  1. This. Maia will stay on the ship, and I am going to sabotage RDC as much as I can. At least Pallegina is honest about Vailians. But also I found it strange that the only two options in a later dialogue were to either "not talk about it" or discuss how to better do her job. Unless I am missing something. You can't outright tell her this is wrong, what RDC is doing is wrong. You can either not talk about it at all or support RDC and advise on how to better break the Huana for conquest. No thats not it. He is not giving territory, he is only inviting Vailian cooperation to establish a trading post and to help their settlement because he is no longer adhering to tradition. The one who wants to stick to tradition in the Priest lady, and RDC are the ones who take land from Huana. Vailians are actually less invasive, they work in cooperation, not through submission. Thing is Tikawara can't survive without trading post because of how scarce the natural resources are. Kokti grows badly there and from what I remember there are troubles with the fish as well. An alliance with VTC is that of necessity and survival, not because the chieftain is stupid. I could tell Maia that the assassinations were wrong in her post quest convo. The option wasn't a straight up "it's wrong" yelling thing though. It was closer to "Rauatai is better than this" option. As for the Vailian not conquering lands. I think someone missed a side quest (well task). There is an Huana who wants his tribe contract with the Vailian to be changed because the current terms are that once their chieftain dies the VTC owns the entire island they live on. They steal via bureaucratic, plunder all the resources and then leave. "Digging up the Deadfire with both hands and shipping the riches overseas."
  2. Do you have any evidence they will **** it up? It's not the first adra pillar they're experimenting upon, you know, so they're not complete noobs at it and know the dangers. Btw, I loved what they did in Neketaka - a teleportation invention? That one hell of a breakthrough! When they figure out the details in full, people will be able to travel instantly through adra to other continents, how cool is that? They sent me to the Realm of Rymgrand on accident, who nearly killed me and threatened retribution if the experiments continued. I count that as a ****-up. It's also important to note that, again I could be wrong, but I believe the Poko Kohara adra pillar is the only one with a *functional Engwithan control system*. The one at the digsite did not have a control system, and on top of the Spire they just have a large chunk of Luminous Adra with a VTC-built control system attached to it.

That was also the main reason i destroyed the pillar: to me, it was either A) leave the pillar standing only to leave it for the vailians to experiment on, which seemed especially bad considering it already got corrupted without animancy experiments; or B) destroy it and all the souls in it, as well as removing one of the routes towards reincarnation (not a pleasant choice either) but at least making certain the adra pillar, and the souls that would end up passing through it, don't get corrupted or abused by the Vailians, as well-intended as their research may be. It got corrupted because of Anaharu, not the Vailians. Personally, I've no qualms about letting animancers experiment. Without experiments there will be no progress. If people gonna stay afraid of potential hazards of scientific research they will not accomplish anything. They won't understand how the world around them works, they won't invent any quality-of-life inventions and they certainly won't fix the damn broken Wheel. Sure, there will be failures but without them there won't be a success either. And not all animancers are mad scientists like some people would like to believe, there are also responsible ones. And I believe in what Giacolo said about them being able to self regulate themselves. It's just like in the real world - you can't stop progress, sooner or later it will win the hearts and minds of all nay sayers. Sure, that's totally accurate, and I support animancy. But letting the VTC animancers experiment on a functional Adra pillar is like letting Leonardo Da Vinci experiment with a nuclear reactor. It's not the animancy I oppose; it's the level of tech their playing around with while having no idea what they're doing.
  4. I would have went this route. I would have kept the injury system, but I would have used a 5-tier injury system, not a 3 tier, and I would have only tied a small portion of major injuries to a possible death--and made it clear which injuries were minor and which were major while also providing a toggle to turn permanent death on or off.
  5. Also, I may be wrong on this, but isn't Poko Kohara one of the few places that, apart from simply being a functional Adra pillar, still has active and functional computer equipment controlling the Adra pillar? I'm not sure I trust the VTC with that.
  6. There's no specific evidence about Tikawara, but there is evidence that this is a common business modal of the VTC. The digsite in Port Maje, if you read the papers by the operators, specifically mentions depending on cheap local Huana (specifically Roparu, because they do what their told and don't complain) labor because they always need coin, and mentions regular injuries that are dismissed by superiors. Meanwhile the Crookspur quest like makes it clear that the VTC have no problem using slave labor if they feel it would be more profitable. And of course, this fate is implied to be what Anaharu and Nairi are afraid will happen.
  7. Or work in aiding vailians mine adra. You mean "work for slave wages in an incredibly dangerous job so they can get just enough money not to starve". Because if they demand more than that, the VTC will just use *actual slaves*.
  8. Isn't there a statement at one point that the constant storms from Poko Kohara are disturbing the fish and that's the problem there? It's not that the leader is turning from tradition that's the problem; some turning from tradition, like planting the seeds of the fruit instead of eating them, would benefit the tribe. It's that the leader is counting on the foreign traders to save them instead of taking direct action on their own behalf. Anaharu was right in that the Huana need to depend on themselves, but he was wrong in clinging blindly to the past.

The Vailians only care about how much money they are making, and are not above manipulating people into coercive "deals" that create utter dependence on the VTC for survival. Not to mention the whole slave trade thing.
  10. Opinions can clearly differ, and that's fine, but I would be surprised if a majority of people would put "ME2" and "better" in the same sentence. I thought the cover shooter gameplay was fun but the story was a steaming pile of thresher maw excrement. Again, opinions may differ, but I thought the writing for ME2 was ridiculously bad (partly because, as you mentioned, they ignored everything that happened in the first game). I didn't bother to finish it and that was the end of ME for me. I disagree. I thought the gameplay was interesting, though I missed some of the deeper RPG elements, and I actually enjoyed the story. I liked all the side characters and found the game fun overall. ME3 was....significantly worse, let's say. Actually really great gameplay but everything else was just...the worst. I played it mostly just because I felt like I had to finish the series by that point.
  11. See, here's the thing: that's exactly the experience that I'm having. I think part of the problem is that people are having *very* different experiences on different difficulty levels, and many of the "solutions" that people are offering are very general game changes that would effect *every* difficulty level.
  12. I think Raedric's Hold is a good example of this last one. There's nearly zero "trash mobs" in there for a party at levels 3-4. Almost all of the fights require significant spell use, or you're going to run out of health fast. Not if you go in through the dungeon. Other than the animancer and her guards, that whole place is basically just full of trash. Now going in swinging through the front door...yeah, that ****s hard.
  13. Because the Fury's weapon is a *ranged* weapon, specifically a ranged two-hander, like a bow or an arquebus.
  14. Also, why can't the other gods use adra then? I kinda don't buy they are more reluctant to waste kith souls than Eothas is. Isn't Hylea also goddess of all creatures of the sky, inlcuding dragons? And there are hints at mutated mammoth sea beasts that have something to do with Galawain at some point (which was under water). Those mutated giant sea creatures are the krakens, giant sea serpents, etc. that make passage in the Deadfire and east of it so dangerous. Galawain didn't make them; the Engwithans did, it's all in the murals and records of the place when you explore it. Galawain "adopted" them as basically the biggest and baddest of the creatures of the sea.
  15. Again, talking about a problem without also measuring it isn't a helpful addition to a discussion. I don't think this is hard. You're not "measuring" the problem and you're not looking for data. You're just questioning the experiences of a *LARGE* group of people because it allows you to dismiss their experiences as invalid. It's a common type of ad hominem attack; "You're experiences run counter to my opinion, so I'm going to say you didn't actually experience that". Talk about adding nothing to the thread; attacking peoples honesty to dismiss their experiences adds nothing but your excuses rather than actually discussing the issue itself, which is what should be the main focus. I don't feel the need to prove to your ass that I experienced a large degree of frustration from the need to backpedal throughout the game. We can talk all day long about how gameplay styles differ, about why I may have experienced this differently from you, about things that can be done to push the experience one way or the other, all sorts of things. But when I tell you that I experienced something, we don't debate about whether I experienced that--unless my statement is blatantly absurd or otherwise wholly disconnected from reality. You can question the validity of any facts that I state, but you don't tell me that I didn't feel that way or didn't experience this situation. Basically, saying "I don't think you really had to backtrack at all" invalidates your argument by proving that you have no way to argue against my experience, so have to resort to my experience not actually existing. To do otherwise is pure fallacy and serves only to undermine the integrity and validity of any debate. So as long as you keep stating that whole groups of people are lying about what they experienced during gameplay, I'm just gonna keep mocking you rather than attempt to engage a legitimate debate with somebody whose whole opening statement was nothing more than a dismissive ad hominem.
  16. What I don't see here is an intellectually honest question worthy of a serous response. You sure showed those game-hating liars, though. Where did I say anyone hated the game? I just don't think people should complain about a problem without also taking the measure of it. This is why the frequency question is important. If you had to abandon non-Endless Path dungeons only 2-3 times in a completionist playthrough, is that really a problem worth talking about? Much less redesigning the game around? No. What you're doing is calling into question other peoples honesty because the experiences they talk about don't match with your own. Instead of discussing the problem you're attacking the statements about the problem to cast doubt on whether the problem even exists. I won't play your game, but I'll mock you for it.

  19. I can't agree with this. Oh, I think that there are a LOT of things that are improved, but not everything. 1. I don't like the graphical abilities trees. I really HATE having to slide my mouse over all the damned abilities to be able to read what each is. HATE HATE HATE it!!! I greatly prefer POE1's text based version. This one is pure bovine fecal matter, it's so bad. 2. I don't like the lack of any need to rest from simple fatigue. They implemented diurnal cycles around the rest of the game and yet removed it from the party. That's just wrong. Your party members should need to rest at least once per day or suffer increasingly bad fatigue penalties. And that's just on the most basic level. On a more detailed level, perhaps the party should have to rest after some number of engagements as well, because just doing nothing is less exhausting than fighting battle after battle. The trick with this is though that you can have a number of smaller engagements in quick succession at times when the bad guys in the second group don't get triggered to come running to assist the first group. So maybe this would be solved by some sort of count of the number of enemies you've fought, or perhaps how much time you've spent in combat (probably better). Maybe that's too much underlying complexity. it just bugs me that you don't have to rest at all in this game unless you've taken injuries or been hit by curses that can only be removed by rest. 3. Subclasses. I have no problem with the concept of subclasses. I just don't like the lack of flavor in them. They're bland as hell. Subclasses seem to me to be little more than (usually) 3 different play styles for each class with next to no attention being paid to developing some true flavor to the subclasses. Personally, I think that most of the old kits in BG2 felt like they had more flavor than the subclasses in PoE2, which is a shame. And let me say, for me, it's not that subclasses are unplayable. They're just much too bland in most cases for my taste. I could go on, but I don't have the time right now. 1) I like the visual angle because it's much more clear, at a glance, what my character is. Once I learn where all the abilities are in the visual display, I can glance at the screen for one second and know exactly what abilities my character has because of the visual display system. 2) I strongly disagree. I consider the need to rest from fatigue to be right up there with requiring food and water intake or weight limitations in the inventory; it's annoying micromanagement that adds nothing to the game play for me and just forces me to have to calculate for no damn reason. 3) While you have something of a point, you lose it when you bring up BG2. The kits had no flavor, no lore, no reactivity of any sort, they existed solely as powergaming exercises.

Maia has long hair tied in a bun, Berath actually has short hair (my interpretation may be wrong, but it looks like she has shoulder length hair.) Berath > Xoti > Maia Well Berath is a god, their hair is whatever length they want it to be for that manifestation. But what we see definitely seems to go over their shoulders and down their back on at least some instances.

  22. From what I've noticed while playing is that there's a huge amount of enemies with incredibly high pierce DR. Making most piercing only weapons obsolete in certain scenarios, where as weapons with multiple damage types really shine thanks to their ability to convert their damage into whatever works best. Like skeletons are immune to all piercing damage in this game. (Which wasn't the case in the first game, pierce just did less damage) skeletons are immune to piercing? I'm fairly sure I can one shot skeletons with a plain arquebus in the first island. I don't normally delve too deep into game mechanics, but I thought arquebus does piercing damage? Some skeletons are immune to piercing. Other enemies with skeleton in their names are not.

I've also been giving this hard consideration; as I'm going through my first game I'm examining the different drugs and the crafting costs/ingredients associated with them and considering how it would work with a Nalpazca, but I haven't actually played one yet. I'm curious what the board thinks of them.
  24. Every single aspect of PoE 2 is improved over PoE. I mean that; from the graphics to the quests to the classes and combinations to the combat to the reactivity of the world to the epic scale of the story, and more. I can't find anything about the game that isn't superior to the original, and that's ****ing impressive.
  25. In real live, when first encountered by Europeans, macuahuitl's were referred to as both swords and clubs, depending on the person and the situation where they were encountered. I personally wouldn't have a problem with that, but it might be seen as confusing to people who don't know what a macuahuitl is and don't understand the reason for the mismatch of type and description.
