  1. You're right, and I just watched the movie yesterday. Sam Spade does get a little rough with"Ruth Wonderly", though. Granted, she's playing him and he knows it. On the other hand, that doesn't make her any different than Cairo and The Fat Man.
  2. I'm spamming this thread so much that you'd think that I work for Hormel Foods. Another day another Titan defeated, this time it's the Bishop of the Cíte: Much like the last Titan, there are 3 phases. Much like the last Titan, I defeated it on the second try. Defeating this Titan gave me the grappling hook ability, letting me Spiderman to previously unreachable locations: I also saved Anne Louis Henri de La Fare in the process:
  3. Yeah, that umm... It's a movie from 1941, what are you gonna do? Stuff like that unfortunately was commonplace in movies all the way through the 60s and maybe even 70s. Sean Connery smacks the **** out of women in James Bond movies. I can look past those things and write them off as products of their time, they don't ruin the movie for me. Of course, I don't have the perspective of a woman. I'm glad that a guy smacking around a woman in movies and shows these days is seen as vile rather than cool and macho.
  4. The Maltese Falcon (1941) - Humphrey "Don't" Bogart "That Joint" as the quintessential hardboiled gumshoe Samuel Spade. This is perhaps the best known detective mystery from the golden age of film noir and has been paid homage to, copied, and parodied countless times in the 80 years since its release. If you like movies with fast talking and where nobody is on the level then this is going to be right up your alley. This movie has double crosses, triple crosses, quadruple... So many crosses! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  5. Having played through a decent chunk of Steelrising I can share some impressions: * The combat feels really good, easily the best of any Spiders game. I've written this before, but this game very much plays like Bloodborne. The controls are maybe not quite as crisp and refined as Bloodborne, but they are still responsive and combat is fun. There are times when an aggressive approach is optimal and times when it pays to play defensively, it's very important to know your enemies' movesets and tells. You can absolutely get killed by regular mooks if you get sloppy. * The enemy variety is impressive. I've encountered at least a dozen different enemies so far and that's not counting bosses. It's not just reskins either, the enemies have completely different movesets. * Sound design is top notch with wonderful period appropriate music that stays far in the background when you are exploring. During combat the music comes to the forefront, especially during boss battles. Voice acting is well done and I appreciate how Aegis sounds unnatural when she speaks while everyone else speaks like a normal human. The metallic sounding clanging and grinding of gears of the automatons is spot on for that steampunk feel. * Graphical fidelity does not quite reach AAA, but it's relatively close. In particular, lighting effects are fantastic. Animations look good and appropriately robotic. Little touches like the gears in Aegis' back glowing when stamina drops low (stamina takes the form of Aegis overheating when she's "tired") are appreciated * I can't speak for any other platform, but the game runs like a champ on xXxBOxXx. I've encountered one graphical glitch which I've written about previously, and nothing else; no crashes, no frame stuttering, it's been rock solid. Side note: You can walk through shallow water but deep water is instant death.
  6. I defeated my first true boss of the game, The Selenite of the Louvre: These are known as Titans and defeating them grants you a power, air dash in this case. There are 3 phases to the battle. In phase 2 she sets her shield on fire and rapid fires electric projectiles at you from time to time. In phase 3 she electrifies her sickle and becomes much more aggressive. I defeated her on my second try. As an aside, this game has a multitude of difficulty options to tailor the experience to suit your taste. I haven't touched them and am playing on the default developer intended difficulty. Beating the titan also had me saving the life of Jean Sylvain Bailly. In real life he got the guillotine eventually, but since this is alternative history, who knows?
  7. Through my sources, I have procured hidden camera footage of a recent Dallas Cowboys practice:
  8. My favorite thing in the game is finding new clothing, not so much for the stats (those are nice too), but for fashion purposes: My previous hat made me look super mysterious during conversations, though: The game features famous figures from the French Revolution, like Robespierre: The 4th boss, Unstable Statuary Ram: Like the last 2 bosses, this chump was super slow and thus quite easy, you can kite him for days. I mean, his attacks did look like they would do huge amounts of damage; it doesn't mean anything if they never land.
  9. The secret is to take shots of Polish vodka while you're eating it. It has to be Polish vodka, though, none of that inferior vodka from other parts of the world.
  10. I beat Steelrising's second and third (mini?) bosses, the Unstable Lightning Ram: And the Unstable Forger: Both of them were quite easy, the Unstable Lancer was significantly harder than either of his brethren that followed, largely because he was fast. These 2 chumps were slow as molasses. Come to think of it, if the French had spent more time and resources on QA, they could have had stable versions.
  11. I took a trip over to Frugal MacDoogal to get a jump on some Christmas shopping. The Napoleon liqueur is for mom, the tequila is for sis, the cognac is for dad, and the Żubrówka is for me (and it ain't making it till Christmas).
  12. If looks could kill: Holy smokes this outfit is stylish!
  13. Who owns the Silmarillion IP? I'm assuming it's Tolkien's family. I'd watch a Silmarillion show, they could get a ****ton of seasons out of that too.
  14. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work well with m&kb. This doesn't play like any previous Spiders game, though. This very much plays like Bloodborne. My favored weapon combination so far is halberd and fans. Most of the time I just stick with the halberd, since it has massive reach and I can often dispatch automatons without them ever getting close enough to reach me. Against certain enemies, though, I like to switch to the fans and do a flurry of light attacks. The fans have a high immobilization stat and you can fill up the immobilization bar on an enemy quickly with them. Once immobilized, an enemy is open to a critical attack, this is where I switch to the halberd for maximum damage.
  15. Sadly, this game lacks a photo mode, thus I am forced to resort to standard screenshots for my robot waifu's fashion shoots
  16. I offered this chap some cake but he didn't respond; must not be hungry: That bicorn is stylish as ****.
  17. How does it play with m&kb? With the Xbox controller it plays great. If anyone here has this on PS5, does it have any fancy schmancy haptic feedback? I've never held a PS5 controller, but I hear the haptic feedback is really cool, but obviously the game devs have to implement it for it to mean anything. So far the xXxBOxXx experience has been smooth (I've become a dirty, disgusting console peasant ever since I got the black mini-fridge looking box from Microsoft). Gameplay is smooth, the game looks good, and even the texture pop-in, while present, isn't too obnoxious. I've encountered one graphical glitch. When you kill an automaton they fall over onto the ground, but once in a blue moon their corpse will just freeze standing, kind of slumped forward. It's not game breaking and it rarely happens, but I do hope they fix it. I wonder if that's across all ports or Xbox specific? Other than that 1 glitch I have no complaints. Hopefully they polish up the PC port soon.
  18. I beat the first boss in Steelrising, or mini-boss, I guess, the Unstable Lancer. It took me a few corpse runs to figure out the strategy, after that I whooped it's metallic ass.
  19. It's most definitely a soulslike. Edit: From my limited gameplay so far I'd say Bloodborne is the closest comparison.
  20. The Steelrising file size is 26.8 GB on xXxBOxXx, for what it's worth. Runs buttery smooth on Favor Framerate mode. I haven't tried the other graphical modes, nor do I intend to. The only time I'll pick a prettier graphics mode over high framerate mode is in a turn-based game. I imagine the PC version has a whole suite of graphical options. I went with the soldier class to start, which starts you off with a halberd. The heavy attack with the halberd has my robot waifu lunge forward after a bit of wind up, letting me hit enemies from rather far away. Apparently she stores the halberd inside her arm when not in use. Not sure how she fits a polearm in there, but I'm not going to argue with her. The target lock-on works wonderfully when it's just 1 enemy, not a fan of it when facing a group.
  21. She still might in the afterlife. I'll show myself out.
  22. My robot waifu: The queen and her servant sending me on a mission to let the people of Paris eat cake: These vestals serve as the game's bonfires: Side note: On xXxBOxXx this game has 3 graphics quality settings: Favor framerate, favor graphics, and favor resolution. I am, of course, playing on the favor framerate setting. There is some texture pop-in, but other than that it looks decent enough so far.
