But according to Kreia , they never did. No , the SW character and fiction mean nothing if the reality of the RPG rules don't reflect it.Any outside sources are completely meaningless in an RPG since you know only what your character is supposed to know. Maybe at the time of the Mandalorian wars he was. But after his "accident" he clearly was not. Much like Darth Vader after he got segmented. He may well be.Lukes power isnt measured on the same scale. It's made quite clear that the Jedi and Sith that came before KOTOR were much more powerful than those currently running around. -
the dialogue was also much more organic and the romance more believable. there were still some one-liners like "no disintegrations!" or "impressive...most impressive" but nothing overtly cheesy that I can recall. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ESB is a very character focused movie. And because the characters are well written it shines through. There is an amazing ammount of character development (perhaps the most of any of the movies) and plot development. And while it still has the special effect sequences. You never feel that the rest of the movie is just an excuse to get to the next one.
-
Well New Hope gets a pass because it was.. Well New :D ESB gets a pass because it's a fine movie and not just because it's Star Wars. ROTJ gets one for the set pieces and growth of the characters. Where as the characters in the OT grew. In the new films, there wasnt really that feeling. Anakin was a whiney cry baby who despite his claimed intellect was about a bright as a spent lightbulb. The "romance" was just super cringe inducing. I agree. But GL needs to realise that if you want Star Wars to appeal to adults, in any way but nostalgia. He's not the guy who can deliver that. If not for the nostalgia and the "completion" factor. I wouldnt have tortured myself sitting through EP I and II. Although III was better, it still wasnt what I would call a great movie.
-
EP III looks better than it is, because it's surrounded by such awfulness. I feel kinda sorry for any actor who has to pull off the kind of crap GL writes. As Harrison Ford said "You can write this crap. But you can't say it". (or words to that effect). For a major motion picture (and not a B movie) EPII was the most teeth grindingly bad film I think I've had to sit through.

Drakengard II just arrived. So, as long as it works, that's what I'm playing.

Tis true we talked about Anakin. However you can find parellels here between Anakin and Revan. Both underwent a trauma which apparently reduced their powers to shadow of thier former level (although in the case of Anakin, really nothing in the movies indicates that power anyway). KOTOR and the D20 system go hand in hand until LA says otherwise. Personally I'm more interested in something that works than a particular system. But many people will fight to the death to keep the D20. -

Well obviously the scene was written to allow a certain outcome. In the WEG book they have Anakin hanging onto the bridge with his one remaining hand and Obi Wan trying to pull him up. Then Anakin falls into the lava below and Obi Wan never see's him land. Obi Wan dosnt cut his legs off . They burn up because he lands on a platform but his legs go over the side into the lava. -

Now your talking about personality (with the exception of Carth) which is a whole different thing. Those are reflected in the dialogue and the actions those characters take. When I talk about rules I am talking about rules I am talking about how they create the reality of the setting. Such as how lethal a lightsaber is. Or how much Revan sucks or does not depening on how you build him. Although never does he live up to the hype. A better question would be how do you know that Canderous was ruthless. But lets say Carth (since it's based on a skill) tells you he's a great pilot but then Carths piloting skill is 1. Carths clearly not a great pilot. In the case of T-3 you must have needed one of those R2 type probes. Although I'm not making excuses for lame plot devices. When rules and hype clash rules always win.Because rules dictate the reality of everything in an RPG from how deadly a weapon is, to whether or not you can die from falling off a building. So you have people telling you how great Revan was. But whatever is left after the "accident" dosnt back that up at all. Therefore Revan is no longer that great. Heres another thing to muse since you brought up Kreias explanation of what happened in KOTOR. If the Jedi never actually rewrote his memory. Then where did all these abilities disapear to ? -
Not exactly a new idea. Meridian had active DM's which came in three flavours. Because a Meridian server was quite small, 150-180 on average. It meant the DM's were far more noticable than they would be on a server of 1000-2000. Your DM wages bill would be pretty big if you wanted the same sort of coverage as Meridian had.

There in lies the problem. Since as we already concluded there are many different Revans as players (in subtle ways). Since his stats were at the players choosing I expect you had more than a few with the IQ of turnip :D Since he was injured though his mental faculties could be completely changed. (From strategic genius to turnip) since they are talking about the general of the war and not what was left after he was "killed" on the ship. Well once everyone knew who he was that was somewhat reflected in game by how people reacted to you. Obi Wan didnt want to kill him.seems pretty clear, even at the end he still didnt either force push him into the lava , or just simply take off his head as he jumped, which is a much easier stroke. So not toying with him perhaps, but lacking the commitement for the killing blow. -
I'm sure you could fight from horseback in daggerfall.

I don't think message boards count. Show me some aethiest extremists. Attacking religion on the basis of it being a made up fairy tale. After all people who follow the current religions have no problem believing that the Greek or Viking pantheon were nothing more than a fairy tale. That's not extemism. Especially when someone is trying to use some sort of religious mandate as a fact. -

No they don't. Aethism dosn't work that way. What extreme views ? It's the other religions that go beating up on each other. It's not an extreme view that religion has served it's purpose. It would be an extreme view to kill anyone who believes in a higher being. As I said most aethiests are quite happy to let people worship whatever they like. What ticks them off is when the religious element comes along and says "God says you can't do that". -

I don't know of any aethiests who advocate killing religious people. Does anyone ? Most are only bothered by religion when it comes into politics. Since it's quite daft that you should be able to dictate terms without proof of any kind. -

Aethism isnt a religion. A religion has a set of principles and dictates. Aethists just don't believe in higher powers. -
