  1. Oooh. That....that's *really* excellent. I knew about that weapon type, but hadn't considered it for this. It's perfect--a weapon that should in theory fit with the Huana culture to some extent, is unique and instantly identifiable, includes obsidian within it's design, and actually exists in the real world as a viable weapon. It could even be explained easily as either pirated during a raid or given to the BIB leader as a symbol of acceptance from the Huana--which, after all, probably live on the Black Isle just as they do on every other habitable island in the Deadfire. That's damn near perfect.
  2. Fat ugly english chicks about the age of your mom is also a character archetype. But one that is not relevant for this kind of game. And one that I would like to keep out of discussions about this game. You mean "christmas cake"? Sorry, there's already one of those in PoE. It's a dwarf with a bow. You might have encountered her. PS: "Ugly" is subjective. The fat english chick the age of my mom is actually a sexy archetype for plenty of people. PPS: My mom gave birth to me at the age of 15, so she's actually pretty young.
  3. Posted this in the other thread, but should probably also put it here. My idea: A unique "obsidian" (actually just black painted adra!) pegleg, used as a mace, which contains within it the soul of the BIB founder, a kind and gentle, almost one might say fluffy, person who really dislikes being used to crush peoples skulls and complains about such often.

  5. Basically the difference between an 18 Might Wizard and an 18 Might Fighter is in training. The fighter has trained to use their soul power one way, and the wizard another way. That's literally it. Different applications of the same underlying capability. How else do you think a fighter can knock down a freaking 10 foot tall ogre (whose attacking with a literal tree as a club!) with a stiletto?!
  6. I'd say, simply put, that there's an attribute that's supposed to affect all direct HP modifications your characters cause, and that's enough justification for me.I'm just baffled that people would go out of their way to explain why can't there be a direct link between strength and spell damage in spite of magic being ... Well, made-up and with no point of comparison to the gritty reality we have all experienced, yet don't really mind that there is a link between Might and crossbow/firearm damage where we do know for a fact that's just not how those work. Well unless you throw a gun really hard at someone while firing it, thus adding some velocity to the bullet. But it's a talent with rather low ACC.As I said tho, I'm not complaining - I'm used to playing board games, so clarity of ruleset always trumps the theme. Which means that Pillars of Eternity still leaves me with a lot to desire. But not in department of Attributes which are all 100% clear. Lovely. I do hope Deadfire goes further in that direction and finally comes up with a RPG ruleset that's actually intuitive in all of its aspects, that'd be nice. This is probably overthinking it, but if high might makes you good at magic you theoretically could magically influence bolts and bullets, right? That is *literally* how the lore works, actually! High might means strong soul power, and fighters *actually use their soul power* to make their strikes.
  7. There is a cursed weapon in PoE. Do you mean the Dissapointer or the Unlabored Blade? Both are "kinda" cursed but not really--the effect is temporary and limited to that weapon only. I assumed they were talking about The Grey Sleeper where you cant unequipp it. Yup. I'd have mentioned it, but thought it could be a spoiler to say so. I wouldn't call the Grey Sleeper cursed, because while it can't be removed it has no negative effects and that's *really* important to the idea of a "cursed" item to me. Really, PIllars only does half-baked "cursed" items--stuff that has negative penalties to the items effects, sometimes that can be overcome, or simply the "can't be removed" deal but with no negative effects associated with it. There are not any cursed items in the sense of items that bestow negative effects on the characters and cannot be removed until they are uncursed, which is really the definition of "cursed item" that I feel most people go on when they hear the term. There are many ways to build a cursed item, and they don't necessarily involve negative penalties. One just needs to open ones mind to the possibilities. Yes, but when one says "cursed item" there is a conception in the average RPG players mind of what a cursed item is, and Pillars *does not do that*. That's my point; "cursed items" as are generally thought of are not a thing in this game, they do *other* things instead because they specifically dislike the "cursed items" trope.
  8. Good to see NinjaMisogynist is at the same level of tact and deep thought as he was *before* I blocked his ass. On other, more important, matters--Might isn't Strength. It *can* be strength, but it *isn't* Strength. It's Might. It works differently and at the end of the day, you decide how big of a problem that is for you.
  9. Exactly. I think there was a disconnect in the development process; clearly the people who did the scripted interactions didn't have a clear understanding of how might is not strength. But might is strength. It's not only physical strength, it also includes spiritual strength and the game does not explain if or why the two are linked, but they come together in the might stat. Might can be strength, but might isn't Strength in the "specific title of a stat that Might is often confused with" sense, although it is often treated as such in the scripted interactions because of, I suspect, the issue outlined above.. I simply forgot a capital letter. I *really* feel that "power" is a better substitute word for what Might represents than "strength", because while Might *can* represent physical muscle power (strength) it actually represents the power--"strength"--of your soul.
  10. Exactly. I think there was a disconnect in the development process; clearly the people who did the scripted interactions didn't have a clear understanding of how might is not strength.
  11. What it comes down to is, the game is made for a community of players, not to one individuals desires or demands. If you don't like the way Might works *that badly*, get forty thousand people on your side or don't buy the game. Those are your options. That being said, this is a thread pretty much dedicated to saying things you want the game to avoid, so it's all good. Just don't expect the company to change a fundamental aspect of the game design.
  12. Why can't we have both focused/ engaging and massive. Who said you can only have one or the other? I'm expecting bg2 level of greatness or better in deadfire. I'm semi - confident they will pull it off. Time and money. Oh, I mean there's a lot that goes into it--team size, amount of development assets, etc. But what it comes down to is time, and money. Obsidian is a small-to-moderate developer, and BG2 was a freaking miracle when it comes to size, complexity, etc--it was the kind of thing where people look back at their time spent working on it and think "I don't know how we ever pulled that off". Using BG2 as your mile marker is a path to endless disappointment. It's a one-in-a-million-fluke.
  13. I think "might" would've been better named something like "power" to avoid the conflation with physical muscle. That and fixing the scripted interactions to match the lore more faithfully would fix a lot of issues with that.
  14. I did enjoy the encounter with the Death-Godlike highwayman and his gang appearing suddenly on a map that you'd already explored and been through; I thought that was a cool little encounter.
  15. Barbarian-ranger, maybe? I would like to see some unique cross-class abilities. Yes! That would be fantastic--just one or two unique abilities for each duel-class combination would be really great, through probably unlikely.
  16. Effectively an early mortar launcher, I'm betting. Unique to one of the companions, isn't it?

  18. Here's the thing: Although the godlike are often stereotyped as having certain personalities or proclivities by the people of Eora, they actually don't. Nothing in the lore, anywhere, indicates that any kind of godlike are particularly prone to any particular kind of personality structure. We only meet *one* Bird-godlike and *one* Death godlike, as far as I know, so we can't judge all Godlikes of that type based on the sample of one. People seem to act as if they expect Godlike to behave in certain ways, but they act the same way about Orlan. Nothing says that's true. So to say that the types and personality for this type or that type don't match, well I don't think that's a bug. I think that's a feature.
  19. People forget, BG was also in an established setting. Forgotten Realms was already a known quantity for expected D&D players, even then when BG first came out. They didn't have to set up who anybody was or what anybodies relation to anybody else was. They didn't have any *need* for an info dump at first. Although to be honest, we could've *used* one after Nashkel!

  21. If there's a subclass focusing on spiritshifiting, the spiritforum will get *some* new abilities on level up, I promise.
  22. And to our race. I was disappointed by lack of reaction to supposedly rare minorities, like Coastal Amaua, Wild Orlan, and especially Godlike.
