I hear you but I would still prefer a weapon ( those pig men need to die), it can still be very scary and tense with a weapon. For example what about striking a balance between a FPS and a game like Amnesia where you have a weapon but only 12 bullets? Hence what I wrote about ammunition being critical to this type of thing working well: That's part of what made old school Resident Evil games work, the constant worry of "crap, I'm almost out of ammo".
-
If it makes you feel better, you're not missing out on anything.

I was referring to the first Amnesia. A Machine For Pigs is less about hiding and cowering, trying desperately not to get discovered while your mind ****s with you, and more about "holy ****, what kind of ****ed up **** has been going on here?".

It's true, but weapons detract from that. Part of what makes Amnesia so great at keeping constant tension is the fact that you're completely helpless in a fight. All you can do is run away and hide, you have no means of fighting back. As soon as you put some kind of weapon in the player's hands (and, to the best of my knowledge, there will be weapons) part of that tension is eased. You can still have the tension of the unseen horror (a xenomorph in this case) hunting you that can appear anywhere and any time (making the motion tracker your best friend, as it should be), like in Amnesia, but putting a gun in your hand takes away some of the fear. On the other hand, if they make the enemy AI smart enough (a big if), and the xenomorphs quick enough, and limit your ammo enough, it could make for some great frantic battles where the xenomorph is hopping around from floor to ceiling at lightning speed and you're trying to shoot it when you only have 5 bullets left. They absolutely have to get the amount of ammo you can find in the game right for this to work. If ammo is plentiful then that will pretty much destroy all the fear and tension in the game completely.

This does look pretty good. However, never forget.

Isn't this happening already since like a million years? I still remember "Morrwind in Oblivion"-Mods... but actually have never seen any being released. /Edit: the video looks p.cool. Let's see if something comes out of it. Morrowind in Oblivion never really saw the light of day, not in anything resembling a completed form, anyway. Hopefully this project fares better.

Cavs trade Bynum & picks for Luol Deng Smart move for the Bulls. Deng is a good player, but this season is lost and they need to think about the future. Also, they need to prepare for the chance that Rose will never be the same. Hopefully he comes back and plays as good as he did before the injuries and stays healthy, but they need to plan for worst case scenario.

Min-maxing characters in Wizardry can definitely get out of control (it doesn't help that what works in Wiz 6 doesn't necessarily work exactly the same in Wiz 7). If you're not interested in min-maxing but just want viable characters then you can disregard most of that and just stick with a couple rules of thumb: 1) You likely want to switch to a caster class with each character at some point to learn some spells 2) For late game hybrid classes rule You're going to die. A lot. Especially early on. It's pretty much unavoidable. Obviously, save often.

Speaking of gaming on phones/tablets/mobile: nVidia introduces Tegra K1 /whistles Dang, 192 full fledged Kepler CUDA cores? That's a ridiculously powerful mobile chip. I still think one day Tegra will be powering a Steam Machine. It could probably do it now if you slapped like 2 or 3 of these together, though I doubt Steam has the necessary ARM support in place (yet?). Well, there's already Final Fantasy 1-5, with 6 coming soon.

Did a lot of skipping, but finally wound up with: 1) The Witcher 3 2) Pillars of Eternity 3) Broken Age 4) Dark Souls 2 5) MGS V Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 2, and Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall would factor in if they were included in the vote.- 45 replies

It will almost certainly be a fun and entertaining game, but not particularly meaningful. Neither of these teams will be playing truly meaningful games until #April and #May and, perhaps for one of them, #June. Still, should be exciting.

Westbrook is already off crutches, walking around, and shooting free-throws. No word on when he'll return, but it's definitely an encouraging sign. In the meantime, the Thunder are plodding along, winning again tonight behind a huge scoring night from Reggie Jackson.

That was a fun game in Green Bay. I love those games where it's so cold that you can see the players' breath, even in the far away wide-angle shots (so long as I'm watching from home and don't have to be out there in the cold).

Looks like the Chargers' strategy of staying conservative and allowing Andy Dalton to implode worked to perfection.

Thunder were down almost the entire game last night but prevailed when Durant put the team on his back and scored 23 points in the 4th (48 total). While giving the young guys responsibility is important, Durant will have to do this sort of thing once in a while in Russ's absence to avoid prolonged losing streaks as they go through growing pains.

I hope the games today are as exciting as yesterday's games. That was an awesome day of footbaw.

SQUEE! I named him Darryl. Edit: The Astrologer's Scarf rocks!

No hurry on trading AD. Also,

It's co-developed by Valve and Hidden Path. As for who did the bulk of the development, I don't know.

That's where we differ. I like the power differences between characters rather than having everybody on some artificial equal playing field, even if I was playing the weaker character. Of course, that's me now. Me 15 years ago would be pissed to play the significantly weaker character. To each their own. This is why I like to let my players decide if I'm GMing. I don't assume they think like I do.
