Contamination of modern science by politics...
Kaftan Barlast replied to Whitemithrandir's topic in Way Off-Topic
In my experience, 1 and especially number 2 are the most annoying reasons of non-progress you can find. Its less common in Sweden because we're more secularized but its still here. Its like this, a friend of mines father is senior physician of a maternity ward. He often sees tell-tale signs of inbreeding among low-educated people living in rural areas. But he cant mention it or discuss it because it would instantly bring accusations of him being a nazi. -

you wrote: And I agree with it because it applies to all forms of representative democracy, not just a socialist democracy. Thus your argument is not an argument against socialism, but an argument against representative democracy. But its very important to differentiate between Soclialism(the political system we have in sweden and many other free countries) and what Communism ended up to be in the Soviet union and China. Capitalism evolved out of feudalism and the old class society. Its a system created by the circumstance and the will of many people but that does not mean it has evolved enough to be free of "bugs". The capitalist ideal is that anyone can rise to the highest peaks of power by nothing but intelligence and hard work. This is the freedom capitalism offers. What really happens in capitalism is the creation of an economic elite(rich people), which like the nobility of old times, disctates the conditions of life for all subordinate classes- those that do not have money or the means to aquire the money needed to live their life on their own terms. Another ideal is that by free competition, it is enshured that the general public will have access to the veery best products at the most affordble prices What really occurs is that the public gets the product cheapest to manufacture with a quality as low as to just not cause too much complaints. Another injustice is that only major companies can afford to sell products on a major scale. Thus, capitalism is in reality just as flawed and just as lacking in freedom as communism. It doesnt really work but since it is the system we have and a system that benefits the people in power, we stand no chance of getting rid of it. I mean, if capitalism was fair- why has every single president of the US in the last 100 years been 1. Rich 2. White 3. Male ? I dont know if this is any real argument against your standpoints, but its a fine rant nontheless. -
Why are you on these forums?

When you're isolated in a house in the north of Sweden and your friends are further away than Moscow, you tend to spend alot of time on games and useless internet discussions. but Im moving this weekend so hopefully, we'll se much less of eachother from then on. -

I get the feeling that the real reason why his little essay is stamped as unobjective is that its content is controversial. -

You will be middle-aged before you have any chance of getting into the senate or the white house were the real positions of power are. If you for instance, wanted to american companies to provide better working conditions for their outsourced factories in southeast asia, the chances are that question will be long forgotten by then, or that things have changed so much that its simply no longer up to date. The Chinese have the same choice as we do- of either working through the system and let ourselves be ruled by it, or suffer the consequences of opposing it. In China you will be imprisoned and/or executed, in the US you get away with being declared an unreliable dissident and ostracized. -

But it is a very hard and long road to take, by the time you have managed to gain enough politcial authority to actually have a chance ov getting your agenda through, the question will be long forgotten. This is one of the basic faults of representative democracy, it just takes too long. And if you agenda only concerns a minority, chances are you wont even be heard. You actually have just about as much power as the chinese man, who is free to join the party and make his way up the ranks in order to gain political momentum. -

Parlamentarian democracy in a nutshell, just like Dakoth pointed out. We are all living in the illusion of democracy, the illusion that we have some kind of power over society and our lives, beyond deciding which party we vote for. All the systems mankind has created for itself- democracy, totalitarianism, capitalism, communism -are all severly crippled temporary solutions to a problem we may never find the real solution to. -
We were a group of three friends at artschool and we grew so close we started mixing our names up. other people started doing this too. it wasconfusing at times, I actually called people by MY name on several occasions.

Sometimes its easier to be blunt I dont deny the fact that there is a huge number of very reasonable people out there both in the party and supporting it. I just dont understand them because if you look behind every republican goverment since Nixon, they have all had some very unpleasant agendas, both obvious and hidden. (yes, its odd that I, as a Swede is so involved in this but we are a very americanized country and one side effect of it is that I know more about foreign politics than domestic) -

Allende was not some totalitarian Stalinist, he was a democratic socialist that wanted the resources of his country to be used in the gain of the people, and not to be sold out cheaply to foreign companies. To compare Allende with Stalin is like comparing Churchill and Hitler. And there is nothing, NOTHING that can ever excuse the actions of Nixons goverment and the CIA in this matter. -

Please make KOTOR 2 longer!

A well calculated delay may highten the suspense if done right. But in my world, "replay value" doesnt exist with RPGs. I have far too good memory to play them again, even years afterwards. -
Do you actually care what happens
Kaftan Barlast replied to GSpotFrenzy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I dont understand how one could NOT care what happens with the characters? I dont usually get excited over games, but Im so very curious of K2 -
Well, then it IS dear old Hk-47... Im pleased. Didnt make much sense replacing him since he is one of the only 3 chars survining unchanged with either ending.
-
I wish, but no, Skellefte
-
Didnt Akari say that it is a "HK type droid" and not actually Hk47 himself?

should there be a special lightsaber?

I liked it fine when the only lighsaber colors were blue, green and red. And the power of the weapon lay strictly in the hands of the wielder. -

What is it that you really do as an artist? Is it all things like making concept art, skins and textures? Ive been to art school, and also have looong experience of digital picture processing but how can I make really make myself useful as a 2D person?

Why even bother with all this pointless..whats it called, that thing that is used to fill up the space between action sequences? ..oh, story its called I think. Anyway it'd be alot better if we just got an hour of nonstop explosions, violence, ruckus, mutilation, nudity and explicit gore? I mean, why eat the whole sandwich when all you want is the cheese?
