  1. I've got 99 features in PoE to spend resources on, but loading screens ain't one...
  2. I think it has been stated that there won't be conflicts between NPCs that's severe enough that one of them leaves. Though I think NPCs can leave if you make decisions that goes against what they believe in. I liked the NPC conflicts in the BG-series but I think we have too few NPCs in PoE to have this feature implemented.
  3. Send a pm if you don't wish others to comment on what you write.
  4. Because there would be a vocal minroity crapping all over the video. Which would be a shame.
  5. Nah, I hijacked the thread so I am to blame. I'll give my pro's and con's instead. Pro Focus on story and interaction with NPCs. The story book sequences. No (or very little) VO. Saves a lot of resources that can go into more important parts of the game. I like what they have done with the classes. No dump stats and such. It sounds good in theory at the very least. Will be interesting to try it out. The character portraits. A small detail but adds a lot of IE-feeling. Con No romance. Bottomless stash. It would have been okay if it was only accessible at the stronghold, but having access to it when camping out in the woods is just wrong. Part of the IE-games fun was making hard decisions of what to keep and what to toss away. No modding tools. It's not a super big deal, but I think it would have increased chances for someone creating romances for the game. Biting off a bit more than they can chew. I'm a bit worried they have promised too much. So much that the game won't live up to a lot of people's expectations, including my own. There is also a lot of nostalgia involved when it comes to the IE-games and it's hard to trump that. 6 more months (or so).
  6. Did David Gaider write any of the romances in BG2? I know Luke Kristjansen was the main writer of the Jaheira romance.
  7. For that very reason, I don't think there will be NPCs who leaves because of another NPC in the party. NPCs can leave because of your choices though.
  8. Exactly my point. You weren't forced to be a wizard just as you weren't forced to romance anyone. So they didn't talk as much as you'd like if you didn't do a romance? Well that is unfortunate of course but that's what games are like. We want more of some parts and less of others.
  9. I would hazard a guess that he was talking about Biowares (who did BG) romance in DA:O, if you chose to ignore romance you would have lost a good chunk of xp, quest, items etc. Romances are like side quest. Some you do and some you don't. If loot and xp is that important to you, you better jump into the pool. It's what I have to do with the horrible Cult of the unseeing eye-quest everytime I play BG2. I also find it odd to compare DA:O to PoE since it's not the same type of game and Obsidian have not got the same view on romances as BioWare have. I still find it odd to list 'no romances' as a pro.
  10. Why would you fear that? Were romances ever forced upon you in the old IE games or in Obsidian's previous games? It's like saying I'm happy I'm not forced to play a wizard.
  11. Just a note here: PoE is not an adventure game. Obsidian has made no bones about the fact that it is very much a combat-centric RPG. And while there's going to be tons of scripted, skill based, problems to solve, Combat is still the giant elephant in the room. You will not be "free" from it. So the lingering issue remains: You're halfway down the Mega dungeon. You've killed scores of monsters to get there, and you'll have to kill many, many more to get to the end.... But you're not getting EXP for doing so. Don't know about you, but that's a jarring notion for me. Especially since it's not just the Mega dungeon. Josh has repeatedly stated that Exploration is going to be a focus of this game. So imagine hiking through Wilderness areas, caves, and other dungeons. Unless Loot is your sole, driving motivator, you're going to tire of engaging in literally unrewarded combat after several hours of exploring the wilds. It is not impossible that they award xp at certain points mid-dungeon. I feel like you are picturing the worst possible scenario.
  12. You are feeding my tin foil thoughts, Sensuki. I like it. *edit* This could also explain why they avoid answering which classes will be covered by the NPCs. Either because they are not sure how many NPCs they will end up with or because they don't want to reveal the extra NPCs yet.
  13. Interesting wording from Brandon in that Angry Joe interview. Being asked how many joinable NPCs there are in the game he answers: "There are eight that we have announced." Ambigous answer but probably just me wishing for some extra secret NPCs.
  14. But the backers aren't the only people making items. Obsidian are doing items too and I assume they will make items that are lacking. I'm quite sure there will be fancy swords.
  15. The picture is named "portrait female human". So one would assume it's a portrait.
  16. A very nice update. I like all the class info we have got so far. I think you are on the right track with all the classes. So much in fact, it is hard to chose which class to start with. At first I was going with paladin, but since Pallegina is paladin, I will pick something else. It would be great to know the classes of all the joinable NPCs before the game is released. I would like to pick a class that isn't covered by the joinable NPCs. And the portrait is just awesome. Is it a portrait of a NPC or a portrait we can chose for our PC?
  17. A very informative and clear update. I like these "general" updates. Please do throw them in every now and then.
  18. I am impressed. Jenas_Lance (or Jêna's lance as it's really called) is the correct answer! IndiraLightfoot can now be renamed Sherlock Holmes. To continue this trivia. What weapon, in a previous DnD CRPG, is Jêna's lance a tribute to?
  19. The Disappointer was my absolute favourite. Second and third for me are Hermits hat and Cats whisper. Dandy hat of the diseased yak is the funniest one though. It sticks out among the others, of which many are quite generic for a fantasy setting (nothing less to be expected of course, and I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing).
  20. I assumed it was The Disappointer since you pointed it out. Care to share the name? It's not the Disappointer nor the Yak hat. I can share the name of the item, however I will hold it off for a while, to see if any spontaneous comment is made about it.
  21. Haha! Now that you mention it. Oh, well. My item is on the list. Hope no one takes a stab at its name. Would be embarrasing if a lot of people found it horrible.
  22. I read it as Prey Marker first. Not sure that would be better, but Prey Maker sounds odd. Perhaps it will make sense when we read the backstory?
