A long time ago I heard a saying (paraphrased): "The Marines take the beaches, the Army holds them". It articles seems to me to be a structural and technological pivot. Smaller forces but more highly armed with missiles and (as yet non-existent) unmanned vehicles. Since China will be our next war it makes sense to plan accordingly. Or we could wait for global warming to sink all their manmade islands. According to the experts, that amount of sea level rise will happen in our lifetimes.- Wag More Bark Less -- Cute and Funny Animal Pics
I sniff my cats all the time. They smell kinda like hay.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
Its as if you didnt read beyond the first 8 words of my post. Cant debate with lunatic fringe.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
I dont have a huge problem with that, but it should be fair. Something like, "heres a check for <todays> value of your land and the structure on them, you have 90 days to pack you sh*t and hit the road" seems fair to me but only in cases of major infrastructure projects. But I can commiserate with these few individuals.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
No, never heard of it but I just read the wiki about it. Also, I see Ive been spelling eminent incorrectly.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
Im aware of a few examples where 10's of people were affected by imminent domain (for example, I think a bunch of farmers lost most of their acreage when Route 66 was built), and that totally sucks for them, but Im not aware of any real abuses of the system itself. Do you have any examples? To me its kinda, the need of the many outweigh the needs of the few.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
If you mean how much money will be invested into each project, theres a "key provisions" chart in the article I linked. If you mean how much money will be lost to mismanagement vs used for infrastructure projects, who knows. Theres also a 142% chance that any new infrastructure project will infringe on "dem bones" and be sued into oblivion. But I guess the government could bust out imminent domain. 🤔- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
Absolutely. Infrastructure investment is always a good idea. Its one of those things that isnt visible to the everyday user, but is vital to operation. Like replacing knob-and-tube wiring of an old house. But you are right about one thing, as you yourself illustrated, everyone will qq and produce "heres 10 new problems for every solution" like they are wont to do.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)

Wow, I thought he was long dead for some reason. I briefly listened to his radio show back in the 90's. Interesting life he led.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
I wish! Obviously, I was supposed to be born into a wealthy family, perhaps royalty even, but alas my reality is much closer to the other end of the spectrum.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
Just in case you didnt know, its an olden tyme term for "a wealthy and powerful person, typically one involved in business or politics."- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
Dear god, its come full circle and Im part of the problem! As far as I can tell, its any individual (that has more than you), corporation or bank. For example, some bank lent me a tremendous amount of money at a laughable interest rate and then gave me 30 years to pay it back. But because they are making a profit off me, they are fatcats that need to be taken down a rung or two and should instead be paying me my due. Or something like that. Im kinda new to embracing this mantra.- The All Things Political Thread (One thread to rule them all and in the darkness bind them)
I already have a house. Does that make me a fatcat?- New Scientific Discoveries, Part Drei

Being the eternal optimist Ive got my fingers crossed that someone will create a Chicago fund for Italian/Germans. But seriously, when considering the eligibility requirement of the linked program, these families need it a lot more than I do. Im getting by and all, I just dont feel like doing it anymore and want someone to carry me into my golden years. Ive literally had an unbroken chain of employment for 34 years with only sporadic vacations over that span. Is it really asking to much to be provided the basics in life like; housing / medical / education / basic income / food / utilities? - Funny Stuff: Revenge of the Funny
