  1. It must be fun but I think the developers sacrificed role playing for the flexible game mechanics at this point.
  2. Why is it 'bad' roleplaying if your Barbarian has high Lore? Because Barbarians train their physique not their minds. I am not saying they cannot be educated but not too educated. You can't do everything in one lifetime in real life either than how could one achieve that in this harsh fantasy world? It's not realistic at all.
  3. I know these things. My problem is that only high stealth is useful for the entire party. You can use the various companions for the other skills but it doesn't matter which companion you use. Eder can have high lore, Aloth can have high athletics, etc. It is bad role playing however in my opinion to have for instance a barbarian with high lore. In other words the skill system doesn't fit organically into the game mechanics. :/
  4. Can someone please explain to me the purpose of the skill system? I understand the basics, meaning I understand that you can pick locks with high mechanics or you can receive extra dialogue options with high lore, but are these skills class specific? Should I focus on certain skills when I play with certain classes or should I develop all the skills simultaneously? The athletics skill for example doesn't appear to be useful beyond a certain point. If my fatigue is already reduced by 90% what's the point of developing the skill even further? My barbarian won't become stronger from athletics as far as I can tell... His health and endurance are based on his level and attributes. Or am I mistaken? The situation is similar with the rest of the skills as well. Maybe stealth and mechanics are exceptions (I suspect I will encounter more observant foes and stronger locks towards the end) but I am not sure. I think from a role playing perspective a stealthy barbarian would be pretty ridiculous just like a wizard with high athletics. I have an aumaua barbarian and I have the first four companions but I have no idea how to develop their skills. So far I gave mechanics to Aloth and developed his lore. I also developed the athletics and survival skills of my barbarian. But I don't know what to do with the rest. There are only 5 skills so there aren't too many options. When I find the ranger companion I will give her stealth... but apart from that the skills of most of my companions look the same. It's quite depressing. I checked the game manual for more information but its skill descriptions don't match the in-game descriptions so it wasn't particularly useful. Can someone please explain to me the skill system? I would appreciate some suggestions regarding how to develop the skills of my party members too. As I said my party contains a barbarian, a fighter, a wizard, a priest and a chanter.
  5. I see! Thank you. I did not play a cRPG since Neverwinter Night's 2 so I am quite new at this even though I started playing with Baldur's Gate.
  6. I have one more question. What is the main argument against a more balanced barbarian? Everyone seems to recommend a low constitution barbarian. What if someone wants to use the barbarian on the front line with a fighter companion? What's the problem with these stats for example? Nothing is very high but at least it is not over-specialized. Stats: 17 Might 16 constitution 13 dexterity 10 perception 12 intellect 10 resolve
  7. Thank you for the advice! My question was more story and lore oriented actually but I appreciate any advice regarding game mechanics as well. I will check the effects of the armours on my Barbarian's stats.
  8. I am not sure if anyone else experiences this issue or if this issue was already addressed in some other topic. I checked but I couldn't find anything relevant so if this issue was already addressed elsewhere or is otherwise known please feel free to remove this topic. I am experiencing some slight fluidity issues during the graphic transitions between one character design and another during character generation and a similar issue is present during gameplay as well. When I switch between character appearances (e.g. between male and female or between races) for the first time the transition has a slight tearing. After the first time it works perfectly, meaning if I return to an already seen character design there is no tearing at all. The tearing during gameplay is similar. I often experience a slight stop when I enter in a new section on the map but after the first time everything is fine. I have a close to recommended hardware so I suspect these issues are software related. My hardware is: Processor: Intel i5-2410 CPU @ 2.30Ghz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Installed memory: 8,00 GB My OS is: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with all the latest update. The resolution was 1366x768 because I used my laptop's display and not a monitor, although I intend to play it on a larger monitor. This is not a terribly annoying issue and it has not affected my game experience so far but maybe it can be fixed somehow and if that's the case I would like to know how. Thanks in advance!
  9. This might be an irrelevant question for most people but which Aumaua subspecies is better for the barbarian build? As far as I understand the history and geography of Eora Coastal Aumauas are more urbane and civilized (although more warlike) while Island Aumauas are more rural and less civilized. The Deadfire Archipelago the home of the Island Aumauas seems to be a wild place with nomadic groups therefore I can easily imagine an Island Aumaua barbarian... The problem is there's already a possible Aumaua companion in the game and he is Island Aumaua (despite his culture). I would like to play a race which is not represented among the possible companions. The Coastal Aumauas on the other hand are far too civilized for the barbarian build... they are too well organized. There is a perfect profile picture though for a Coastal Aumaua barbarian. :/ Can barbarians wield any type of armour in this game? I don't think I ever played a barbarian in any RPG before.
  10. By the way I was surprised to see that the Kickstarter Edition of the Champion Edition contains more goodies than what one would expect based on its description. The guys at Obsidian could have told us that their description is not accurate. If I would have known that I would have complained a lot less yesterday. I think most of the goodies of my tier are available on GOG which is awesome! Obsidian is awesome! Now I am off to dive back in to my imaginary life... :D Thank you very much for this game!
  11. It might be a silly question, but what is Wurm? Oh, I found the answer! I know what wurm is. Silly me! :D
  12. My thoughts exactly! Did you buy the Strategy Guide as a separate add-on? Personally I think they could have left the Strategy Guide out of the Royal Edition and gave the Royal Edition to all those who bought at least the Digital Fun Pack. Strategy Guides are usually not included in any game editions so why is it included now? I have the Digital Fun Pack + the future Expansion Pack and now I have to download at least 3 or 4 goodies separately. I believe it would have made more sense to ask those who have the Strategy Guide to download that one item separately. What Obsidian is doing is a bad business model. They will upset the majority of backers. All those who paid up to 65$ + add-ons.
  13. I don't think it's a bug or quirk. The Royal Edition does contain an additional Strategy Guide, therefore I think it is intentional. I am a little annoyed because this is really inconvenient. I have the Digital Fun Pack ( an ironic name I guess ) by the way...
  14. I just redeemed my code, however I don't understand something. My reward tier matches exactly (as far as I can tell) the contents of the Pillars of Eternity: Royal Edition but I could redeem only the code for the champion edition. I assume I did everything correctly because the example above shows the same thing, meaning the code provided is for the champion edition and all additional goodies can be downloaded separately from the backer portal. Why not simply provide a code for the Royal Edition? It would be much simpler. If you intended to provide a code for the Royal Edition instead of the Champion Edition can this be corrected later on? Correction: My order does not contain the Strategy Guide, therefore I suspect this is the answer to my question: "Due to popular demand we have created special Kickstarter Backer editions on both Steam and GOG. These editions match the retail versions of the Hero, Champion, and Royal editions, but they come with a few extra Kickstarter goodies. When you go onto your Products page on the Backer Portal you will see which Kickstarter edition was granted to your Kickstarter tier. This was done so that people could download their rewards in multiple places. Unfortunately, we were unable to map every tier perfectly. We have many tiers, many different combinations of add-ons, and only a few Kickstarter editions. Don't worry, though, because if your Kickstarter edition doesn't come with a reward you should be getting for your Kickstarter tier you can download it from the Backer Portal. In fact, the Backer Portal is the official way to download your rewards - we will always have them available for you on the Portal." I am not pleased at all. Why do I have to download most of my goodies separately? It is far more annoying than to download only a strategy guide separately.
  15. This is great news! But how will you know who's a backer on the forums and who's not? And my second question is: The Kickstarter says my pledge is collected and the amount I pledged is already drawn form my account. So is everything OK now? Or should I do something else too? I mean if the Kickstarter says the pledge is collected then you received the money... Am I right?
