bay. It's human nature that's the "problem" here - not a specific culture or idea.

The only way I can stop it from crashing is changing the codec. If I use small icons explorer won't crash when I overview the files, but will still do it when I highlight or play the files. I use VLC as well, but without changing the codec, the problem still remains on my computer.

there's something very perverted about that statement. -
or at least that Neo-imperialism is bad..

Maybe you would like to point out where I have gone wrong instead of making pointless blanket statements. I was merely being an ass, problem with these kinds of discussion is that people get very black/white in their views. You were looking at Capitalism from a very strict theoritical angle and sticking to that (just to make it clear though, I was doing the same). Which is unfruitfull in the long run, Sand was doing the same with Socialism (well his warped angle at least) and as such it merely became a discussion wether black was better than white - when the two are opposite sides of a spectre. Reality is rather gray in this matter, I just wanted the discussion to take that into account. Besides it rather hard to compare unless you look at the similarities and span out from there. The western world is a mix of the two ideologies, argueably Capitalism is dominant, but that still doesn't mean that we are pure Capitalistic societies.

They should've made cranberry juice run through his vein, so they could drink his blood as well.. that would've completed the sculpture and symbology. It would be so much sweeter to remember Jesus this way. -
I experience the same thing, it has something to do with the particular codec, when explorer tries to show the first frame. But I've never been able to find out exactly why it crashes. If I change the codec the error stops.

^ Well, people just like taking about stuff they have no knowledge of. Which is why I'm gonna add my 2 cents - fight the fire with fire I say! Neither of you (Sand or Roshan) seems to have any grasp of what you are actually talking about - or maybe you just choose to be narrowminded to force an argument through? Both Socialism and Capitalism have the same goal - to make life better for as many people as possible. They just disagree (to a point) on where to start and how to proceed from there. Socialism regards property as a common right, while Capitalism views it as a private right. S argues that humans need to agree and come together to make decisions to further the common good, while traditional Capitalism (like Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations) sought to end mercantalism and trade restrictions by removing the responsiblity from the state (to a degree the people) and put it in the hands of private merchants, which would make sure prices were fair and equal due to natural competition. And this is of course where the trouble starts. and now I'm tired.. which just proves that I'm quite useless to this debate.. heh..

I'll try kalimeeri's option and if it, for some reason, shouldn't work - I can always delete them directly from the registry.. update: Worked like a charm!! thanks for the feedback..

I tried that, but I couldn't find it all apparently. I'm running XP Pro. What do I do exactly?

recently one of my harddiscs decided to suddenly change from E: to F: and my DVD drive vice versa. This was somewhat annoying, but not something I thought hard about untill suddenly I realised that all my games stopped working. I can't even uninstall them, since the program can't locate them. I can delete them, but then I can't reinstall them, since Windows still have them in it's regristry. I've since installed some new games, which I don't want to uninstall - so I don't want to change the harddic's location - just remove the old entries. How do I uninstall these games? is there a program that can delete in from the regristry? - Rosbjerg

so you are trying to say that realization and exsistence is the same - since exsistence is?

You are looking at the immidiate effects right now, sure at this point they've accomplished nothing, they are back to sqaure one .. but the fact that we are having this discussion means that they've made an impact into the world scene for more than a nuclear program. I think they did this as a PR mission, not to show how merficul or strong they are. But to show that they are defiant and that they were able to capture Coalition soldiers (on their own turf) without any serious reprecussions. This also sends an image out into the world that US and it's allied are too busy (maybe to weak?) to enforce the laws in their captured regions - this, plus the fact that we haven't caputred Osama Bin Laden and along with all those other small problems, illustrates that the West is not as strong as they appear. This maybe be untrue, but that's what the rest of the world sees. Iran was throwing a dry twig on a small fire - and if it continues I'll gurantuee you that that fire will grow out of proportion sometime soon! It only takes one to listen before you are heard.
-
Sorry if it seemed like I was praising him, I most surely wasn't .. I was merely looking at it from a political perspective and from that point of view Iran steered through this conflict quite ingeniously. But it was a cheap trick nonetheless.

Woke up about an hour ago (it's 7:30 PM here) after a long night .. me and 5 others went to Boomtown (a gaming internetcafe) for a 10 hours "session". From midnight until 10 in the morning. So I'm a bit out of sorts today..
-
This was never aimed at us to begn with.. The soldiers were a means to an end - Irans is trying to assert her power over the Eastern world and to all the would-be powers who's against the western (US) hegemony.
-
Now they are released.. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also held a powerspeech were he tried to seems merciful and strong at the same time, while still succeeding at stabbing at western culture, by adressing the fact that the the British had put "a mother away from her children" in charge of the mission, which suddenly meant that western cultures are in decline, since we don't respect family values. So Iran won this little conflict imo, by using this holiday (the prophet Muhammeds birthday and Jesus' ressurection) as an excuse for mercy. Nicely played, and it shows us that the middleeast are just as shrewd in their political cunning as even the most skillfull politician in our world.

I'm thinking about this build P4 650 3,4 Ghz with a NorthQ 3312 Giant UFO cooler AsRock 775Dual-Vsta Motherboard Kingston ValueRAM 1gb DDR II and a 250 GB HDD and then I'm looking for a reasonable graphics card, but I don't know if I should go for an AGP or a PCI-E card.. what the difference? (aside from their location) this build costs 500$ so far.. and I'm looking for a card at around the 100-200$ price range. Any good ideas?
