  1. Hmn. Does this mean food replaces camping supplies and he's worried people will rest-spam? Rest spam is more of a problem when you're low level and don't have that many spells or spell uses, so, you have to reset them a lot. I don't understand what you mean by random ambushes as a rest mechanic, you mean x chance of getting ambushed when someones listen/observe/whatever check fails? I'd find that rather annoying IMO. It means "x chance of random encounter when resting in a wilderness area", I think. Like BG and BG2 had.
  2. Taunt exists to make the "tank" party role an active role, and to ensure that said party role has a consistent role to play. Otherwise, as you said, the tanks role--the guy who can take the hits--has no "reason" to be actually useful if logic is applied to the NPC's decisions--they'd just ignore the tank while taking down everybody else, then concentrate on him afterwards (exactly like I would do to an enemy party). "Taunt" is an example of a skill that exists as a meta-skill. It's not something that makes sense inside the world, any more than stealth revealing hidden treasures or being unable to dual-wield wands.
  3. But your tank won't say "I'll hold them off, RUN!", in a hodor mechanic your tank only says "hodor", repeatedly. Hodor. Well, they'd start with "HOLD THE DOOR!", of course. "HODOR!" comes later.
  4. Did not answer the question, though. Very non-answer. I *REALLY* hated Seige of Craigholdt directly because engagement was entirely unreliable and the combat throughout the entire thing was ****ed--the whole map there was literally no such thing as "engagement", there was "hope like hell I killed them before the magic point where the ****ers ignored everything and went straight for my casters". It was crazy messy and *not* fun. I hope that engagement is more functional and tanking actually *tanks*.
  5. They actually did, though. Frostfire, for one--fire spells with both ice and fire effects, or ice spells with both. Volcanic hammer, for two--distance fire effects on critical hits. Also various aura damaging spells, the multi-target fireballs you can make, etc.
  6. The 7 cultures don't matter, because this would only apply to people in continuing game from PoE who had Deadfire as their place of origin. Only the different backgrounds would matter, and as you said plenty of those selections from Calisca can be combined. Still a hell of a lot of work, but not as extreme as all that.
  7. Holy crap, Corpse-Eater/Soul Blade...that didn't even occur to me. That sounds like what I'm doing in Deadfire!
  8. Gonna keep my PoE 1 character a cipher for my first playthrough, but I suspect a Corpse-Eater may be my second playthrough. That class sounds *fun*.
  9. This is probably not going to happen, but something I thought would be amazing is a specific quest designed around each background for characters from Deadfire. So that you have to deal with the consequences of why you originally left, whether you're an escaped slave or you ran from your apprenticeship or whatever. It would be a *ton* of work to do this, however, which is why I suspect it would never happen.
  10. I was given Tyranny as a gift, so I haven't given them any money yet, but I *love* that game--I've beaten it five times, and I'm on my first New Game+ right now. That being said, the DLC situation *sucks*. Big time.
  11. 5 euros for a portrait pack, 7 for a DLC with minor extra content for the base game. Doesn't matter when you get the disease, the symptoms are still there. I've heard that "extra content" is really just stuff from the base game that's been unlocked or "finished", too. The expansion, Bastards Wound, is supposed to be all new but that DLC...not so much.
  12. Something about how the graphics engine they used doesn't display textures in the inventory screen right or something.
  13. Watch again. Plenty of characters got damaged. You get to *watch* health *regenerate* after combat. Which, new fact: regenerating health after combat, bros.
  14. Growing svef and enjoying my well-earned retirement.
  15. After playing Far Cry: Primal, I've developed a real fear of jaguar attacks.
  16. I have a feeling that the Deadfire archipelago is based to some extent on the Malay Archipelago, so tigers seem like a real possibility.
  17. Smilodons aren't that different from stalgaer. Stalgaer are basically smilodon mountain lions that live in packs.
  18. I really enjoyed the health/endurance mechanic.
  19. I kind of rushed Act III after completing WMII. Meh, it is what is. I'm sticking with my first playthrough for my Deadfire save.
  20. Things like E3 are very important for the game and for the company. PoE2 doesn't exist in a vacuum; it's one part of a multi-part system that is Obsidian Entertainment. This is marketing, which is vital for the games success and the continued existence of the company.
  21. Sent my submission. May I add, we all appreciate how much work you put into this, Fluffle. You did a spectacular job. Kudos.
