Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners Of The Earth
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to metadigital's topic in Computer and Console
Blurbs from the Xbox version which has been out for a while. Call of Cthulhu -- Dark Corners of the Earth is a first-person horror game that combines intense action and adventure elements. You will draw upon your skills in exploration, investigation, and combat while faced with the seemingly impossible task of battling evil incarnate. Other than fighting, you have the ability to interact freely with characters and the gaming environment. To increase the sense of immersion, there is no interface or 'HUD' on screen at any time during normal gameplay. Instead, more intuitive methods are available for you to assess your condition, ammunition levels, and other relevant information. The combat within the game is extremely realistic, with a detailed damage and healing system that breaks down the healing process into conditions and treatments - rather than having the typical FPS 'health packs' lying around everywhere. The game also allows you to stamp your own style onto the proceedings via an advanced AI system that can react to your method of play. Cthulhu enemies can roam freely around the environment - opening doors and tracking you down single-handedly or in groups. To stay alive you won't just be able to outshoot them, you'll need to outthink them as well. You will have to keep your mental health in check as you are exposed to the increasingly shocking images of the Cthulhu Mythos. You will need to combat enemies using the environment, powerful and evil artifacts, Alien technology, or by fighting with weapons that are completely authentic for the period. Set during the 1920s, Call of Cthulhu is based on the Cthulhu Mythos of HP Lovecraft, an American writer of fantasy and horror. Lovecraft's stories tell of unthinkable evil, psychic possession, and mythical worlds and his work has profoundly influenced numerous fantasy and science fiction writers, including Stephen King and Anne Rice. The technology powering Call of Cthulhu has provided Headfirst with the means to present an incredibly detailed and accurate depiction of the sights and sounds of this unique 1920's New England setting. A diverse range of cutting edge special effects is utilized to ensure both unprecedented levels of realism and an exact portrayal of your mental degredation. Features: Diverse array of levels from quaint towns to alien locations, including Deep One City Dynamic Sanity system resulting in hallucinations, panic attacks, vertigo, paranoia, and more! Incredibly detailed real-time graphics with atmospheric lighting and dynamic shadows Intelligent gameplay involving puzzle solving as well as combat and exploration 1920s weaponry and vehicles as well as evil artifacts and alien technology Lovecraft's famous monsters and locations Gamespot gave it an 8.3 (great) Xbox version again http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/adventure/cal...x.html?q=cthulu -
Oblivion is supposed to be a lot smaller than Morrowind

That is very bad news. I was hoping he would only be a consultant for the tv shows. It's all over then. Star Wars is dead. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> according to interviews, he's gonna do season 1 and then pass it along. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OMG! He will kill the chick when it's in the egg! he should ONLY direct 1-2 episodes once in a blue moon. NOTHING MORE! This is just making me sad. So... Sad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well he can either die. Or get a new hobby which makes him interested only in the money rather than direct involvement. Otherwise your stuck with him.

Some Jedi prophecy. Well you could say by reducing the number of Jedi to the same as the number of Sith. Although I guarentee it's not what the Jedi had in mind when they read the thing Don't they have all that other EU crap though with Jedi running around all over the place? -
Tinkers around with them. The skitts for the current run of figures are funny.

I think he just likes doing it. He probably realises he's not the best. But since he dosnt really have to worry about how succesful they are now, well he can pretty much do what he likes.
-
I wonder if thats why he left everything to other people rather than doing it himself.
-
A lot of people went off the idea of god controlling the weather after the Tsunami. Some do though , and in those cases It is kinda funny.

Plenty of that down there. Theres a certain kind of irony in it.

Meybe they ate the delivery van too it still hasnt shown up.

New NWN 2 Article @ Computer Gaming mag
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Rhomal's topic in Computer and Console
Perhaps more along the lines of a water elemental. -
Sorry to hear that. It didnt look that good. Kind of arcadey and it said in the blurb they removed most of the puzzles

Meridian used to be like that .People would hang out in Familiars practicing spells so it became like a one stop shop for mends and the like. Of course it may have also had something to do with it being the only safe place in the city as well. Nice to hear though, since taverns were practically empty when I was playing EQ except for people standing by the barrels brewing.

Yep. Paint it yellow and it's the sort of thing you would expect Nintendo to ship with a Konga game I'd prefer the same design as the PS2 (with some rounded off corners) since it was the PS and PS2 pads being almost identical which made switch so easy.

Why is that ? I just (as in 10 minutes ago) finished Drakengard. Part II should be arriving this morning. Still have four unseen endings in the first one. The regular ending is really sad You don't own a DS do you ? I was wondering what the new Resi Evil was like.

In a game thats exactly what we are talking about since everything in a game is measured. As I said you have fallen for the hype , where as the game rules reflect the reality. Kind of like the whole chosen one thing in EPIII. Powerful , sure. But he still got his arse kicked by Obi Wan. The chosen one hype. The reality a charcoal briquette missing a couple of limbs. -

Of course I am. Thats where the reality of an RPG world comes from, the rules. If I jump off 100 ft cliff but there are no falling rules. Then the character won't take any damage. Likewise is someone tells me a dragon is a monster to be feared (but the rules make it an easy kill) then the dragon is an easy kill regardless of what anyone says. Ditto with Revan, Kreia can say what she likes about Revan being pure power. But unless the rules reflect it, well it's just not true. Anything else, well thats just hype. -
I'm very used to the PS2 one since it's the one I use most often It's also easy to go into the GC controller as well. But the Xbox one always requires some re-adustment for the trigger positions. I don't find is as comfortable for long term use either. I'm a bit worried about the new PS2 controller although the button positions are similiar it's pretty alien looking. Although that may not be the final design.

I'm not. If you wanted a game to make the fanbois gush you just make Revan a PC and stick a 99 level cap in. I'm hoping Obsidian want a little more than that though (if they do KOTOR III that is). Stick in a happy ever after with Bastila for bonus points. -

Holding back on levels causes weird problems according to what I read on the Bioware boards a while ago. I suppose not. But since the alternative is to have no say in the creation at all (like autolevel up) it's understandable why it works that way. Technically it makes no sense that you have any say in anyones creation but your own. But it's one of those gameplay tradeoffs. -

Well since all characters are created by the same rule set the power level is relative. Could Revan with a particular build wipe out Dark Jedi with a wave of his hand ? Yep. But then so could Jolee or any of the others depending on how they were developed. It's one thing to fall for the hype machine. But that still needs to be reflected by the rules system , which are after all the measure of the "reality" of an RPG. If not for the save feature 99% of the Revan's out there would be nothing more than carbon on the galaxy floor. Don't the levels in KOTOR depend on your level after all they come unleveled soley so you have some say in how they are created. -

I suscribe to that! That would make me extremely disappointed! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dosnt matter. Agreement isnt important. Is Revan strong ? The hype says yes. But the truth is, it's all in the build of the characters. It's a simple matter to make Bastilla stronger. And Jolee would have had an easier time with Malak in my game since I focused on my warrior side (which meant I had to kill Malak every time he recharged since I couldnt do anything to that tanks). I recall some people having to plant mines to beat Malak, so their Revan couldnt be called strong by any measure. And such is the problem when you are dealing with variables. At least with Drizzt there is a set of stats which are Drizzt. With Revan and the Exile, there are merely pieces which fit together to make a whole. And as such many many combinations. When it comes to the Exile, there is firmer ground. The Exile has powers the others do not. But again that dosnt make them stronger than anyone else if you play around with the builds. -
There was a good program on National Geographic yesterday called Dragon Quest. It explored the various dragon myths. And a paleantologist built a dragon from a collection of dinosaur bones which was really interesting. Lots of chinese people still believe in and say they see dragons. Bit like a lot of people in the west see angels I suppose. I'm not really sure what Tolkiens contribution to shaping dragons was...
-
Dragons crop up in many mythologies. Although the Chinese would never think of slaying a Dragon. The D&D dragon is more akin to those found in western mythologies. Like the one George is supposed to have slain. Orcs accoriding to the article were inspired by the grendel monster (although they are not aquatic in origin the name is)

The war stopped because the leader was dead and the base of production destroyed. Although according to the DS ending Revan then went and took over. Since KOTOR II had to have a fixed start point. Whatever you did in KOTOR had the same outcome. There are many instances where you can use the DS for the "greater good". Rarely will my characters end up at either extreme. But there are also acts in the games which you can't justify in that way. You could of course claim it's the darkside controlling your actions if you feel so inclined. The purpose wasnt to "win" The purpose was to highlight the difficulty that introducing all these variables into KOTOR III would involved. Architects words sum it up nicely.
