Trouble with the sign-in page
Fionavar replied to ROOSTERD's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hi everyone, Is this still a problem for people? -
As Cantousent said = welcoming and creativity are grand - in the end we all benefit! For the sake of the double post - then - I thought merging them into the KS thread was a good balance with thanks, F

Journalism and sexism in the games industry
Fionavar replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Way Off-Topic
Just being the Big Green and closing this for a time-out in the sandbox. Thanks for the passion about the topic ... *watches the brooms and zamboni cleaning up the sand* -
I find it most interesting that most of the ... opinions shared here come from an apparent male perspective and that - in turn - a general counter-narrative (in respect to those who either choose solidarity in this regard (i.e. those who identify as male) or those who advocate as a feminist) seems generally absent. I have no doubt that many in the sandbox will infer as to my intent, but as it seems a time-out is in order, perhaps a momentary question for reflection would be helpful: when those who speak loudest are unaware that they silence, can those who have been silenced be heard? PS: If you like to debate my choice to clean the sandbox with a time-out, please do feel free to PM me ... it sure does get lonely on the Roost ...

Journalism and sexism in the games industry

I think TN is both correct about my ignorance in the complexity of Longknife's post and also the more general aspect of my hope for conversation. Regardless of how one interacts or posts, we still have agency and do not have to perpetuate a form of communication that is divisive and harmful, regardless of context. In respect to the topic - therefore - not necessarily some of the ensuing context, sexism itself is perpetuated when we do not individually (and collectively) claim the choice we have when confronting it. -
Build Thred 1.0 closed ... let 2.0 inspire! Fwiiw: I am holding off my next gaming notebook upgrade as long as I can to get as close to Windows 10 release!

Dragon Age: Inquisition. PS3. Was hoping to play on the PS4, but still waiting for the PS4 to have all of the daily features I take for granted on my PS3!

Journalism and sexism in the games industry

I don't really see it that way, I think it just highlights how retarded these people are. Fun fact: I made sure to use the word retarded in the above statement because then they'll accuse me of being ableist, and the irony will be fan-****ing-tastic. I'm sure you've just internalized ableism or something. So - rather than infer either the use of sarcasm or the intentional use of rhetoric- is the ableist reference intended to highlight the nature of sexism in the gaming industry? Text is always awkward, and as the topic at hand affects dreams, careers and passion, I would rather not assume meaning. The reality - whether gaming, the arts in general, generative or creative avenues of vocation all the way to almost every sector of our western economy gender and sexism certainly stratify and divide. So - it is hopeful - whenever such conversation can occur with respect and civility to help us all see how we are both complicit and part of the solution. Or such is the hope as one who usually sits in the lofty heights in the Roost far above the sandbox known as WoT ... -

Thanks TrueNeutral ... If you have a concern about the choice, please feel free to PM me - I love a good chat. Regardless, when concerns are raised about objectification based on gender and such concerns filters all the way up the Roost, seems I should do something once in a while. WoT's got a long history of that fence walking and this one seems to have passed into the Annals of Memory. PS Nice to see such passion still burning in Ye Olde WoT

It seems that there has been appropriate concern raised in respect to this feature within our snadbox that it'll be signing off now. Do feel free to celebrate physical beauty - regardless of gender identity. For now, however, we'll leave that for more private online communities.
