  1. Kill it with fire! Principiis obsta!
  2. The rating of the game has nothing to do with the romance writing. And I still disagree about it being juvenile. Bioware's newer games are much, much more juvenile than BG2's writing ever was tbh. You could (to some extend) call the romance writing of BG2 "overcomplicated" or "dramatized" and you could also call it "annoying" if you don't like that kind of "problems driven writing". But that doesn't make it juvenile. Maybe we have different views on what "juvenile" and "written for teenagers" mean though. How about explaining why exactly you think romance writing in BG2 is juvenile?
  3. I just don't like your method trying to make something up by some weird comparisons. Let's just agree to disagree about the "BG2 is written for teenagers" issue.
  4. BG2 and Scooby Doo have nothing in common. I personally don't think that Jaheira was annoying. She was actually written quite well (and not for teenagers). And she didn't have a "broken personality". She was just griefing which is something completely different. Hm, I think we should go back to topic anyway.
  5. Regardless of age demographics, it doesn't mean they couldn't have written likeable characters. Characters shouldn't be likeable but realistic. Writing likeable characters is exactly what you want to do IF you write for teenagers.
  6. You forgot Jaheira... @Sensuki No, it wasn't.
  7. I want an Obsidian soccer jersey and a Pillars of Eternity hoodie.
  8. So, my assessment of what is known so far. That might change quite drastically if more information gets public. Pros Infinity Engine style/graphics/feeling UI looks great deep choice&consequence with interesting reputation system balanced party gameplay with RTwP combat original setting with a huge scope Cons limited amount of real companions classes are maybe too restricted probably no party chat/interaction shadows don't react to the position of the sun still no gameplay shown yet...
  9. Nice interview. Biggest surprise was that Brandon Adler looks completely different than I've imagined before...
  10. Hm, tbh I'm neither interested in fighters nor in barbarians. IIRC I didn't have any of them in my favorite BG2 party. But maybe I have to in PoE since classes seem to be even more specialised than in D&D. Thanks for the update but I'm still waiting for that gameplay footage.
  11. This. I haven't lost my faith in the game I have lost some of my faith (and patience tbh) in Obsidian in being a really fan-and-backer-friendly developer. I'm still very much looking forward to Pillars of Eternity but I probably won't back any future project of Obsidian on kickstarter with "big money" anymore. Again, this "spoiler argument" brought up by Obsidian makes absolutely no sense. Why spoilering something to journalists and denying backers the option to decide for themselves whether they want to see the stuff and "get spoilt" or not? And why is a pure combat encounter spoiling anything? I just don't get it why they can't show us something yet and we have to have another few weeks... That's how I currently feel. Maybe I feel much better again once I've seen the game in action. Who knows...
  12. I want them to show me SOME gameplay, an actual proof that the game is on the way to what they promised us in the first place. I think as backers we could demand more than screenshots, art design and write-ups. The vertical slice was finished months ago and still we haven't seen even a single minute of gameplay so far. They told us that they don't want to show us anything because of spoilers. I say bull****. Why can't we see just a small combat encounter for one or two minutes? How could that include serious spoilers? And even if: kickstarter was also about shared development. It's up to each individual if one want to spoil something for themselves or take part in alpha/beta or whatever. There is no reason to hide stuff from backers because of spoilers or "unfinished polish". Of course it's unpolished. It's in alpha stage. Every sane backer/person knows that. So why do they share stuff with the press for weeks now but not with us backers? There is no good reason for that other than staying true to their traditional closed development rules. That's disappointing. I want to take part in this and see how far they actually are in development. I want to see it with my own eyes. Everyone could write something up, that's nice but nothing profound. Gameplay is profound. Actual and real game material. I never said though that I want to "see the whole game before its released." That's an unsustainable accusation...
  13. I'm already looking forward to the Pillars of Eternity interview done by AngryJoe at E3. I'm curious if has asked whether the game is like Diablo or not.... Just kidding, since he mostly asked question directly posted by his followers (and PoE fans/backers) I guess the questions were rather good.
  14. Redbull has been quite long time in esports which is probably lead that their general interest towards games has grown. And their articles, previews and reviews are surprisingly good, often better than the ones from established gaming mass-media.
  15. Gaming is all about emotions for me... I can't be reasonable and calm when it comes to my favorite games. Too passionate about that stuff for whatever reason....
  16. True but both showed gameplay stuff at (almost) the same time to the backers/people and not weeks later... Nope Snarky, I know. Anyway, believe what you want. The complaint is valid. The constant agressivness and commentary is not. (I mean I think they got it without you repeating the same thing on twitter and the forums) *LOL, you don't have to follow my tweets you know... Posting about the issue in two threads which isn't off-topic is pretty valid if you ask me. Other people constantly praise Obsidian for whatever they do in way more threads. I'm perhaps a bit rude because the issue really angers me and really disappoints me. As I said, I'm a direct and honest person. I say it out loud if I like something or not and I have imo every right to do so. A forum is no automatic-praising-machine... You on the opposite have no right to judge on me and my posting habits here. *off-topic ends
  17. True but both showed gameplay stuff at (almost) the same time to the backers/people and not weeks later...just sayin...
  18. Where is this gameplay footage you show around at E3??? Ah, "couple of weeks" delayed. Great. Is the stuff too weak to be shown to us? Tweets about it from E3 people indicate the oppsite so I don't get why you don't just show it to us at least a little bit later than to the press people... Maybe I'm just too spoilt by Larian Studios and Cloud Imperium, who knows...
  19. Just pure brutal honesty. I'm a direct person.
  20. Please do spout that hipster BS somewhere else, you'll find it's not really taken to kindly here. They were pretty straight-forward. They said they wanted to make an original IP, and that this was one of their only options to do so. You can feel "betrayed" all you want, but it really just sounds like you spent a lot of money and now you are realizing you shouldn't have. Again: you just have buyer's remorse. Obsidian are some of the most dedicated people in this industry. And how, pray tell, would they have done that? They run their business the way they want. If you thought you were funding some sort of revolution... I'd go back to dreaming of a glorious industry crash that will surely bring world peace. Do you also think that if you're good and pure of heart you'll get everything you want just because? That you can get any job you want just because? By the way, what do you think the Kickstarter was if not marketing? What do you call 79 updates if not transparency? You're right about everything. I feel remorse for my pledge. Totally true. And yeah, you might call me a dreamer or whatever you want but I did hope for a change. The 79 updates so far were only "talking" without ANY real gameplay so far. That's what games are all about. You can write lore all day and explain how you plan to do stuff and everything. But nothing is as honest and clear as gameplay. And that's what they've shown to the journalists first. So yeah, I'm disillusionised now, thanks. And I can write as many "hipster bs" as I want. I'm not here to make any friends or to please anyone. Are you the forum's official advocate here, anyway?
  21. To be honest, I backed them because it seemed like they really wanted to change the game industry. At least that was part of my motivation why I backed them on that level. Now I know that it was just to get my money. Nothing else. They just weren't able to get traditional funding so they asked their fans. But they didn't even want to change behaviour of the style and politics of game development in the first place it seems. Good games are not about marketing. Good games always sell. Quality sells and builds up a reputation. If they fear some whiners on the press more than they respect the people who financed them I've definitely backed the wrong guys. I have my principles as well, you know... Sorry, but next time they shall ask a publisher to back their game to sell millions of copies. Not me. I'm not in again for that kind of stuff. Or they should just give it the name it deserves: preorder. Because that's what it is and nothing else. Edit: There is a simple reason to prevent what you've written. Just show the stuff to the whole public so everyone can see it at the same time. That's realy transparency. I don't need an exclusive backers club.
  22. So some video game journalist who don't really give a **** about PoE get to see gameplay stuff before we backers get to see it? That's pretty disappointing tbh. They should never ever show stuff to journalists before they showed it to us. What happened with all the transparency? Why do they follow industry standards which we hated that much so that we went to kickstarter? I don't get it, really. I'm almost sad and angry now that I've spent half a grand on that project. i feel betrayed, sorry.
  23. I still love the visual style of the game, it's such a good Infinity Engine feel. But a dynamic night-and-day system is quite pointless without a dynamic repositioning of the shadow casting. It's ok if there will be only two times of day, but even then the exact same position of sun and moon is just weird... I would strongly vote for a static system, really. in the Infinity Engine games daytimes were static as well (I guess for a reason....)
