The worst bugs of NWN2 isnt anything that has to do with the gameplay, but the constant and seemingly random corruption of more or less everything you do in the toolset. Yesterday we woke up to find that two modules and a cutscene had spontaneously self-combusted and wont load anymore.

Warren Spector on "Next Gen Storytelling"
Kaftan Barlast replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
I didnt know thered be so much theory when enrolling, but we've been fighting the good fight to push back the theoretical courses and focus on what will actually give us jobs in the future. So far we've been successful, 75% of what we do is practical. We have two programs, one for graphics and one for programming and we take game design classes(which are the ones that tend to get very theoretical) together. -

Warren Spector on "Next Gen Storytelling"
Kaftan Barlast replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
Im not talking about the usefulness of having a programmer with a PhD in Computer Engineering from MIT, and neither is Warren Spector. The thing is that the "Game Science" Warren Spector means is a purely theoretical Academic field that study games the same way an english major studies litterature. My major subject is 3D graphics, but we have to do a good portion of game theory aswell, so I have more experience in the field than Id like. Essentially what we do is write stuff like this: "The Semiotics of Time Structure in Ludic Space As a Foundation for Analysis and Design" by Professor Craig Lindley (my professor) To which John Hopson wrote an nice article called We're Not Listening: An Open Letter to Academic Game Researchers(from a game developer). unfortunantly he kind of gives in at the end and admits that academics might be useful in the future if the academics straighten up. -
This is meant for Americans, isnt it? We Swedes dont even have a Social Security fund (not exactly anyway)

Warren Spector on "Next Gen Storytelling"
Kaftan Barlast replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
As a Game Design Academic, I can say that anyone putting their hope in our direction is sure to be disapointed. Game Science is about comming up with new and more complex ways to define and describe what we already know. Its about applying ancient academic methods to analyse games, instead of comming up with a desperately needed new approach. Its about churning out enormous amounts of useless papers that no one will ever read. Its about chocking creativity with formal procedure. Academics have never and will never help anyone to make better games, that is entirely up to developers large and small. -
The most exciting thing for me is the Grany exporter that might be included in 1.06 http://nwvault.ign.com/fullstory.php?id=29125 it will allow animations, bone and rigging data to be exported into NWN2. We have a time in the MotionCapture studio this weekend and I'll see if I can squeeze in some stuff suitable for NWN2 * If you think the OC was broken, try to use the toolkit. You'll only end up with ONE corrupted module on a good day * random fact: The Kaft is a certified Mocap operator

How is this for an NWN2 campaign concept?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
I was a bit rushed yesterday, I should have included a set of questions to go with this. Ill fix that now instead [*]What potential risks and pitfalls do you see in the actual execution of this concept? [*]What is the "feature" or idea you're attracted to the most? [*]Is there any design clich -
As you may know, I study game development and design at University and we are well into our second-year projects. Me and some other fellows are putting together an NWN2 campaign and me and my authoritarian and fascistic Dane of a teacher would like to hear your opinions about the concept (There is still alot of work to be done before we can give you the first presentable part) cutscene as you are greeted by the imperial guard in the palace gardens We are producing a single-player campaign centered around political intrigue and set in a medieval paraphrase of ancient rome, where the player is the ruler of this ancient empire. The key concept is creating a gameplay experience centered around power simulation by decision-making and social interaction, as opposed to traditional strategy games where this is done by manipulating statistics. Every action will have consequences, which affect the story through the NPC's around you. The campaign is aimed towards a mature audience and does away with traditional themes and morality. The world is cruel as is the people, and well-intended actions may bring disastrous consequences, encouraging the player to think twice before he acts. We are using an influence system like that of the original campaign and KoTOR2, but this system is primarily based around factions, not individuals. To be successful, you must make strategic political decisions to balance each faction against the others. This doesnt necessarily require a gentle hand, fear is often a very effective way to keep your rule stable. As mentioned before, traditional morals and notions about good and evil have no place here. The campaign is meant to appeal to roleplayers, but also to the instinctual desire for power every human has. Or maybe just for those who would play just for the pleasure of doing something and getting a reaction in response. The whole idea is an NWN-ification of an old idea for game I had, called

Id say Rainbow Six: Vegas is the best realistic shooter you can get now. The only other game that has a similar dodge-behind-cover system is Gears of War and its definently not realistic.

Mkreku has to be the luckiest ATI user in the land, because my ATI cards give me constant pain. And which driver version is that? 7-4xp64_dd_ccc_enu_44988 We didnt found one version online that wasnt infected, that includes all of ATI's official download mirrors. Since most people run 32bit XP, its not that well known.

Im gonna wait for the 8900GTX " edit: and ATI shows off their great skills at quality control by accidentally releasing a graphics driver containing a virus... again

Sounds to me like your motherboard is broken. I had mine do the same for months until it finally gave up and stopped working alltogether.

The days where you could jusy go buy a console and be done with it are over, if the corporats think they can make money with addos, upgrades and whatnot, theyre going to do it. So you might aswell just buy a PC " The 360 v.2 is also supposed to be much quieter in operation.

Bethesda buys the Fallout IP from Interplay
Kaftan Barlast replied to aVENGER's topic in Computer and Console
Didnt Bethesda buy the Fallout IP from Interplay years ago? And $5,750,000 is an insane amount, you could develop a brand spanking new AAA Title game for that money. -
I think its been so long since we last spammed a thread down that the mods have relaxed their guard! Lets go for it!! Yaaaaargh!!

The purpouse of modifying a game should always be to improve the gameplay, if you make it too easy by cheating youre missing the point. I often "improve" the gameplay of my games though " One thing that annoys me with the patch is that theyve removed alot of the good loot you could find. Instead of finding a Duty Armour in the dark valley bandit camp you now find.. nothing special.
