  3. How did you manage that ? I'm level 15/16 when arriving on the first planet after Telos. You must have missed out on huge ammounts of the game.
  4. Neither is numbers 1's really. Not that many bad guys in JRPGs , most just seem to have a higher purpose that would end up killing a lot of people. IV's bad guy is pretty dispicable though.
  5. What was wrong with them? The Jedi robes looked just like the movie ones. Something to do with the colours on some of them?
  6. And this is from Volourn: (the italics are mine, of course) --- I won't hijack that thread, but Volourn brought up a point there that piqued my interest. Although I agree with him technically, (more than one character of course constitutes a "party") in spirit I cannot. This is because of one simple point which I submit is pretty difficult to rebut: Current technological restrictions cannot possibly create totally satisfactory AI for joinable NPCs. OK, you can have that lame menu system a la NWN ("stay close/ use missile weapons/ use buffing spells" etc) but it really isn't the same, is it? A quick perusal of even the most drooling fanboy forums will find commonality between, say, Fallout fans and NWN fans: that AI-controlled NPCs are a pain in the butt. Especially in combat, which is a big part of CRPGs. OTOH, plenty of people find the utter and complete tactical control of, say, BG2 equally frustrating. Micromanaging the inventory, skills, spells (etc) of one 25th level character is pretty tough, but six? I should come clean here: personally I love to be able to have utter control of the aforementioned issues, but I was originally a wargamer and that's where I'm coming from. If I want, say, Minsc, to suicidally engage the enemy from a cetain direction whilst drinking 'X' potion whilst using 'Y' High Level Ability then I want to unambiguously enjoy that perogative. I don't want some lowest common denominator AI to make that decision for me, thankyou very much. I think that the compromise should come in at another level, which was oft-discussed during the development of Jefferson/ BG3; that of character allegiance/ development and loyalty. In BG2 there were certain crunch points where NPCs would leave your party based on decisions you made; that is fine by me as long as I also got to make the important decisions tactically. What do you all think? Do you reckon that existing implementation of NPC AI is going in the right direction? Is the apparent drift away from full-party control in modern CRPGs evidence of dumbing down or an elegant shift from tiresome micromanagement? Enquiring minds need to know. Cheers MC <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I used to think full AI control for companions was a great idea. Then I played NwN.As BG already handled the RP side of companions better than NwN did anyway there is no roleplaying advantage unless your one of those people who just cant play more than one character.
  7. I'll watch the movies and I have a HUGE collection from my childhood but thats the extent of my SW fandom. I play loads of RPGs because I like stories but want something more active than reading a book.
  8. Animal welfare wasnt a big deal back then. Chimps usually catch a monkey by the legs and then just tear the limbs off. Probably with as much ease as you would peel a banana. If not easier...
  9. Then the whole thing makes even less sense. You copy alien ship designs which are superior, then choose an inferior design for your flagship.. If the Star Forge can copy anything and the whole training aspect dosnt matter (if it did then there would be no early alien ships) then there is little point copying an inferior design.
  10. Your no longer a general but he dosnt know the events that have happened in the interim. So I saw it more of being taken by suprise than being stupid. Kind of like someone stops you in the street and talks to you, and your not sure if they know you and you just cant place them, or they are a crackpot. Yes but there are lots of clues in game which lead you to doubt that. Depending on the order of the planets like I said but the one on Keshyyyk is blindingly obvious. There are only two outcomes. One your a clone. Two your the same guy who accessed the computer previously. The clone theory dosnt really work in the timeline so the there is only one result left. Thats all in character evidence nothing to do with knowing anything in advance.(Actually didnt even have a manual when I rented the game and knew nothing at all about it). Thats not bad in itself though what is bad is that you have no choice but to act dumb until the game deceides otherwise. If you have played NwN and are familiar with the letter quest you will know exactly what I mean.

  12. What history would that be? Some planets are more revealing than others Kreshyyyk is like a big neon sign. For a while I thought I might have been a clone because the idea of being mind wiped just seemed lame.

  14. I'd be more likely to buy unseen if Obsidian do it. I'm kinda dreading going back to a Bioware story after KOTORII. I'm interested in JE but more from a different gameplay angle (it's much more hands on than previous Bio RPGs). Considering I played KOTORII 4 times I got way more value out of it than many "complete" games which I only played once (KOTORI being one of those).

  16. Yes if you wanted a generic game it would. If all you are doing is changing minor details the game will invariably end up generic.Even those minor elements in KOTORII, the various holo's that were dependent on Attons questions, each on of those was effort that could have gone elsewhere if the character had a solid identity. Also what makes my approach and yours different is that in mine the protagonist is strongly tied to the first two characters, cant get a much stronger bond than as their kid can you? This means that even if the player is new and dosnt know anything about the previous games, they will still get it through the character.The link will allow you to play visions without anyone being able to go WTF (once they cotton on to who they are of course). The closure of player and character go hand in hand. I reckon as long as you let someone choose the identity of one , it will work for most people. I could be wrong of course but it's not like we will find out Writing 4 characters for a fanfic would be the same as the KOTOR blue/male KOTOR blue/female and KOTOR red/male and KOTOR red/female. That is four seperate games each game writen based on how the character turned out (except now instead of 4 versions it's 16 with the addition of a new variable).
  17. Thats the point of a game roleplaying you are supposed to add the feelings and the motivations. You should give JRPGs a try, you get totally fleshed out characters , but because they have memories they do their own dialogue.

  19. Revan was so/so , the only interest I had in them was how they reflected on my character. How did my character come to terms with the things that they had done. What I absolutely loathed about it was how you had to play dumb until the plot caught up. By planet II I not only knew what had happened but I had a ton of evidence as well and at that point I wanted to grill Bastila or Return to Dantooine and demand an explanation. The fact that you could do neither of those things until the plot would allow it just enhanced the feeling of being railroaded. KOTOR II's background was clear enough to work around. In any character generation there is always a fixed point and 10 years of blank space left a lot to play around with. While there were one or two moments where I went eh ? it was still much less defined than KOTOR. Which you can consider a good thing or a bad thing , depending on how you like your games.

  21. At least it makes it clearer where the error occured. Since there is no mention of changing ships. It's likely that they drew one concept and used it for the cutscenes without reaslising that you couldnt have an alien ship before finding the star forge. As the CGI and the game is done at different times (and by different people).
  22. It may have been a storyline that was in the back of the mind as the writing went on. Then it may have become a case of oh no we cant do that it's just too Luke Skywalker (then again going for an EP V feel who knows). The big problem with it as a part of the plot is its rather big and it would be odd to restrict it to only the male exile. It really depends at what point the alternate NPC's were introduced I suppose. It's certainly a subplot you could make work without too much difficulty. Especially when you consider what happened to Sion and Nihilus and that Kreia displays a similiar sort of advanced aging to EP.
