It's probably easier if you look up some of the overland pictures. Once you see a few , you will understand how it's different from BG.
You dont select a destination as much as you fly or drive to it. (although some of them have an autopilot feature).
How about FFXI?
Who ever get's it in there mind to makes 12 sequels
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
FFXI is an MMPORG. A very good one by all accounts but not something I'm into anymore.
Final Fantasy is a franchise. The only sequel is X-2 (which is the follow up to X not FFXII confusing isnt it);.
Not really because Baldurs gate was a series of maps linked by a static world map.
The world map in the FF games I'm talking about is a big open map which wraps around (like flying around the world) and it's all done in real time.
FFX and FFX-2 would be very similiar to how Baldurs gate works.
Very similiar although more locations to choose from.
It's not really false freedom since KOTOR required that you visit each planet anyway it was a case of which order. FF is more about finding things.
Pre scaling issues (FFX) there was a lot more of the morrowind type freedom. Although since you were in a very fast mode of transport you could be across the world in under a minute.
Sounds like Oblivion...

No , different kind of freedom. By going where you want I mean map locations(since on of peoples major complaints about JRPGs are linearity).
Not huge open expanses of nothingness ala Morrowind etc.
Single player. Totally revamped combat system. Huge ammount of freedom to go where ever you like. Needless to say it's been on my preorder list for like ever
oh yes release date :">

80 days till release should be pretty accurate.
Low fantasy is more down to earth stuff.
Neq the Sword, Conan, Wolf in Shadow etc.
So I guess the high/low scale is how far removed from "reality" it is.
I never did finish it. Big game so couldnt finish it over the rental period.
Drakengard II is excellent. Improves over the first one in every area. In fact I dont think I've seen a game that has shown so much improvement between original and sequel.
It's much more of an RPG this time around and it's a lot less obscure when it comes to additional characters.
Theres another reason why the OT gets an easier ride too. I think someone may have already mentioned it. Because we now take special effects totally for granted (every big budget film has them) movies can't really be carried by the effects anymore like they could.
