After rethinking things through, I'm going back to my original concept of a simple melee weapon made of obsidian obtained from the local culture and given to the BIB pirate crew, and then given to the player from the BIB pirate crew. I think it's simple, direct, easy for Obsidian to do, a clear homage to Obisidain, fits with the BIB's overall theme, and keeps everything nice and direct. I'm sticking with it this time. I'm done. This is it.

Well I would guess that Obsidian is interested in a more or less balanced amount of different types of items. So just as a thought: Imagine all the backers of the "create an item" tier would want to create weapons. Then I think Obsidian themselves would add less weapons created by themselves but instead other type of equipment. Imagine on the other hand all of the "create an item" tier backers would want a trinket, nobody would want to make a weapon. Then I think Obsidian would make less trinkets on their own, but more weapons instead. So I think Obsidian will have a look at what those backers wish to add to the game. And upon those choices they will then decide what to add by themselves. Because what would be the point in adding even more weapons if almost all backers of that tier wanted to add weapons anyway. So I guess/hope we can trust Obsidian that they'd try to balance that out to a certain degree. In a perfect world, maybe, but that's not how it *ever* works out. There's 30 cloaks in PoE, but I stopped counting when I hit 60 melee weapons in the Pillars of Eternity list. You have so many weapon types, and you need at least a few of each type, etc. Same with armors and shields, and you need lots of rings because you have two ring slots and you want variety.

I would argue that's exactly what the other backers of the "create an item" tier think too But maybe not. Don't get me wrong I don't want to oppose or ruin the fun As for the trinket tier at the moment we would assume that it is less restrictive than the typical equipment categories. Because how could the developers let us choose a trinket from a pre-selected set of trinkets? I don't know. But even in the case of trinkets the limitations might be more restrictive than we think they are. Anyway, just to let you know, I would be fine with a trinket too of course. It's not just the other "Create and Item" backers we have to think it about, it's Obsidian, too! And Obsidian is most likely to create more weapons, armors, and shields--and perhaps through boots and rings in there--then just about anything else.

'Tis all very true, but I do think that the opportunity for a unique, memorable item increases in the "trinket" slot or, indeed, the farther we stat away from "weapon" , "armor" or "shield". Those are the slots that most of the created items will most likely fall into, and thus the slots that created items will be most likely to vanish into. All I'm saying is that if we want our item to stand out, it's a good idea to both be creative within the boundaries we are given and to try and stay away from the most commonly used slots that will see a glut of items.

I originally voted melee weapon, but after a couple days thought deleted my voted and revoted "other" if that tells you anything. I suspect that the list of melee weapons given to choose from will be relatively generic so as to be very easily implemented--the same weapons that there will be ten million other enchanted versions of. I'd like to see our item stand out. An enchanted tri-fold hat, battered and beaten with all the the adventures it's been through (bonuses to elemental endurance?). An enchanted quill pen, capable only of writing the names of places you've already been (bonus to intelligence?). An enchanted map, showing only the places the Black Isle Bastards have yet to explore (bonus to resolve?). Etc, etc.

14 strength means you can cast Shield and fight goblins or other minions effectively in melee as opposed to being completely useless without spells. And a Bull's Strength stacks on top of that 14 so it does not "cease to matter". Yes, if you pre-buff yourself with spells you can melee with the best of them in D&D. Your point is....?

I believe the original Kickstarter badge came with any tier that included a copy of the original game. I got mine on the "Digital: Just the game!" tier, which is a non-indicative title as it included Digital Downloadable Copy of Pillars of Eternity, DRM free for Windows, Mac, or Linux. Kickstarter only in-game achievement and item. Pillars of Eternity Kickstarter Backer Forum Badge. Digital download of the Cooking with Tim Cookbook ā An RPG-themed e-Cookbook. Digital download of the making of Pillars of Eternity Documentary.

High might, low Intelligence. Boom. Mentally lacking brute accomplished. While we're at it, high Might, low Endurance--boom, physically fragile but powerful spellcaster. You're loowking for "phsysically weak spellcaster", not "physically fragile". Different meanings entirely. And tell me, why must a spellcaster *always* be physically weak? Why must you *NEVER* have a spellcaster who can pick up a hundred pounds? What does physical strength, seperate from melee combat capability, add or subtract from a spellcaster in your mind? Basically: How is this a problem, apart from the fact that it doesn't actually match the lore as far as Might not being *ONLY BOTH* in the lore?

In general, I think that's a really good idea. Keeping it more general, less detailed, and more open to interpretation allows Obsidian to have an easier time to work it into the game. The more specific, detailed, and narrowly focused it is the harder it is to implement because the more work it needs and the less it may fit into the specific things they're trying to accomplish. It's like contributing a small piece to somebody elses larger work--you want them to be able to work it into their project in whatever way is easiest for them to do.

I would be okay with both. I think the macuauitl would be more unique and interesting, bur the obsidian bastard sword would be a more direct homage to Obsidian and honestly might have a better chance of being implemented in the way we draw it up. We could name the Obsidian bastard sword "Beta Protocol".

Read the rest of Abel's post please, it's fairly clear that he's talking about resolve moreso than anything else. Considering 'Soul' is ultimately described by the entire set of attributes in Pillars of Eternity, it wouldn't make much sense to me to tie it to a single attribute anyway - that's a big part of what I'm talking about, actually. Right, but they did. Whether it makes sense to you or not, they did. Might=the power of ones soul. You can be accurate, or you can be fast, but the power of your soul is measured by your Might. No other stat has an explicit soul-connection in the lore; Might is the only stat which Obsidian has explicitly linked to a measured state of the soul.

In the world of Eora, this claim is false. Wait, what? No. In Eora, this claim is manifestly true. Souls are real material objects that vary in strength, and training to use your soul power is what wizards, ciphers, and fighters *actually do*. That's *literally* how their powers work in the lore; magic power *comes from their souls*.

WIth that information, my suggestion for the name is now "Kaʻino Nahu".

I'm confused. Why would you want to name our awesome unique weapon after a uselessly blunt mahuactl that could not decapitate a chicken?
