^It was really eye opening. See for the most part, where ever a carrier battle group pulls into for shore leave on a regular basis, the locals tolerate 5000 sailors streaming off the boat to defile their town because we dumped a lot of coin. In Chile, the locals loved us just because we were American (and probably because we were the first carrier there in 20 years or something so we hadnt worn out our welcome yet, lol). They lined the piers where the liberty boats would pull in and waved and cheered. I remember a nice couple, upon seeing my friends and I struggling to read a Spanish language menu got up from their meal and came over to help us order...then bought us drinks! Oh, and the women are drop dead gorgeous. Great country, I highly recommend it.
