  1. What is your @global Keyrock? Anyway, been doing PvP in Defiance. I had heard it was skill based. Yeah right... To a large extent it is who's cloaking runs out first and has someone with an orange, fully modded shotgun behind them: one shot - dead. Guess I'll try to farm the remaining kills I need for the achievement and then ignore it. Having fun with the group content so far. Nothing challenging, but fun.
  2. Argh. Why did I look? I like warhammer, but that fake germanic always makes me cringe.

I should know enough people in that game that can help you out. *shrug* And you can always try and find me at @melkathi I am not on much, but all three Cryptic MMOs share a chat server, allowing for cross-game chatting.
  4. You can solo their other MMOs very easily. It shouldn't be a problem with this one.
  5. You actually have to research AAA in the R&D department and it becomes a fourth choice in game size. But apparently you need to have a few specialists to handle that kind of game, otherwise it will tank So I'm trying to get research points to at least traina couple of people up for Story lead, Graphics lead and possibly a third category.
  6. Have you got your R&D department yet? I just went into full research mode. Hope I'll be able to bring out an AAA title before Y30 where the score is calculated.
  7. I found the gameplay extremly boring. To a point where it started to make the other little things bother me: the game takes itself very seriously... a bit like a Manowar song - fun enough when you don't pay attention to the lyrics. So since I didn't have fun for the actual playing, realizing that I found the story to be simply silly didn't help

  9. I tried to make a ninja dojo simulation for the iphone. Got an average review score of 1.75
  10. Did you meet them as a Bioware representative to convince them to do voice acting for the Tron RPG Bioware is working on? (one can dream )
  11. I have had to go completly comercial lately... DanceBear Revolution. A casual game for the whole family At least it sold 2.5 mil units and made 35.5 mil in sales while costing 5mil to make. With an average review score of 8.5 it peaked at rank 3 in the sales charts. It still is second in profit for me, behind Bears of Might (the sequel of Bears of Magic) which made a profit of 33.8mil at rank 5. Best ranks were Quest for More Rum (or Quest for Rum 3 (though it retconned Quest for Rum 2)) my only rank 1. But Bearplane (ranked 2 in the charts) will always hold a special place in the studio's history: the game that catapulted me out of the garrage by earning 2.4 mil while costing 74k. (same cost as Quest for Rum which made 326k).

  13. Try adventure/Sci for Everyone on PC. Prioritise Story and dialogue, add world design and sound and some graphics and don't worry too much about engine and AI. Make it the best 2D graphics your engine can handle and give it mouse support. You should be creating the equivalent of Space Quest. Actually if you make that combo with adventure/Pirate, you may get a 9.something rating for Monkey Island (it's what I did. Though I called it Quest for Rum). (and I hired a second person very fast. So I had one designer, one tech and myself. That allowed for better splitting of responsibilities).
  14. Most kickstarters, when really close to a goal but missing it by a smidgen, seem to throw it in anyway (and probably hope that they'll be able to cover the difference with pre-orders etc). This was the first time that I saw a project stating that they would continue running pledges on paypall for a specific duration exactly so as to fund another tier. The time limit actually does make sense though, as more content and features will have to be included in the planning of the project and can't just be pasted on later.
  15. I hated Darksiders and felt that for me, even the ridiculously low price was wasted money. I somehow never got around to try L.A. Noire. Deus Ex I had a lot of fun with. The writting could have been a bit better, but I really enjoyed the gameplay. Especially the dialogue / social upgrades for the character I found very well implemented. It's DLC is also rather good. One of the better DLC I have seen.

  17. Out of curiosity I had a look at the sight. They have sexualized carapace armour? Seemed to me that women either wore slutty dresses or had body art instead of armour... Something that skimpy and that tight fitting can't be anything "worn" it must be painted onto or grafted directly into the skin...
  18. And that's why we had the most fun in the campaign that the players started with amnesia. Had them quickly roll a series of dice, noted down the results and we got to playing right away and a lot of things were discovered and fleshed out while playing. The abstract nature of stats did not really matter in that situation (gave them their stats at the end of th introductory session) and char generation was done faster than Chitika Fastpaws would have made them.
  19. It's a bit of a unique situation based on that specific adventure (which I'd strongly suggest looking into finding an online copy of. Great adventure well worth playing once). It's, I guess, a zombie apocalypse scenario, so the players are not trying to kill every enemy. They try to survive and in the end kill the necromancer controlling the undead. The GM keeps track of everything that has happened throughout the adventure, assigns Heroism Scores for the various parts, keeps track how much time the PCs wasted and for every confrontation rolls dice based on the PC performance to see how the npcs are faring. And of course everything is done with comprehensive, easy to use check boxes. So when it comes down to it, every confrontation, while playing you only concentrate on the "heroic", imediate action of the PCs and then you give them a minute to rest, refill their drinks, while you quickly roll the results of the aftermath.

  22. This allowed them to encourage people to keep funding. I wonder how many people still pledge money through paypal once a game is officially funded. Or if the amounds pledged are significant enough to allow for real planning of extra development. At the same time, I think they wanted to keep their options open. If they managed to do it, great. If they didn't, they hadn't promised anything.
