Ambivalence would best describe my feelings towards this series. But I will most surely watch the 3rd instalment nonetheless! It's action and well directed action at that - as depleted as that genre is, a good explosion and an ensuring sword/gun/whater-fight can be quite entertaining.
  2. Worked hard again today .. The call-center buisness is wierd - very American in it's culture with pep-talks and coachingsession (using those terms as well, even though it's a Danish workplace) I can't help but laugh at it, since it's so different from our culture that it's having the exact opposite effect on us. Gonna RP tonight with a few buddies, accompanied with some good strong red wine and a big feast, which will finish the day of nicely I think.
  3. You are such an inspiration.
  4. I've never had any alts. or have I? Edit: Also I miss the time where you would sit around pressing F5 (or reload) every second, because there was so much activity in a thread.
  5. nothing wrong with remembering old members who don't frequent here anymore. As long, as you mentioned, that it doesn't turn into a "us vs them" kinda nostalgic thread.

I think the one you have now is better.
  7. I remember when Baley was just spamming wierd posts all the time - and how confused I was when he suddenly started making sense.
  8. So if I torture you for no apperant reason I'm just trying to enforce an archaic view of catagorization on you, simply for the reason of making you act a certain way? -- Let's for arguments sake just assume that GL was trying to make a statement about the inherint qualities in humans. Saying that emotions like greed, anger, fear and hatred were all associated with corruption of the mind and soul - while on the opposite side benevolance, compassion, forgivness and respect were signs of enlightment and purity of mind and soul. But the question posed in this thread is "What's so bad about the dark side anyway" - well it's a symbol of human weakness and that classical statement "the road to Hell is paved with good intensions". You're essentially asking what's so bad with fear, anger, hate and greed. One of the most simple answers would be, that such emotions causes us to be clouded by our own illusions. On the other hand though - compassion, benevolance and forgivness without true purpose is just as dangerous - but that's why the road to Hell is indeed paved with good intensions. Edit: Sorry about the double posting - my browser went insane for a moment.

My signature, by the way, is a variation of the classic Dog Eat Dog - semi reversed. It's a somewhat cheesy attempt to try and critisize the current religious wars.
  10. I haven't been to church for 9 years. I guess I'm a bad Christian.
  11. Call of Duty 2 .. those games are so intense that it almost hurts!
  12. ah, well then we have almost the same system.
  13. I would like a combo game - a strategy in the likes of Civilization, Total War and Galactic Civilizations mixed together. But added in there I want to be able to participate in every battle as a common soldier if I so choose, the computer would then take the role of overall commander. You could also zoom down onto any city/planet and cruise the city GTA style .
  14. But I used it as an example of an unwinning battles done in a way that was believable. Not as a portrayal of a good Crpg.
  15. Have any of you played Freespace2? You are this pilot in the Human fleet against an endless mass of superior aliens - there's no winning in the game - every battle you lose a little more, even though you "won" by the games term (able to advance to the next scenario) the game is just a series of retreats and withdrawls and uneven battles. An extremely good game for it's time, where you really felt that you were pushing your luck everytime you survived (by fleeing) or fought of a few Shivans.
  16. Wait, you pay taxes every month right? and then they send you an estimate of it, which you have to correct for yourself - adding extra income etc. right? I hope you're not expected to pay your taxes for an entire year at once.
  17. have you been listening to Tom Waits' "Step right up" for too long?
  18. speaking of taxes - I just recieved 1000$, since I've apparantly been paying too much. But you do your own taxes over there in the US. Is that for the year to come, or?
  19. Exactly! I understand your argument.. We just disagree on the definition - I agree with you till the point that the battle is by definition unwinnable - I want the player to mature to the point that s/he realizes when something is lost and gives up by free choice instead of being forced to. Will it cause frustration? great - Will it create anger? Even better.. Computer games could be so much more than mere entertainment.
  20. Changing the player won't solve this problem. It's a conflict/issue that lies within Windows Explorer.
  21. I don't like the idea of an unwinnable battle - but I most definitely don't support making all battels automatic winnable (like say do X and he'll die). If you are a lvl 1 Paladin and you take on a Dragon, it would require a disproportional amount of planning to even scratch it. So the battle is - in a sense - unbeatable, but the dragon is mortal, so if you were strong enough or planned it well enough, you could kill it/hurt it. Things shouldn't be toned down nor up. Any resonable person wouldn't take on a lion, without considerable weaponry, in real life - but it is possible to kill one with your bare hands even so. I would however love to see consequences to losing a battle and surviving. In an RPG this would probably mean that your enemies became stronger or at least less weakened. It's all too often either win or die (reload). This would also be great in Strategy Games like C&C etc.
  22. I just realized that my sig actually makes alot of sense when put in relation to this thread..
  23. The Western world is no more decadent than the rest of the world. I've been all over Europe, in 5 different countries on Africa and covered much of Asia and I see the same things all over - sure some cultural differences mask some faults in human nature, but on a whole every society and every culture is merely a cracked dam which holds the worst of us at bay. It's human nature that's the "problem" here - not a specific culture or idea.
  24. The only way I can stop it from crashing is changing the codec. If I use small icons explorer won't crash when I overview the files, but will still do it when I highlight or play the files. I use VLC as well, but without changing the codec, the problem still remains on my computer.
  25. there's something very perverted about that statement.
