  1. A forum you say? Brilliant idea, but what do we put it on?
  2. Well I hope they don't go Dr. Seus on us and start inventing Kervuvles and Snerzes and Snaups.
  3. Not sure how this works, but I did upgrade my account, so if that qualifies me for a special title I'm all for it. TITLE: Golden Sage of the Obsidian Order.
  4. One thing I find that makes a big difference for me in games is monster variety. For example, one thing that I find realy disappointing about Skyrim is the slim selection of monsthers, there are basically just bandits, skeletons, vampires, dragons, trolls, animals, and a couple other minor ones that you hardly ever see like hagravens. I realy hope that PE can come up with a fun and varied selection of monster types. So, how do people feel about Greek Mythological monster types? I realize that Pegasus would probably be game-breaking if they could be tamed, but it could be made part of the lore of the game that they simply can not be tamed under any circumstance.
  5. Maybe its just me but I find this hilariously candid. Not that what you're saying is funny, just that you're actually saying it. I tip my hat to you sir.
  6. I would love for once to have a game blessedly free of those transmutated humans that Victorian writers have cursed literature with. I'd be fine with that.
  7. That is a very interesting twist. Building on your idea: When someone kills a particularly evil animal who has a particularly strong soul, the animal soul has a chance to possess the person as a sort of revenge which results in lycanthropy, but it would be extremely rare of course.
  8. I would be really surprised if they did anything in the twilight style of vampires/werewolves. The only reason I could see to so something twilightish would be to cater to that particular fan-base, but it seems highly unlikely that the twilight fanbase has any sort of cross over with Obsidian fans, so there would be no reason to catter to them.
  9. A one month beta? Uhhh... I would think it would be more like 2 months at the least, possibly 3.
  10. Does anyone know if these types of creatures are confirmed to be in game? How do people feel about them if they are in the game?
  11. To me, a monk is 100% about specialization, they focus on a very narrow set of behaviors, and in exchange for their focus those behaviors become honed to the point of heroic proportion. I would prefer to see that Monks get a list of 20 specialized options, but they start with only chosing 1 of them, and gain 1 more skill every 8 levels. Which means by level 45 they would only have 5 of these specialized skills, whereas by that time other classes might have 20 or more special skills. One option might be sword fighting, if a Monk took this option then they would be one of the best sword fighters in the entire kingdom, even better than fighter of the same level, however the trade off would be that the Monk would have no other skills, no armor skills, no versatility, they wouldn't even know how to use non-sword weapons. The fighter on the other hand would not be as deadly with the sword, but would know how to use many other weapons, and would also be good at using armor, and also have a whole other bag full of tricks. Another example might be bludgeoning defense, this would make the monk highly resistant to all bludgeoning damage, it would be nearly impossible to knock this Monk unconscious with a fist, or even a club. Of course there would be no such thing as piercing defense, or slashing defense, because lets face it the monk is still made of meat. Another option might be disease resistance, or poison resistance, or fast movement, or silent movement... Again, these options would be far more powerful options than what is available to other classs, so the monk would get far fewer of them, and also aquire these options much more slowly than other classes. This would make the Monk a powerful end game class, but quite weak at the beginning. tl;dr: If I had my way, I would make the Monk the most powerful, but least versitile class in the game. They would start out extremely weak, but end up extremely powerful, but even at end game they would not be very versitile, because Monks are about specialization, focus, and dedication. However, I fully agree that Monks should not be restricted to only hand-to-hand martial arts, they should be able to choose any weapon they want, but they would only ever use that one type of weapon, that is their focus, they wouldn't even know how to use any other weapon.
  12. I don't see any problem with this. For an Atheist it could be as simple as the Atheist doesn't believe that the god(s) are worthy of being worshiped, or that they are realy all they are said to be. After all "god" is just a label. This would amount to denying, not their existence, but their godliness. Saying that the Gods are not really Gods, amounts to saying that real Gods do not exist.
  13. uh... No judgement. But having an affair should be a viable option, even if it means that the affair is discovered and you end up losing half your gold.
  14. I think that is a matter of opinion really. It obviously sounds silly to think of a story like Lord of the Rings being traslated a Cyberpunk setting because LOTR has many details which are intrinsic to the setting itself, Hobbits of the Shire, Orcs of Mordor, Kings, and Elven Queens, etc. However, the over-arching themes of LOTR can be, and have been, adapted and retold many times in many settings. Everyone writes differently, my technique is to think about the themes first. I ask myself what type of story I want to tell, once I have decided that, then I think of possible branches, twists, and subplots that would make such a story interesting. Finally I develop a rough outline of who the main characters will be, then I place them into a situation where I think my story will naturally evolve. It's rather fun. In regards to what Monte Carlo wrote about me not wanting to do world building, that simply isn't true. If I had inifinite free time, nothing would make me happier, but I don't.
  15. I am aware that one of the tiered rewards is a novella written by one of the PE developers. I am wondering who I might talk to about jumping on the band wagon and writing a novella myself. Would it be possible for me to sell a Novella, say on Amazon, that is based in the PE setting? Would I need some sort of rights, or nods, from Obsidian? Would Obsidian value this work? Perhaps would they even help me to promote it, since it would be content that players would enjoy and might add to the richness of the setting? These are just things I'm wondering about. I have a rough idea for a novel that I've been working out in my head and on paper for a while, which I was planning to start soon and publish myself through Amazon, and I think it would add a lot of appeal to my story if it were set in the PE universe, and also I think that it might even make writing the story easier to have an original IP world to base it from with out having to develop this world myself. Anyone know who I might contact to find out more about this?
  16. Did you ever play Suikoden or NWN2? (Just two examples) No, I played the original NWN for a couple years, but then moved onto WOW for a few years, then I got into lotro for about 4 years, but lately I've been into a combination of Skyrim and random indie crap.
  17. A tarasque would be pretty cool, but the only problem is that it would be so insanely difficult that only a tiny fraction of players would probably ever be good enough to beat it, and implementing it well would take a lot of developer time and energy, so you'd have a situation where a ton of time and energy are being spent on something the majority will just never ever see.....
  18. I was really confused by the whole strong hold idea, is it meant to be something like an uber-playerhouse?
  19. After just reading the thread on potions I started to think about food and food quality, and I'm just wondering if other people have thought about this, or if they think this might be an interesting idea. Personally I'm not in favor of potions to restore health, I am in favor of potions that might help fight off poison and disease because those are things that we do have in real life. But something else that we have in real life is food, and the quality of food makes a difference. If all you eat is gruel (watery poridge) then you're not going to be very healthy/energetic/disease-resistant. However, if you eat the good stuff, then you do have more energy, and more reistant to disease. Is "food quality" a mechanic that people would find interesting in the game? Or is this something that is just too much micro-managy for people. PS. I hope that there is food in the game, and I do hope that running out of food and starving in the wilderness is an option, but I have no idea if that is actually something that will exist in the game or not. If that does exist, then I think "food quality" might be an interesting factor to add into the equasion.
  20. I personally hope that there are no health restore points at all. Zero. There should be anti-venom potion which can help you to recover if you are poisoned. Which is something that exists in real life. There should also be an anti-disease potion that helps you recover if you get some disease. Which is something that sort of exists in real life as well. There should also be drugs and stimulants, which are also something that exists in real life, but always come with a trade-off. Then, there just needs to be rest and food. It might be interesting if different qualities of food had different impacts upon your character. If all you can afford is gruel, and that is all you eat, then you aren't going to be very healthy and aren't going to recover very quickly, but if you can afford a better quality ration, then you'll have more energy, recover faster, and be generally more resistant to disease.
  21. Cool, so it seems more than 10-1 that people are not in favor of repeatable quests, with the exception that it seems almost everyone who posted here things that in some certain situations, if done correctly, it would be okay. Thats how I feel, mostly no, but in rare situations if done in a cool and believable way, then maybe. Thanks for the feedback.
  22. I'm talking about certain quests (eg. gather 20 coconuts) that you can complete over and over again (eg. once per day) for a reward. For a game that could potentially have 10000 quest events (random guess) I think it is going to be quite a challenge for the developers to create 10000 completely unique quests without a considerable percentage of them becoming more or less repetitious. If 500 of those unique quests were shaved off and dumped into a 20 quests that could be repeated once per cycle, then that would mean the developers would have to create 480 less quests, and could use that time to make the remaining 9500 quests just that much better, and it might also potentially make the remaining 9500 quests slightly less repetitious. Of course that would mean that we would need to run those 20 repeatable quests about 25 times each (20*25=500) which doesn't exactly sound fun. Repeatable quests are a tool, with both pro's and con's. Should they be in this game, or not?
  23. Actually I had problems registering on the forum, but they were resolved by a mod within about 24 hours. I gotta say, that impressed me given the current situation.
