Crickets of Eternity
illathid replied to ryukenden's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)

Yeah, pre-buffing is not an necessary and sufficient condition of pre-battle planning. Scouting, weapon & gear selection, positioning, party composition, and other I'm probably missing all fall under the pre-battle planning umbrella. So it's false to say by not adding pre-buffing PoE somehow doesn't have pre-battle planning. While it could be that pre-battle planning is diminished without pre-buffing, I don't think there are enough variety in the encounters found in the BB to really know.

[392] Enemy casters need to be more threatening
illathid replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Does the AI make use of abilities granted from gear? You could give enemy mages defensive buffs on gear. To keep it from being too good for the PC you could make the abilities 1/day (as all per day abilities are effectively per encounter for enemies). Just a thought. -
The PE IE Mod Thread - Draggable UI Now Available!
illathid replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I've found Bethesda games to have many more and much worse bugs than Obsidian games, but they get a pass on it for some reason. -
Critical Damage Balancing/ mitigation....
illathid replied to tdphys's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yeah, I dont really see any reason to make any of damage bonuses multiplicative. Plus if you did have some as multiplicative and some as additive you'd need to label them differently, it would be misleading if an additive modifier and a multiplicative modifier were labeled the same way. -
Any word on when more zones will be available to test?

There is no free lunch, or bug free game, even for Nintendo. -
Critical Damage Balancing/ mitigation....
illathid replied to tdphys's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
So (Weapon Damage*Might)*(Crit+Fine+Sneak Attack+etc.)-DR = Total Damage I'm not sure why you want one thing to get multiplied and not the others. It seems like it makes the calculation harder to manage in your head. -
Critical Damage Balancing/ mitigation....
illathid replied to tdphys's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Well I know I'd prefer for damage bonuses to be additive rather than multiplicative. And I've thought so for quite some time (remember saying so way back when rogue balance was being discussed). -
I'm an Inquisitor. Ever heard of undercover cops? What if my intention was to investigate both groups in order to find out enough about them to bring them both down? What are you talking about? You hunt down evil spellcasters in addition to standard palading things.Infiltrating Thief guilds is not a job for a guy that cannot lie. Didn't you say you played PnP? Maybe you should read what Inquisitors do. They are not police or detectives and certainly not undercover agents. That is what Harpers do. Yeah, I think the idea that the Inquisitor infiltrates is.. odd, too. A Paladin Inquisitor is very much the kind that would be more liable to throw in a molotov ****tail into the building and start cutting the sinners down as they try to run outside. That a pretty narrow view of the different Class Kits in my opinion. An Inquisitor in BG2 is just a paladin who specializes in fighteing evil magic. I could see them infiltrating a thieves guild just as easily as any other paladin. Your mileage may vary.

As a fellow BG2 paladin player, I get a lot of your complaints. The game works best when you've already know most of the content, which is kinda ****ty design. The place I think choice and consequences really shows up is in the Underdark with the Drow. There's multiple ways to complete the main quest there, and it lets you play out your alignment conserns approriatly (in my opinion at least).

Wait, what? I neeeeeeeeed this. Amaze. Maybe I have ****ty taste but I absolutely loved Fallout 3. Actually this was my first Fallout; I then played Fallout 1 and 2 because of it. If there's gonna be a Fallout 4 AND it's made by Obsidian I'm just gonna have to quit my job and play non-stop for a year. Well it's pretty baseless speculation, but it's at least a reasonable reason why there's not been anyword about Fallout 4 yet. Just don't get your hopes up, Fallout 4 will most likely just be Skyrim with a green tint and robots.
-
Eh... I've read more than a few posts over on r/fallout that hope the reason Fallout 4 isn't announced yet is because Bethesda is negotiating with Obsidian to make it.

Yeah, I agree FNV was much better than WL2 in pretty much every category that matters. About the only thing WL2 has on FNV was the isometric view, and even that was a pain to deal with (as it wasn't a fixed camera).

No Thrown Weapons?
illathid replied to Magnificate's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Eh... It's easy for me to abstract always having ammo. Harder for me to abstract always having a weapon you litteraly throw away as you use it. But that's just me. -
Wizard spells
illathid replied to commissar7's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Eh... I like the wizard now. They aren't the end all and be all of casters anymore. Specialized spellcaster classes actually have a point now, instead of being outclassed by Batman Wizards. -
No Thrown Weapons?
illathid replied to Magnificate's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Eh, they could handwave that by calling them "returning" weapons. Yeah, but then every throwing weapon in the game would be magical which is also weird. -
Critical Damage Balancing/ mitigation....
illathid replied to tdphys's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
And low damage high attack weapons that profit most from high critical chance would be useless with this. I can't comment on the merits of the idea. I was just saying the math would be different than it is now. -
Critical Damage Balancing/ mitigation....
illathid replied to tdphys's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Eh... pretty sure the math would be different. Compare a crit for 15 vs DR 10 before the multiplier in each scenario. Vanilla: (15*1.5)-10=12.5 Propossed system: (15-10)*1.5=7.5 -
The only issue I have with special spells for a diety, or special spell lists, is that it doesn't address the problem of "dead" levels. You still wouldn't be making a choice upon reaching the spell level in question.

No Thrown Weapons?
illathid replied to Magnificate's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm guessing it's related to the fact there's no ammunition in the game. Since you don't have stacks of arrows, it'd be weird to have stacks of daggers. And it would be just as weird if you never ran out of daggers. -
Wizard spells
illathid replied to commissar7's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Pretty sure they wanted to make sure the Wizard didn't intrude on the design space reserved for other spell casters. Chanters and Ciphers being to two notable examples. -
About the "dead" levels when you get new spells. What if they had something like domain spells from D&D 3e/3.5e? Give you a choice of two spells based on your God, pick one. They could even take the spells from other spell lists like they did in D&D.
