Can torrent sites be prosecuted.
Kaftan Barlast replied to Hiro Protagonist's topic in Way Off-Topic
They're not being prosecuted for piracy, because they havent actually shared any files themselves. They are being prosecuted for "aiding and abetting" and "preparation to.." copyright violation and illegal sharing of copyrighted material. This is the first time something like this has been tried in court, so its not clear wether it will succeed or not. They're obviously guilty of these charges, but it might not be possible to prove that legally. But the trial is a joke, the site will remain active whatever happens to these founders as its actually run on servers in strange third world countries. I dont know if its ever been a Swedish site. -
Could you be the guy who gets stuck with the amzingly bad job of implementing custom character models and weapons in our UT3 mod? We've made great progress, you'll probably only have to repeat the process 20 times now before it works

Super heroes arent supposed to be married and settled, it just kills the drama. You can have two characters pining for eachother for years, but as soon as you seal the deal, you kill it. No. I have never seen romance convincingly integrated into the gameplay* in any game regardless of genre. The storyline is where relationships, romance and sex belong. * I dont count dialogue, interactive or not, as part of the gameplay.

Note that what Im after here is not graphical depictions of sexual intercourse, its romantic and/or sexual relations between characters as part of the story. One shining example is Uncharted for the PS3. You have the guy, you have the girl and the perfect setup yet they exist in a complete non-relationship to eachother. At the end of the game, you just drive away leaving the girl behind. If it had been a film or a book, there would have been something there. But in the game, its just missing. And that in a game meant for teenagers and adults.

I glanced at two films yesterday and read a bit in a book I have, in all three of these the main male and female characters end up having sex. But in all the games I have ever played, only a handful contained any hint of romantic relationship or lovemaking of some kind. Whats up with that? Sex and romance is part of human nature, and is present in every other form of art and entertainment except games (with obvious exceptions) I was playing Fear 2 and there is a female officer by the name of Stokes involved. Now if human logic would apply to games, she and the main character Beckett would definently get something going. But I a sneaking suspicion that this will never happen, which is a shame. They could at the very least share an MRE together after having blown the villains to smithereens. So why dont we have as much love and sex in games? Is it because we dont want it? Is it the traditional ****ed up american morality? Are developers afraid to include it? Or is it just that the medium is too immature?

I think Bioware stepped way over the line when doing Mass Effect. First off, they stole the main characters name directly from from an ongoing and popular sci-fi tv show Stargate Atlantis. Then they made it a lot worse and blatantly stole the whole idea of an ancient race of beings who rise at regular intervals to harvest mankind; the Wraith who in ME became the Reapers. Now this is not just acceptable borrowing, or following established patterns in sci-fi storymaking. Its blatant, stupid, unnecessary theft. If you are going to nick stuff, then do it discreetely, dont go cutting&pasting stuff that everyone and their grandmother will realise you stole. Its like making a fantasy game about a ring some evil villain made to rule the world AND calling the main character Frodo Baggins. Its really that stupid.

I may be slightly technicly inclined, but I have never touched a Unix prompt... well, unless you count a shell via SSH. Oh wait, that DOES count doesnt it? Sweet.
-
No, but the notion of an ancient race that wakes every 50000 years to actually harvest mankind is way too close a ripoff for comfort. And a ripoff of one of the worst scifi shows in history makes it even worse. And I think Atlantis is slightly less worse than the one with mcgyver. All they do in the mcgyver one is fight men in rubber suits in someones backyard, the new one has decent some CGI

Yeah, its just a patch really. I would have been pissed if they tried to charge me for that.

Haha, how can you dumb down Fear?! It was a run-of-the-mill FPS with a little token horror-crap thrown in to make it stand out form the rest.

I like that you can shoot the damn japanese zombiegirl this time when she does her mandatory "ooOoooOoh!" appearances. You cant hurt her, but it gives me some satisfaction while Im waiting for the chance to blow her actual physical head off in the end.

One of the worst was when I discovered blatantly stole "Commander John Shepard" from stargate... which made me discover that they stole the entire "wake up every 50,000 years and eat humanity" from stargate too. I hate stargate.

People in WW2 games are always named Kowalski for some reason. And if your name end with "-ins" then you're dead meat.

It sounds to me like you just need some change in your life, get a new sense of direction, take up contact with friends you might have neglected. Starting up new on campus sounds great, and get a social hobby.

I really don't understand the ESRB
Kaftan Barlast replied to Darth Jebus's topic in Computer and Console
The ESRB are f*cking nuts. The videogame industry wanted some way to appease the Hillary Clintons out there so they created the ESRB, which mutated into a horrible monster that has the entire gaming industrys balls in a vice. The comics industry managed to do the same thing with the CCA, which was a giant oppressive choker that prevented comics becoming a serious artistic medium for decades. Until marvel simply said "we created you guys, and we can destroy you" and simply stopped dealing with the CCA, taking all the other publishers with them. That killed the CCA. EA could kill ESRB and its euro variant PEGI in a second if they wanted to, and its a complete mystery why they havent. -
We dont actually have a jury in Swedish courts. Its the judge and three officials who decide.. at level 1, that is. The higher courts have a ton of judges and other officials.

k but none of those sounds appear in Alta

I bet you cant be bothered to vote, either.

I hate prequels, but it might not suck completely. I think it will be a monumental econimic disaster, though. You take the space out of BSG and you lose 95% of the appeal.

Fine, Ill re-phrase myself from: to: I dont care if "alh-tah-iiihr" is the correct pronounciation. I prefer "all-tear/alt-air" like the 1970's computer And I think all semitic languages sound bad, even worse than dutch or afrikaans. I especially dislike the sounds that originate form the back of the throat.
