  1. You need to realise that its the PUBLISHERS, not the developers who decide what games gets done. And nowadays they will always go for a franchise game or a sequel rather than invest in something new and untested because they dont want to take chances. ..and there is a million other reasons why most of the really great ideas never get done. Its not that the bussiness lacks good ideas, its that the suits wont let them through. (and a million other reasons)
  2. This is MUCH bigger than the fact that the big magazines and sites are repeating what happened in the 1980s with the big "console crash" that brought down Atari. The list of bad omens The failiure of the 360 launch to sell up to its hype (and the overheating power supply causing lots of people to return their new 360) That publishers focus on "branding" instead of financing good original games, leaving players with garbage like the new matrix game The hysterical pricing of "next generation" console games (usually 50% more than the PC release) The PS3 being delayed while Sony takes huge losses, firing over 10000 employees wordlwide. The PS3 most likely being priced like a mid-spec PC Nintendo giving up on the "spec race" and releasing a console mainly for low-powered cartoony blipblop games The backfiring "exclusives" resulting in substantially less sales than a multi-platform game while not attracting people to buy more consoles. Undererestimating the ultimate gaming device, the PC More and more publishers dying out every year, making it possible for "cheap to make crap is better than expensive quality titles" behemoths like EA to completely dictate the terms for game development as game developers will have nowhere else to go. So, there is a big chance that the "next generation" consoles will cause a meltdown rather that rejuvenate gaming. But that will actually be positive for gamers since it would force the giants(sony, ms etc.) and the publishers to rethink their strategy.
  3. It is true that German studios are notorious for producing substandard games. Most of these never reach the English-speaking world as the Publishers realise theyre not good enough to compete with american/brittish/scandinavian/japanese AAA titles.
  4. I understand your lack of enthusiasm. But if I was some pissant I wouldn't even have tried this avenue of approach. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didnt mean to sound hard but the way things look is that everyone and his grandmother has ideas. The world is swamped in ideas, especially the world of computer games. At your usual game studio, everyone from lead designer to QA man will have a whole cupboard full of ideas and plans for games and if they have that with their own employees, why would they bring in some stranger off the street? (not to mention that very few companies get to do IP's these days) If you just have ideas, then writing a novel or screenplay is probably a much better way to get to unleash them on the world
  5. Does it have proper dialouge or are your roleplaying options limited?
  6. Ideas are like apples, they grow on trees
  7. Boll means "ball" in swedish. He suffers from that same thing as Boba Fett. (Fett means fat/lard/grease in swedish)
  8. Ive been put as Lead artist on this game project so Im doing a lot of fun and les-fun work right now. This piece of landscape came out very nicely ( 100% handmade, no reference photos used )
  9. Reality randomly made me take up my quest to learn programming today as we are making some smaller games in Flash using Actionscipt. This far Ive just taken a few tutorials and really tried to understand the code(by analyzing what does what and playing around and altering it) but it feels like a suitable first step into atleast comprehending some of the basics of programming
  10. D&D is a very bastract and unrealistic system so trying to apply sense to it is like trying to loosen a bolt with a cheese grater. We're talking about a game where you can put on a ring that somehow make you a lot harder to hit without any explanation as to how its actually supposed to work.
  11. This is really arguing details but the big letters on the front of the book always say "Sagan om ringen" with "trilogin om h
  12. *quickly stabs Gabs in the back* I was only trying to prepare you for next time "
  13. My brush with PK in tabletop RPG was when I played an evil character in an otherwise pretty normal party. There was a Paladin in the group too but he tolerated me but then the GM forgot his brain at home and had the Paladin order issue a Fatwah to kill me... He ambushed me very sneakily but I got away and then he killed another PC that tried to step between us before I blasted him to kingdom come with my 1337 spells. And so, half the group lay dead. The GM later stated that "I didnt think he would actually do it!" yeah right.. like a Paladin would disobey a direct order from his Grand Master
  14. I used to buy from Webhallen but Ive since become a whore and ordered several titles from Megastore that Webhallen either didnt have in stock (like The Longest Journey) or were much cheaper
  15. If its true this is just horrible. Killing for sport. What kind of psychotic sadist would do that? or just normal people, bored and armed? but I found the first sequence quite strange, they fire several magasines against the white car but the driver just keeps on comming at them. that could have been a real attack by insurgents/terrorists/whatever that was averted.
  16. But inter-party assassination attempts are fun! ...and the only one who tried to PK in our campaign was a pesky Lawful Good <_<
  17. There are real fims and there is entertaiment. PotC is the latter and it does quite the job at it, I enjoyed it. ( And Depp ruled in Fear&Loathing )
  18. The internet makes you stupid.
  19. Yeh, Sagan om Ringen, Mus. ..and "saga" is a very nice word so i actually like the swede title better than the original because it has a more schwung.
  20. And In sweden we have no word suitable for "Lord" so the Swedish translation is called "The Tale of the Ring"
  21. When I buy an RPG, I expect roleplaying and atleast a decent story. And I cant say Fable was very creative, it was actually very bland but with the trademark Lionhead "features" that they throw in to make a boring game concept interesting but always fails. Like how they failed to hide that B&W was just a plain old repetitive RTS with some fancy thrown in for good measure. Now, nowadays you make games after tried&tested concepts and put the originality in the features because thats what fans want (and publishers sadly dont want to take any risks with new and inventive ideas). But youre supposed to work on the CORE features like story, gameplay, art design etc. and NOT on silly little peripheral details like being able to grow sideburns.
  22. Wikipedia summary of the April 8th attacks Very informative and with plenty of links to 'respectable' news media. Widely known to whom? The grunts on the ground? I seriously doubt the gunner in the tank knew who was in that particular hotel. Especially not specifically "euro journalists" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was known to just about anyone who watched CNN or any other news channel. As an example, in Sweden we had the freelance correspondant
  23. The thing during the war was that the majority of journalists were "embedded" into the coalition forces. This method is condemned by most serious journalists as severely detrimental to objectivity. The journalists in the hotel that was attacked were not embedded and it was widely known that the hotel hosted them. It could have been an accident, but its a good chance it wasnt and that thought is quite disturbing.
  24. Uhm... he already has. TWICE even. Monday November 12, 2001 their headquarters in Kabul were bombed. No casualties as the building had been evacuated. April 8, 2003 their bulding was deliberatly attacked by an A10 warthog. Atleast one reporter killed, multiple injuries. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3527570.stm Other arab news channels like Quatar News, were also bombed in Iraq and Afghanistan. And an american tank fired into a hotel killing several european journalists.
  25. The Force = Kraften Powerplant = Kraftverk What we used to call the hydroelectric powerplant in my town = Kraften ..but youre right, it does probably sound just as corny in english. Thats why Im more wrong than right
