  1. I did the same thing. I was like....oh...they didn't make him immune to this... da fug. I'm so used to bosses being immune to any sorta one shot thing it surprised me. Seriously onty did it on a whim. I reloaded though to see how hard he would be without doing it and still wasn't that tough. And his buddies dropped like minnows. Reminded me of the old Phoenix down trick from earlier FF games lol. Might be an unpopular opinion, but I really like this kind of thing. It rewards you for knowing the mechanics. Pretty much any DnD based game has this kind of stuff in it, especially the old infinity engine games. True, though in this particularly case there is certain amount or irony in using a priest, and therefore god granted, spell to instakill the guardian that moments before the gods have told you they are unable to influence.. Priests in Pillars of Eternity do not get their spells directly from the gods. Like all classes special abilities, priest spells are a manifestation of their manipulation of their own souls--in the case of priests based of the depth, fervantness, zealotry, and strength of their faith. That's why Durance still cast's spells dispite Magran being unable to see him.
  2. In Deadfire, I didn't start encountering any hard CC until around level 10, but by level 13 it's getting pretty common. I'm getting paralyzed, terrified, dominated. Not every fight, but often enough to be a notable increase, especially with special named enemies.
  3. Xoti I really liked. Her relationship could be tweaked and improved; it feels stilted in a few parts and disconnected at a few points, but overall I think the story arc is really well done, reflects her character and her relationship with the greater setting and ongoing events with depth and detail, and really gives me insight into what's going on with her.
  4. I'll go there for the hat and/or pistol, get some quick XP from a few quess I can do in five minutes. But I don't spend much time there hanging out; it's boring as hell now.
  5. This has nothing to do with how I think gods should be or are. I'm not talking about real life theology here which is why I'm not using capital letters. I expect from every story to be internally consistent. Someone being a god of "justice" while no human considers it to be so, nor does the god act like it, probably does not even consider himself/herself/itself (add your favorite politically correct pronoun) to be so, and yet the wiki/game states "god of justice" - that's hogwash. You can call it poetic liberty. I'll quote Xoti and say hogwash. If humans were suddenly able to fly in PoE and there was no half-decent explanation (like in Superman), I would also say hogwash. You're basically saying that if it looks like a duck, moves like a duck, sounds like a duck, tastes like a duck - it can in fact be a rocket because not all ducks need to be the way I think ducks should be. And to that I say - hogwash. I don't like when people make excuses of bad writing, and in fact there are plenty of real life examples of this. Sometimes a paragraph in a religious text will be complete nonsense, or perhaps an allegory, but there will always be people who will say 'no no, it's not bad writing, this is eternal truth and we must stick to it'. No, it's bad writing that's what it is. When I open PoE wiki I don't see "An entity that claims to be x". I see "Z, god of x". So it's bad writing. Either on wiki, in game, or both. And as for a god being a god of justice or something else, that doesn't mean justice did not exist before that god, it means that an entity embodies some quality to such an extent that you can use the term "god of.. x". Anyway, I think this discussion is kind of a dead end. I got answers and that's all. 1) They are not the "gods" of anything. They were literally just stated to be such and pretend to be such. The Engwithans *made* all the gods, then went around telling everybody "This is the God of Justice, that's the God of Artifice..." etc. They are *actually* just complex soul constructs made to embody different Engwithan concepts and philosophies. Woedica is only the God of Justice because she was proclaimed as such--and the "justice" she embodies is *whatever the Engwithan concept of justice was*. Since she's not actually the god of "Justice" in any sort of objective universe sense, her "justice" is only going to seem as such if you accept the Engiwithan cultural idea of justice. If you are not Engwithan and do not see justice as they did, then Woedica may not seem very just to you. This is not bad writing; this is complex writing.
  6. Correct. Twice you go to a place that he was recently at, and connect with him mentally using your shared soul through the medium of an adra pillar as he moves towards another destination.
  7. In my experience, enemies rogues will mostly use shadowing beyond when they're in immediate danger. At that point they will often use it to teleport to your backline. But it's more an annoyance than a real danger because they're already close to dying and they usually come one at a time. Ennemies fighters on the other hand will sometime just rush your backline, ignoring engagements, which promply results in them being knocked prone and look like idiots, thanks to OP guardian stance (especially with the +20 acc on disengagement attacks). Enemies melee guys aren't usually a big threat to your backline, unless you're ambushed from all sides. On the other hand, i'm not so sure the game would be more enjoyable if every enemy could ignore your frontline and go straight to your squishies. It doesn't happen all the time, which is something I enjoy. One of my problems with the Siege of Cragholdt was that simply everybody just ignored my tanks at all times and just hard rushed my back line, which was a serious and continuous annoyance.
  8. Katarack21 what level is your character? I tried that with a test character and I found as I got to be higher levels I was having trouble reaching max focus off one strike. It's possible I was under geared / un-optimized at the time so I'm curious. Level 13. I'm specialized into crits and invisibility and using the Thundercrack Pistol with the Paralyzing enchantment.
  9. I’ve not encountered enemies who teleport to my mages yet (only played a couple of hours), but that would be a great addition to combat. If the AI can’t find ways around your tanks, what is the point of having AI? If I am attacking opponents, then my first priority is neutralizing spell-casters. Shouldn’t my opponents do the same? LOTS of enemies do that. Enemy rogues will Shadowing Beyond to your rear guard, enemy fighters will charge to them, etc.
  10. Don't do drugs, kids My Nalpazca monk questions the wisdom of that statement.
  11. Pledge to Rymgrand and play a death godlike. You're just doing everybody a favor by bringing them oblivion.
  12. Could you elaborate? I can perhaps see the "chore" part, as combat required more of the player's attention in the original. But, since most fights in Deadfire do not reward or punish the player for paying attention and actually using tactics, I'm failing to see how most combats are actually interesting in Deadfire? With abilities and health regen between fights, individual encounters can be more dangerous. Because of this system, I try to punch above my weight far more often, seeking out red skull fights and seeing if I can pull them off. It also means I don't have ot conserve abilities as a resource, so I can comfortably steamroll trash mobs quickly. All the fights in PoE1 felt like they just dragged on. Resource management isn't fun. Playing with abilities and spells to solve an encounter is. I'm gonna have to disagree with you pretty hard there man. You shouldn't have to seek out stuff that outlevels you severely to feel like you've found a compelling challenge. Combat encounters should feel at least moderately challenging on normal difficulty. I mean, a large number of them DO. I've wiped on several regular encounters on Normal difficulty. I also don't want EVERY battle to be life or death, that gets EXTREMELY TEDIOUS if I have to treat every battle like a boss encounter. Truth. There's a rhythm that I want out of combat, where I feel like a badass but then have to push or challenge myself.
  13. The Devil of Caroc breastplate is available if you spared Harmke in White March. In the end slide she wanders off and get's torn apart by villagers; one of those villages was a blacksmith who forged the breastplae from her torso. It's a morbid little item, but an awesome breastplate. If you got that ending it's in the armor shop in Periki's Overlook.
  14. "Katharak. Spider-headed, bristling with guns." Interesting. Wonder why they went with spider-headed lmao
  15. I multiclassed Ascendant with Assassin, and it's been pretty badass. One assassinate can get me up to max focus, and then I spam.
  16. She robbed nobody. She was defrauded by a cheater and simply obtained her goods back when it was discovered. In Vailian political world, what she did is only robbery because she didn't report him to the authorities (due to the authorities bias against her kind). In Huana society, what she did wasn't even illegal in the slightest if not for the fact that he's thee equivalent of a Kotaru. Rinco is a liar and a cheat, and was the one who instigated the fight and committed the theft.
  17. My level 13 five-person crew (consisting of myself as a rogue/cipher, plus Eder as a fighter, Pallegina as a paladin, Xoti as a priest, and Fassina as a conjurer) just took down a level 20 ship captain and his level 16 crew. Now here's the thing; it took me 7 or 8 tries to do this. I had to pull out all the stops, eat through my healing potions, drop four bombs, burn all my per-rest statues, empower everybody once each, etc. It was difficult and complicated as hell, and when I finally pulled it off I felt like I really, truly achieved something.
  18. I'm not. It's basically frame a piece of filth and let him die to help a noble worker save his people or save an innocent man. Definitely one of the better morally ambiguous quests. Though admittedly it took me five seconds to make up my mind which was the correct option after having played through the quest so many times in the beta. **** Tamua. Tamua may be an ****, but he's an *innocent* ****. The other dude should have the balls to confront his chieftain with his idea, not frame somebody else to cover up his actions.
  19. I'll say this, I've been using Body Attunement pretty regularly, as in multiple times every fight.
  20. This has been a complaint of mine all throughout the beta, as well as the cast time for summoned weapons. I *really* wanted to play a caster/melee hybrid that used summoned weapons, but it's not really viable because they made summoned weapons suck.
  21. No, it's not. That's just a myth that older members here go-to every time they hear someone call out Obsidian for their rough releases. To generalize modern games as buggy, whether we're talking rpg's with alot of freedom or of all genres, would be a flat out lie. I've played alot of games on Steam and consoles for the last few years and barely any of them had bugs. Obsidian has a reputation much like Bethesda, on that the games - even when delayed still turn out to be a bugfesta. They *used* to be. I haven't encountered an actual bugfest in an Obsidian game since Stick of Truth. I have encountered bugs, but *NOTHING* like they used to be. Every major game that comes out is buggy at first. Not just RPG's; everything from Grand Theft Auto to Mass Effect to freaking Far Cry 5 are *FULL OF BUGS* on release. And this isn't "modern games"; as I mentioned, even back in the day every game that came out was full of bugs. Consoles are different; they have standardized hardware on all versions of the same console, so it's a *WHOLE* lot easier to predict hardware/software interactions and keep bugs low. Independent and small-studio games are also different; the games are generally much smaller and simpler, which again means inherently lower opportunity for conflict and bugs. Show me a major PC release from a moderate-to-large studio in the last 20 years that was bug free on release.
  22. Anybody else remember when companies used to release games with bugs that would literally uninstall your Windows partition? I mean, this game has bugs, yeah, but let's not go all "bugsidian" on this. This is a pretty normal release for any company in the modern world.
  23. I've had Cosmo the last 40 hours of gametime, but then tonight I got Concelhaut and he is hilarious. Probably gonna trade him out eventually, though, because he talks *all the time*.
  24. Special ability Poison Dipped does 0 damage per 0 seconds for 0.0 seconds on hit. How does that work?
