It IS. For instance, ID Software's new monster engine is OpenGL based.

I think Cheney should run for President, that would be so awesome, like when the Penguin ran for mayor in Batman.

OGL3 means a whole new era of cross-platform gaming! :D Without that miserable p.o.s Vista ..and every other kind of software using 3D graphics such as 3d modeling software, CAD/CAM etc.

Do you believe the media serve the public interest?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
One thing that really disapoints me about media is that we dont get Comedy Central here. We have friggin' FoxNews but where do we go for a laugh? Where?!! Do these people have any idea how hard it is for me to have to illegally download the latest 'The Colbert Rapport' from the internet? Sometimes hours or even nearly a day after it airs. It's disgraceful, this kind of denial-of-cable-tv behaviour will not stand. -
I think Hollywood should leave our gods alone. ...after which he spends his time battling giant robots, dr doom, the latest skrull invasion, moleman and other common staples of norse mythology. I really liked the Ultimates version of him where he's just a derranged norweigan guy callen Thorleif who thinks he's the god of thunder (yes, then they had to go ruin that by making that be Loki changing reality around and Thor actually being Thor.. which was totally gay.)

Wade Wilson is awesomest. The problem with a Deadpool movie is that Im not sure it would survive hollywoodisation. Theyd cast Jim Carey as Wilson and then force a completely inane lovestory into it Will Smith definently suffer from reversed-midas touch, he effectively ruins every movie he's in. I bet he wouldnt even manage to pull off a credible performance if he so played himself "Fresh prince in Bel Air, the movie".

I think the helicopter is better than the bus

But we're talking a comicbook character so unpopular and so out of touch with the times that Marvel killed him off years ago. He's an old silver-age fossile that should ereased for good

You make games on the PC, you play them on it too. It's a game system alright. ...also, an example of what its like developing console games: -I finished all the textures for the beach level this morning. -Ah yes. Speaking of that we have to conserve more memory so you'll have to shrink em to 256x256 with 256colours -That's like 400 textures, that will take hours even with batch processing. -Yeah, and since the schedual is a bit tight right now you'll have to do it after hours. - *groan* next morning: -Did you finish the textures last night? -Yeah, why? -Because you'll have to convert them down to 128x128 with 6 colours -But then it will look like complete ****!? -Nah, we'll just put more bloom on it

Oh FFS!! Thor is one of the most retarded superheroes Marvel has ever created, what kind of sales statistics glitch caused this idea to surface? I know the Fantastic Four films were done because issue #1 of Ultimate FF sold more than Spiderman(but then plummeted like a drunk seagull), but this is just crazy. I doubt I'll even bother to download this. THOR?!!! WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?!!

My PC allows me to do everything from watch porn to build complex CGI the likes you've never seen... and I can play games on it too. I hate the idea of having to buy a friggin

Sweden puts teh smackdown on CCTV voyeurism
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Way Off-Topic
I think London has the most comprehensive system in the world. We dont have anywhere near that much linked surveillance but since you need a license to setup even the smallest video surveillance system here, this sramble-encrypt system would be installed *everywhere*, ensuring your privacy even if you're stopping by a gas station in the northern wastes of Lappland(where mkreku comes from). -
I saw this on TV so Im afraid theres no article to link to, not in English anyway. But: In order to ensure the privacy of the public, FOI (swede military defense research) has constructed a system that encrypts video feeds from CCTV systems, making detailed video visible only to the Police after obtaining permission to access the data by the District Attourney. As the vast majority of live supervision is handled by security companies and not by proper police officers, there is a need to limit the potential for abuse and violation of integrity. The way the system works is by filtering feeds from CCTV into a computer that recognises humans, another system then mosaics-out the humans filmed and sends that to the CCTV monitors while the unscrambled video is enrypted and stored. Thus, a security guard would no longer be able to see his neighbours daughter buying a pregnancy test, but he would get enough detail to see if someone is getting robbed. If the police believes a crime has been filmed, they can apply to the DA for a warrant, in order to get an encryption key making it possible for them to watch the tapes in full detail with no scrambling. This makes perfect sense if you think about the fact that CCTV photage isnt actually used to locate criminals or detect crime in realtime, but rather to help the following investigation and as evidence in court. Neat, innit? Though I suspect this system wont find much of a market in the US

I think a good flute solo beats a guitar solo any day, shame that all went away when the 80's came.

No, Im not saying I dont like branching in games. I think its lots of fun when games allow you to take multiple paths, as long as this doesnt mean that one path contains significantly less game content than the other. If you do that, then you're really just punishing the player for making choices. The question that I was asking in this thread is wether the Influence system works, or if the end result is just encouraging metagaming.

Why is the NWN2 modding scene so.... meh?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Computer and Console
Its true that corruption is less of an issue with a better and better maintained computer, and some files may run on some computers but not on others. It was worst around Patch 1.3 I think, but we still experienced corruptions with 1.6 which was when we gave up. I remember trying to copy a dialogue tree with links to nodes in other trees would cause the toolset to crash and the file to become unstable 90% of the time. It must have been quite a feat to churn out the OC using the pre-beta toolset. I know a friend of mine who works at a really dodgy studio known for making crap games with tons of bugs in them, mentioned that not even their toolset was as bad as the Nwn2 one. -
The simplest thing would be a tobacco store, wouldnt it?
-
No, thats not what Im saying at all. What Im saying is that the influence system inadvertently encourages players to metagame. Just like the example Tale brough up where you're encouraged to metagame in Kotor and JE in order to get enough 'good' or 'evil' points to get a bonus. IMO, a system that encourages metagaming is a faulty system. Especially in a game where you are supposed to be immersed into the story/setting, because metagaming draws you out into reality where it's Kaftan playing a computer game, not Bertil the Barbarian saving a dragon in distress.

Why is the NWN2 modding scene so.... meh?
Kaftan Barlast replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Computer and Console
The biggest reason why Nwn2 does not have such an active mod community is that the fantasy genre is dying out paired with the technical issues(very low fps and a never decreasing stream of bugs, not to mention a toolkit that takes 100% CPU power no matter what you were doing). What put the stick in the wheel of our mod project was the endless corruption of modules. It didnt matter if you made backups, because as there is no way to tell if a file is corrupt, by the time you notice it it will be too late. We decided to call it quits and never to touch the damn p.o.s toolset again. -
Afghan grain harvest up under 'occupation'

Not the best country for farming though, 90% of the country is a rocky desert. -
I think we must retaliate at this senseless "womyn" re-wordification and in the future append "****-" in front of everything manly. Thus, I am a "****-boy" or a "****-man", and we are all part of "****-kind". edit: Hey! Who stole my ****? (the word, not the cigar-shaped organ I use to beat women into submission) p.s to prove that the feminists are using rape statistics like gorillas would use violins, I made a simple calculation that came to the conclusion that if ROKS(previously mentioned radfem organisation) figures were right, every man, woman and child in Sweden would be raped atleast once every 8 years.

If she's like 99% of her radical peers, she was just an insecure chick who got together with a douchebag, and was subsequently caught by radical feminists when seeking comfort after leaving said douchebag and pumped full fo propaganda. In Sweden we had alot of fuss concerning womens helpcenters set up by an organisation who later was revealed to be run by radicalist feminists. The help centers were really recruitments grounds and a means by which to spread their propaganda while pretending to help abused women. These people gather up vulnerable and gullible people(women in this case) to fill their ranks, same methods used by neo-nazis and religious cults.

The blog appears to be closed to the public, how did you get in? The screencap is hillarious though ...and these peole are insane. To me, believing in the existance of the "patriarchy" is exactly like beliving in the world zionist conspiracy. nutters.
