We saw Watchmen last night, and while Im somewhat disapointed that its not as bad or as good as the critics say, its endlessly preferable before reading the comic. I would give it a rating of "average" with some angry fist shaking at the fact that it was atleast 30-40 min longer than it needed to be.

If you want a challenge then one of the mid-europeans countries like Prussia or Austria is probably better than Russia, since you would start with Poland as your ally shielding you from the rest of europe. Leaving onlt the Turks to worry about.

Seems quite pointless to me, he doesnt even have a prepared script which makes listening to him quite dull.

Im thinking about just how mad one can go strategywise in ETW. I successfully invaded America with Sweden, and now Im thinking about going after those nasty Turks and whatnot in Araby. To avenge what they did to Byzantium back in 1453

Have they ever managed to get the AI to invade via ship, or is that a set limitation? But Ive personally only experienced a single bug, that the stats for 2nd and 3rd rate ships of the line have been switched.

What I dont get is why Hera is so important that you need to risk so many lives saving her? Surely the writers could have come up with a much better motivation for the final battle? Didnt Adama say just recently that he was sick of all the prophecies and bull****, so why risk everything for some kid that people have been hallucinating about?

So, Resident Evil 5 is pretty good!

I actually prefer RE5 over Dead Space. I think RE5 wins because of its straightforwardness. At the end of the day its always more satisfying to blow some dudes head off with a shotgun, than to cut the arms of yet another generic spacemonster with some bizarre laser-thingammabob. -

My hands always hurt when we've played RE5 because I subconsciously press the buttons really hard in a futile effort to make the idiot bastard character MOOOOOVEEEE DAMNIT!!!! This game better be released on the PC, that way someone could mod it to be playable -
I got even luckier when an enemy general rode out it fornt of his own guns and got blasted to kingdom come

I thought RE5 us very much an average game wrapped in extremely pretty graphics. Everything kind of works but theres nothing that stands out except the gorgeous graphics. The biggest flaw is the controls, you get used to it but you still move way too slowly for comfort. Its no wonder they had to implement a shortcut for tunring 180degrees since you move too slowly to do it "manually". This slowness makes the game harder in the wrong way, by crippling the player. When you get swamped by several zombies or a big bad man turns up behind you, you wont be able to move quickly enough to avoid getting hit. I would much have preferred if they gave you good fast control but made the enemies do more damage. The melee attack is also way too clumsy, it should be assigned to a single button and work quicker. ..and please, enough with the ***ing quicktime events already!! RE5 is extra horrific in that in not only uses them extensively in the cutscenes, but also all over the actual game. In fact, the end boss is nothing but a single, big, horrible quicktime clickfeast. I want to play a game damnit, not play "push X not to die" -
And thats what you get for not supplying a manual with a game this complex. I hate Steam.

Is anyone else bothered by how easy it is for your enemy to wipe out for artillery because your artillerymen cant man the guns again after having been scared away? I had poperly guarded my art position but a single enemy horse managed to push through and scared away two gun crews, crippling my artillery. No one died, but they just stood there by their guns doing nothing for the duration of the battle.

They're full of ***, ETW is just more of the same TW stuff we all love. With naval battles and some small changes and improvements. The fun level is the same as with any other TW game (except shogun, which sucks because ninjas are gay) the situation is like this: there is a minority of people who are extremely loud with their whining on forums etc. but the other 99% who have no problems or complaints are too busy playing the game. There was a massive "thankyou this game is great" thread on the steam forums but the angry "ETW wont run on my 13 year old pentium 2, it sucks!!!" threads drowned it out.

Thats what I read. I wonder what it means?

So... Mariokart?

The numbers of provinces arent decreased, its just that theyre spread out unevenly. Like central europe is absolutely cramped, while France is a single province. And since you have also America and India to play with, ETW has the most provinces of all TW games.

Yeah, Cryengine 2.5 doesnt have that nice fresh ring to it

You dont develop new engines just to get more eyecandy and motivate people to buy better graphics cards. You do it to best take advantage of new hardware technology and software solutions. A good example is multithreading, since we're getting more and more cores, it makes sense to develop software that can take advantage of that. And often, its better and more effective to rewrite it from scratch instead of trying to beat old software into submission. Both Carmack and Sweeney have been talking about new tech that will change the very basics of how 3D images will be drawn onscreen, beyond DirectX and OpenGL. When that happens, even Valve will have to update their engine.

I recall hearing that steam stores emergency game keys that get sent out to you, which frees your purchased game's dependence on steam, should they go under Hehe, yeah I bet they do. But here in the real world, when Steam shuts its doors, our games are gone.

If you have a game thats heavy on character-driven story and cinematics, you have to have believable characters. Resident Evil 5 has some really good face and.. actually the whole game is extremely pretty. The in-engine realtime cutscenes are almost on par with earlier CG films like "FF: Spirits within" Make that hundreds of computers per frame. A year ago, ILMs rendefarm was at around 5000 processors including available workstations, and they expand that all the time. In games, you cant do it properly so you have to "cheat" to get results.

Yeah, thats the guy who goes "I know merging all the animation in a single file along the same timeline will cause every single animation to break and have to be retouched by hand, but I dont really care. See ya!"

Faces. Thats alot in the "Im a programmer and animation is an artist thingie, so Im not going to implement that vertex weight algorithm you need so the skin wont crumple like it was made of pancakes" area

Epic has been working on Unreal Engine 4 for some time now, that Crytek is future proofing shouldnt be a surpise?

I went to a lecture held by one of the smaller publishers around and they really liked steam; the two simple reasons were: 1) Steam takes a much smaller percentage of the selling price than retail shops, so the publisher gets more money 2) The cost of packaging(minor) and distribution(major) is completely eliminated. Yet more money for the publisher.

Seriously, girls who do the whole "male friend thing" are useless. Ignore her and look for someone who shows actual interest. ...OR while she's talking you go with a sudden grab for her boob, and if successful, yell "Honk!" and high-five the guy next to you with your other hand.
