  1. I'm speechless... That's just so wrong. Anyway, back to D:OS.
  2. I saw this on Steam on special and I'm thinking about buying it as well ? Elder scrolls Online is pretty nice. Never understood why it got such bad reputation. It is exactly like a SP Elder scrolls games in terms of quests except there is also MP and the world is just really really huge. Is that a bad joke? TESO is NOTHING like a SP Elder Scrolls. Maybe you don't give a **** about immersion in game but I do. Do you really want to argue that running throuh a world alone is the same as running through a world with thousands of others which is the probably the most unimmersive thing ever? I don't even talk about respawning enemies (even bosses) and the most stupid quest design somebody could think of. TESO for MP is mediocre. TESO for SP is just crap. This whole thread makes me sad. Especially that it's driven by someone who wallows in his own bigotted and arrogant view on games. Never feed the troll, guys. Have you played it? Because the quest design is exactly like a SP Skyrim. The quests are long have a lot of story are not only kill that or that thing etc. As for immersion. The greatest thing about Elderscrolls is that even you play on the same server the world you are in is different. You are freeing cities, making decisions and all this forms your overall world and only your world. Loot is the same the crafting system is great as well. And on top of that you have a fun PVP mode. It maybe not worth paying monthly for but if you play Elder scrolls as a SP alone and you like Skyrim you will have fun with Elder scrolls. Yes, I have played it during the beta. Quest structure already sucked hard in Skyrim but at least it was kind of immersive. In TESO quests are just uninspired, boring and tedious. And no, there is ZERO immersion in TESO. Don't even argue about that because MMOs in general don't offer any immersion at all. If you really think there is any immersion in TESO, sorry, but then you don't even know what this word means... And I liked Skyrim for what it is. At the same time I really hate TESO for what it is. it offers zero enjoyment for somebody who wants to role-play in a game in SP.

  4. Probably on Obsidians radar, but still a good read: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/220463/Divinity_Original_Sin_is_the_game_Larian_Studios_waited_15_years_to_make.php At the same time, Original Sin has sold itself on its systems. The reviews I've read give only cursory notice to the writing, and then gush over the systems. I'm not so certain if that's the best way to go with a game that's selling itself on story. Also, Obsidian faces a tough choice, where allowing reviewers early access to the game might increase their already harmful reputation for bugs, but might reduce the number of bugs in the long run. I thought Pillars is going to sell on both story and gameplay/combat...
  5. in other words, things that I care less about than anything else in a game such as this oh, well, what can you do as for missing out on great games, the only truly great game that starts off really slow I can think of off the top of my head is Fallout 2. I hated the first few areas with a passion, that's why I stopped replaying it, I just can't bring myself to make the trek to Vault City all over again just to get to the interesting parts. most other games I tried and disliked in the first 30-60 minutes would eventually prove bad anyway (BG, I'm looking at you) Well tbh a lot of that could be said about BG2 as well... While Irenicus was a great antagonist the main idea behind the story wasn't as complex as it seemed. But the great atmosphere and the many good side quests and the variety made that game so enjoyable. D:OS offers of course way less content and depth (because nobody makes a game as big as BG2 anymore today) but it's made with a similar design approach in mind while featuring a different overall tone (both in graphics/art design and storytelling)...
  6. Haha, sounds like the game gives you a hard time.
  7. Sorry, but you're just ignorant and arrogant. You're heavily opposed to something you don't even know and you're even proud of your ignorance. But I don't care, continue to live in your own micro-cosmos of prejudices and self-limitations if it pleases you. Just spare sane people with your weird accusations and don't try to make something up without having any solid argument (or by stating just plain wrong things). Someone who delivers real arguments isn't apologetic, you know? That's the accusation of someone who doesn't have any real arguments himself.
  8. 1) Simply put: you don't like that art style and so you try to find reasons to make up any reasonable explanation why everybody else shouldn't like it neither. Good try, but failed. I guess you have some WoW neurosis that causes you to think that everything that even slightly looks like WoW is bad by design or lazy or mainstream or whatever you call it. I guess in your own universe old-school RPGs are only allowed to be dark, grim and realisitc. Sorry, you're wrong. 2) You don't even know what you're talking about. Text appearing above the head of characters is just ambient chatter. The "real" dialgoues have a "normal" window like in every other classic RPG and they are NOT voiced. Get your facts straigth before you make some weird accusations. Sometimes watching a three minutes youtube video isn't enough to assess a game properly... 3) How much have you even seen from the GUI? Hotbar and minimap are pretty standard for a reason: because they work. Not everything implemented in WoW is bad just because you don't like WoW (I don't like it neither but who cares?) The interface of Diablo 2 was better? No, absolutely not. Maybe you should have a look at the complete GUI because it works pretty well in D:OS. 4) And again you're totally wrong. The game doesn't make it ANY easy for the player. And there is nothing linear in the game apart from enemies because they don't scale with the player level. Everything else is completely unlinear without any hints whatsoever what to do next. Your "critique" is nothing more than laughable to the point of being pathetic, a sloppy rushed assessment of someone who has seen a three minute video of the game on youtube. Most of what you said is just your uninformed opinion which you tried to hide behind weird generalizations and accusations or just plain wrong points based on completely lack of information. Sorry, dude, but try it with more reason and at least more information next time. Being offensive and smart-alecky doesn't make your statments any more valid.
  9. Make it 14. BG2 was released in 2000. The problem is that many people don't play RPGs or FPS, they just play games. I play all kinds of different games which different design approaches and different strengths. The olny purpose they have is to be fun and entertaining. So I don't care if Divinity: Originial Sin is an RPG by the books or not. That's totally unimportant to me. Important is whether the game "works" as a package and whether it's fun to play. And by the way, game design philosophy is much more complex than making a game in genre X or Y. Whole books have been written on the topic. Having a deep immersive story is only one element in a much bigger puzzle and it's quite common sense in design philosophy that good games focus on certain strengths instead of trying to cater to everyone and trying to include everything. The main story is just not the biggest focus of Divinity: Original Sin and that's ok because it has other strengths like engaging combat, good exloration and a high degree of systemic freedom. If that makes the game less RPG then it shall be so.
  10. Nice update and good decision to not limit the length of the documentary to physical disc size restrictions. Those who want their documentary on disc can just burn it to DVD/Blu-Ray themselves imo.
  11. I said better (and not because of their sexual orientation since I don't care about that stuff at all) not perfect. Grow up, dudes.
  12. No offense but that's almost impossible for someone of your intelligence, you would be insulting your gamers insight if you really can't remember one character I remember some names, but hardly their character. Only one comes to my mind is Alistair. The rest, hm,...too long ago tbh. I have played dozens of other games in the meantime. But I can remember much more NPCs from BG2 tbh although I've played that game 10 years ago or so... Also I think Bioware did a much better job with (some of) the Mass Effect characters...
  13. I don't even remember any characters from DA:O...
  14. Any why do you want to tear your eyes out exactly? How about giving some constructive critique instead of indirectly insulting both the game and the people who like it? I am speechless as well.
  15. You can just use the windows hotkey for the same purpose without screwing up anything in the game. Probably referring to the huge day one patch which included all the voice-overs, don't think there have been any really big patches since. Hope the large patch will include my KS pet, oh, and it'd be nice if they solved my crash issues, love the game, but crashing on level-up sort of makes it unplayable ( this only started happening after the one-but-last patch too )... There will a big patch next week with new AI personalities and bugfixes. There will be another big patch in August which brings new companions to the game. Larian confirmed that in a recent interview with PC Gamer. Read the interview for more details: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/07/09/divinity-original-sin-interview-how-larian-built-an-rpg-with-no-wrong-choices-and-details-on-its-next-update/
  16. Dragon Age: Inquisition looks really lacking right now and their newest video with 15 mins of gameplay only made it worse (what's that? anti-marketing?)... - weird incoherent art design - horrible GUI (both functions and especially design) - dumbed down tactical combat - laughable fights with mediocre/bad AI (what I've seen so far) - really bad horse animations (I mean really bad) - forced to travel in 3rd person perspective outside of combat - a lot of uninteresting party characters with... - ...rubbed in your face political correctness - catering to console action kiddies whereever possible, yay! - generic player have to save the world story, following the Bioware template word by word I'm not sure I want to play that game at release for full price anymore. I liked Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins but that game seems worse than both in almost every aspect. Right now I only want to play it for the story and dialogues and stuff (and even the story seems to be generic and unimaginative as hell...) and that probably not enough to justify full price. It's a shame to see what Bioware have become given the fact that the same freakin company has created my beloved BG2 more than a decade ago...
  17. It's in to give people who don't care that much about character creation some templates to start with. You can find basic weapons for every profession before you get in the first serious fight.
  18. No I think it is the worth to mouth praise this game gets around gaming and RPG forums. Also do not forget all the footage and professional streamer streaming and loving this game as well. This game is the perfect example why I say that normal journalist sites are dead and will do nothing for Pillars of eternity. It is all about YouTube and twitch and the possibility to make this content early available to the people. Well, D:OS already got as well 9/10 from Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-09-divinity-original-sin-review 9/10 from GameInformer: http://www.gameinformer.com/games/divinity_original_sin/b/pc/archive/2014/07/08/a-truly-divine-rpg.aspx So the game seems to be critically acclaimed all over the board, by "major" gaming media, smaller sites, gamers (just look at Steam user reviews or metacritic...) and youtubers. This game could be really successful with both word of mouth and traditional reviews combined...
  19. NICE! Great timing as well since many CRPG fans are occupied with Divinity: Original Sin atm anyway. Until August 18th most should be ready for new epic CRPG stuff.
  20. AC > AC2 > AC3 ~ AC:B = AC:R AC:R > AC2 > AC:B > AC3 > AC:BF ~ AC Of course I'm playing Divinity: Original Sin atm. Every fan of CRPGs should do so.
  21. This game is just great. It's just so much fun. I've played the game for more than 50 hours now since release and I'm still addicted. So much to explore, combat is great, music is incredibly good, graphics are nice and fitting, it's just a "round" package. Of course it has a different vision than Pillars. D:OS has little focus on choice&consequence in dialogues but that's also part of the accessibl co-op concept. While deep immersive story decisions are king in a SP experience they are way less in co-op. D:OS is more a game that values the moment, the direct joy of gameplay. It rewards curiosity and it rewards tactics. It's great that we can have so similar but also so different CRPGs like Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity in 2014. Who would have thought that two or three years ago? Kudos at Larian for this awesome game and I hope Pillars will be at least as successful and fun.
  22. I want Carsomyr for my paladin. A paladin without a holy avenger is only half a paladin...
  23. I sure hope Pillars will be a lot better than Wasteland 2 since this game is a huge disappointment to me so far... Anyway, any news on the keys? I want to gift my second WL2 key to a friend.
  24. I think we should stop thinking about romances as some part of "special feature". Clever writing should include romantic moments in the regular storyline and dialogues. Bioware came up with this "press X to start romance Y" crap but it's no natural law that you have to follow that route. Also "romance" is a quite big word. There can and should be romance which doesn't involve a serious relationship or sex or whatever. The human palette of love, romance, flirting and stuff is way bigger and more complex than that "either you date that girl or you give her a rude answer". I agree that this was also apparent in BG2. But let's be honest: that was 14 years ago and time, money, experience and tech was limited. There is just no excuse to follow exact the same route again today and making the same mistake. I think romance (or all the variations of human love and affection) as a general human motive should be of course in the game but not necessarily as a predefined "outcome" of choosing a "predefined" set of answers in dialogue. This is too obvious, too limited in both writing, effort and effect. I hope Obisidian won't do it that way. The whole palette of love and hate should be apparent in every dialogue and every interaction with NPCs and companions in various degrees. That's how we humans act: we cannot interact without emotions involved. It's just that our real motivations and emotions are complex and often not that obvious.
  25. Did David Gaider write any of the romances in BG2? I know Luke Kristjansen was the main writer of the Jaheira romance. Maybe that's the reason why the Jaheira romance actually was quite good....
