  1. I think it is more of the challenge that someone wants to undertake once they beat it. For me at least. So, say I already beat it 3 or 4 times with varying party sizes. So I want to test myself. I setup a challenge to see just how good I am. It is why people like to do other challenges for games to limit themselves in some fashion that overcoming it all brings a sense of accomplishment for it. Some do it for other reasons, but for me I just like the challenge faced with a limit I impose on myself (outside of what the game already has for challenges). Will it be impossible to do? Will I be able to do it knowing the systems the game uses? What do I need to do to overcome this hurdle of a single player run through with no companions? A test of knowledge, skills, and perseverance. If it turns out that I can't do it, oh well. If I can, great. Like mentioned, it is a single-player RPG that is party based. But that party based experience isn't forced. Yes, it is built around the premise of having a party, but nothing that says, "You MUST have a party." Just, "If you don't play with a party we won't stop you, but we aren't building it around that playstyle."
  2. May I ask why? A waste of time and resources if you ask me. I was making a joke about it. I get tired of those types of achievements personally. I like achievements where you have to do something that is outside the scope of normally playing the game anyways. The 'You killed your first monster" type achievements are dumb fluff in my opinion.
  3. Man, that is a long list of names. All that extra mullah helped though! :D
  4. AFAIK there are no achievements in the game. Wha... But I want my "You completed the tutorial!" achievement! Anyways, I don't doubt that someone would find a way to complete this with just 1 person in their party anyways.
  5. Don't take this the wrong way, or that I am criticizing your point, but how does this differ from classes like a warrior being dependent on a sword, or an archer being dependent on their bow/crossbow? Is it the feeling of the mage/sorcerer not being able to do magic without something? Just wondering, and again, not disputing or criticizing your point. Edit: I guess to add to that, I like to picture a tome as something that is built up over time for my character, and each time he uses a spell it actually takes away a part of their memory of how to use it. So they keep the tome on hand to help 'refresh' their memory of how to use it, as well as to help keep track of everything they learnt. That is just my reasoning for it and how I play with it. I guess it could be annoying to some to have to rely on an object, but most classes seem to do that.
  6. I wouldn't mind if the merchant's life changes based on how much and how you use him as a merchant. Buy a lot of stuff? Maybe he moves and his stall becomes fancier, or he opens a shop. Could open quest lines through him. Sell a lot of stuff, maybe he becomes a pauper. Of course, that is wishful thinking, and not a lot of details in explaining it.
  7. I'd imagine that support is slammed right now. There were a lot of problems that people are probably contacting them about: Pledge not showing up. Pledges from Paypal and KS not being able to be combined. (This was my problem that I am waiting for a response to.) Pledge tier descriptions not matching and people wanting to know why. Information for pledge item forms not allowing people to fill them out. The errors that people had when trying to complete their order. Etc., etc., etc... I'll wait. Probably won't get much support until next week as problems are fixed.
  8. There is a thread to post in right under this one for that. It is stickied.
  9. I doubt they are trying to fund 'a ton of projects'. They most likely just want to do something similar to what Wasteland 2 and Torment inXile did. Look at how well they did for not having one game released, but getting funding for a second one. Now, I would have to see the pitch for what they plan on doing, but you never know how well it could work out. Just not so close to the holiday season. February on would be a good time. Better to have another project in the works that they can put whatever staff on that aren't doing anything then firing those staff personnel because they had no new project in the works.
  10. Depends on the severity of the phobia. It isn't as simple as some people seem to think to just 'get over' it or to try and work through it. Some might have the phobia, but can play a game. Others have severe reactions to even the smallest spider, even if they might know that it couldn't do anything to them. I say give them a way to get past it.
  11. I think it was pretty much stated that this will never be a console release. Period. While it seems like it would be an easy port, you have to take into consideration that the team would have to completely re-work some systems because of the different control structure used between a PC and a PS4 or Xbox One. Maybe if they had millions more in funding it might be possible, but I still don't think this type of game would port well to a console. There are threads about this if you search the forums.
  12. The addons are just that, addons. If you select your tier after you confirm your pledge amount, and the tier should come up in the range of what you pledged. IE. you pledged $140, so you select that tier. Unfortunately the tier you pledged for on KS isn't automatically linked. And if you don't want any addons you can just skip that section. The section after the addons is the cart where you confirm the tier you pledged for. Then you finalize your pledge after that, and enter in any information required like your name and address. If anything is required after that you fill in the information. So things like t-shirt size and whatnot should be filled in after you enter in your address and name if it is required. This is what I got from reading what other people have done.
  13. Alright. Can I have that axe though? I need something shar... I mean shiny in my house. And ignore my stupidity. Can't believe I missed the KS badge you have... *Smacks head*
  14. Some tiers are missing rewards on the backer site. Some have been reported already as missing and they are looking into fixing them. If you find some that are missing and not reported please mention them.
  15. Don't know how long you have been around, so sorry if you already know this. The original $8 was just to help increase the funding through KS. So it's cool if you don't want to get it now. I will take that axe though.

  17. Until I see the estimate on how much the stretch goal will cost, is it planned to be released as part of the game, paid DLC, free DLC to backers, time estimate on it, and more information in general on what they plan on doing, I am going with no.
  18. If it's not showing you what you'd ideally like to do because of multiple pledges, yeah, you'll need to contact support so they can change one of your pledges to get into the right upgrade path. You can do automatically if you have a 'Needs More Info' link on any of your pledges. If not, just contact them at support@obsidian.net or via the contact form. Yeah, I didn't think about that when the 'Need more information' was available at the Manage My Pledges screen. I choose the 'donation' option. Whoops. I just contacted them about that, and hopefully they can work it out. Originally I thought it was asking what the extra $8 was for, which was for the OOoE, but if it was asking what the whole pledge was for I messed up. Maybe a good thing to do would be to have some sort of (?) option that further explains and maybe gives an example of what each choice means. Edit: Also, the system probably should still recognize that I am elidgible for an upgraded tier.. It shows "You've Paid 1,008.00" and "Balance Remaining 1,008.00". Also, maybe there could be a way to program into the system the ability to go back and change what the 'Needs More Info' selection is.
  19. Wait, there was an Obsidian Order option? Damn, I didn't see that. I just chose the free donation... I wonder if it matters if we didn't chose it? Well, technically, isn't the point of the order that we donate at least $8 extra? Yeah, I just saw that it offers a badge too. Good thing I haven't completed the whole process as I am waiting to hear back about combining my pledge to a higher tier as it won't let me right now.
  20. Yeah, I messed up and accidentally marked my $8 as a donation... Didn't notice the Obsidian Order thing. Luckily I had to contact support anyways, so I will bring that up once they respond to my first problem (which was there was no way to upgrade my order to a higher tier because I had to split my tier between Paypal and KS).
  21. Yeah, I did the same thing, overlooked the Order option in my excitement. Wait, there was an Obsidian Order option? Damn, I didn't see that. I just chose the free donation... I wonder if it matters if we didn't chose it?
  22. Just wondering. It was mentioned during the KS campaign about combining a pledge made through KS and Paypal (some people had to split payment) to get to a higher tier. The reason was because of only Amazon payment, and some, like me, had to split the payment. I did, but there is no option to combine both payments into a higher tier (unless I somehow missed this). I am only getting an option to select 2 different tiers based on the payment amount. Was wondering if there was a way, besides contacting support, to do this?
  23. Not quite all games. "Buys a pc game, gets home, opens box, sees code to download off of companies DRM downloader."
