North Koreans show up in menacing looking trucks and take over the White House in 9 minuites. After that the only hope for the country is John Mcclaine and his 8 year old daugher Lucy. It does not compare well with the earlier movies and suffers from a severe lack of Alan Rickman or a Jeremy Irons with a german accent.

Kerry's Israeli/Palestinian peace talks
I wached a documentary recently about Indian independence and I never knew that the lack of local forces and the knowledge among the local hamlets that the border with Pakistan was in the process of being decided actually incited a series of bloody pogroms. The lack of centralized power is a very dangerous thing, even for a short time.

Kerry's Israeli/Palestinian peace talks
If we are going to go digging for blame put it on bad Brittish administration prior to independence and Zionism. Maybe it could have been possible to create a Jewish state without automatically antagonizing all of its neighbours, but not with such a massive influx of immigrants over so short a time.

Kerry's Israeli/Palestinian peace talks
As already pointed out, the status quo favors Israel. With the current leadership they are going to concede exactly nothing. We don't have a strong Palestinean moderate on the other side of the equation either. Yep, entirely hopleless. They may agree on principle and set deadlines for further talks, like they have done for decades before with nothing materializing on the other end.

Only one in ten people who mention Citizen Kane have actually seen it or can remember anything about it. The rest just name drop. I saw it in school ages ago I think. Fell asleep.

I find the premise of these CEO hero/biographical movies kinda repugnant. Old socialist itch I guess.

Russia passes more homophobia laws
The Olympics can only rejcet countries based on current practices during the selection phase. If they reject countries after they have already been chosen to host an event it looks like they are chosing sides politically, which they can't do given that they have to build bridges between different government types and peoples.

The story was amusingly anime. Mostly a special effects movie though. The whole thing was somewhat ruined by the theater turning up the volume so much that the speakers crackled during the loudest bits and deaf as I was I still worried what it would do to my ears. Only thing missing was the segment at the Jaeger academy - insert random anime teenage tribulations.

Highbrow movie critics hate it. Regular mortal movie goers like it. I'm going to see it sunday.

I really want someone to tell me that Pacific Rim is good despite the reviewers hating it.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_HERO/#specifications OK so I'm looking at the specifications on the ram. Are the numbers FSB speeds ?. How do I make sure the ram I chose are compatible when the designations on the kits I see mention PC 17000, latency timings, and not much other than that. Will they run with a small overclock and is that even relevant anymore. Will anything called DDR 3 do ?. So yes, I kinda decided to spend what I need to and stretch the budget to fit. I want a large bundle of ram that isn't too slow.

About hate-mail and other online abuse.
It seems to me that one can have a professional online presence with the simple adherence to a few ground rules. Do not take youtube comments to heart for instance. As a public persona trying to get something out of that presence in the form of word of mouth, promotion etc. you are also going to take abuse. That's just the nature of the beast. It's all a show though. They aren't your friends and the persona you share isn't the real you. It's potentially dangerous to become addicted to the buzz around your persona, and if you start confusing that buzz with real sentiment you could get hurt. So, maybe stepping back from the whole thing for a while is a good idea. So, basically Boo Hoo cry me a river.

The UK's proposed Internet filters..
I don't know how it's going to work technically, but without banning the use of proxies as well I don't see how it would be practical. Also, I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to post links to TPB here, and since I'm now a mod I suppose I will have to ask you to edit them out.

The UK's proposed Internet filters..
So much for the internet without rules. I guess it was only a matter of time before well meaning bureaucrats ruined it for everyone else. This thing about child offenders is beside the point isn't it. Those kinds of pedo networks never stay in the same place for very long. When they do, they get caught. So a blocklist would help very little, not that anyone would mind such a blocklist except for the stuff the government would inevitably sneak in the back door.

Kate and Williams Baby
The only thing that is inevitable is that power tends to consolidate onto itself. The secret to the success of any monarchy with only the apperance of power and significance is pagantry, tradition and a powerful patriotic association, a wining combination. It's not there because we need it. It's there because it has played this game of careful consolidation for centuries and has gotten really good at it.

Your conclusion is entirely correct. The same goes for our own.

It beats a guillotine. Their wealth all originates in an absolute monarchy. I'll gotten gains, however profitable the dividends are now.

The royals are needed once every 5 years to ensure the traditional transfer of power from one leadership to the next and that the military is far removed from this event, just in case. Other than that one could well argue for the appropriation of their castles and lands.

Yes, but it's an inherited government gig, and a really nice one at that. If anything like that could exist in a state that was fair to the tax payers the king would be chosen by lottery, or maybe a last man standing competition, like bloodsport.
