  1. I voted for every single species in the second poll except for small humans.
  2. Wasn't ME3's 'Story Mode' just a fancy term for 'Easy Mode'? I regard ME3 as a game that got the inclusion of different game modes wrong. The 'Action Mode' was just insulting. It treated the player like an idiot, it even took away the choice to pick your name and class. On the other hand, New Vegas' Hardcore mode was awesome, and all this seems interesting, too.
  3. Planescape 2: Electric Boogaloo.
  4. On this matter I completely trust Obsidian. Also, this is probably one of the only parts of a game that should not be influenced by outside factors, ideally. Once the fans start having a say over the plot, it becomes a custom-tailored soulless thing, made to fit a specific target group. Setting and basic character outlines are a completely different thing. They can tell us about that kind of stuff, but I don't expect the community to have much influence over that stuff, either. Only give us tidbits that are unlikely to cause a fan reaction strong enough to influence their work.
  5. Do we really need Project Eternity: Origins? The origin gimmick in DAO was nice, but I think the Arcanum approach to character background would fit this game better. It allows more freedom and takes less work to do. It'd also be less fraudulent.
  6. Now these answers are pretty limited. How about this: - Full voice vcting - Only voice acting for important characters/important lines - I don't care about voice acting Because tbh I don't know what to pick in this poll.
  7. This game will move mountains! It'll mount movements!
  8. Oh yes. I just bought Arcanum from GOG. I've probably already spent at least an hour on the character generation screens, reading up all the crazy backgrounds you can choose from. (I haven't even come around to actually creating a character yet because I can't decide.) Now that kind of stuff makes creating a character fun. So, what will Project Eternity have to offer? "At a minimum, players will be able to specify their main character's name, sex, class, race (including subrace), culture, traits, ability scores, portrait, and the fundamental starting options of his or her class (gear, skills, and talents)." That already sounds pretty interesting. I'm sure the character creation process will be fun regardless whether they allow you to roll your stats.
  9. Also, on companions potentially leaving you or refusing to go with you... you know, there could be some reason why they don't do that. Kind of like how the companions of PS:T followed the player character because they were all being plagued by past torments (although that didn't stop some of the more chaotic ones to attack you under certain conditions). There could be some reason, some motivation why your group of heroes has to stick together, or is even forced to stick together. Instead of your companion leaving you after you've done some horrible deed, that companion will express his hatred and disgust for you every time you talk with him. That could actually be an even stronger form of reactive story telling than your companion simply leaving you. Depends how it's done, though. DA2 did the same approach, but in that game it didn't make any sense. You could do the most amoral things and be a total **** to your companions and they would still help you on your quests and everything - for no apparent reason.
  10. Seven isn't a bad number. It's exactly the amount of companions there were in Planescape Torment. If Project Eternity's companions are anywhere near as interesting and detailed as the ones in PS:T, I'll be more than happy with them. Plus, there are actually eight companions, with the 2.2million stretch goal included... which kind of ruins the PS:T comparison.
  11. The thread title is misleading. I believe "Paying once to get something twice" would be more accurate as that is what OP wants.
  12. I'm unfamiliar with the context for this particular character, but if that's indicative of the PS:T designs in general, I'd say they did pretty bad in that department. This isn't the impression I get from the Obsidian games I have played, though. You're putting up an interesting point. The main character of PS:T isn't wearing that much, either:
  13. Depends on the character. It would be ridiculous if every female character walked around in this type of outfit. Also, I find it hilarious how many people seem to be unaware this outfit is taken directly from PS:T.
  14. -Tooltips for abilites and skills. Having nothing but an array of cryptic icons to go from can be very bewildering. That was one of the things that made it difficult for me to get into BG2.
  15. Combos as in DAO, conjure up a pool of oil and ignite it with a fire ball? Yes, please. Combos as in DA2, use your mage to assign FREEZE state to an enemy so your warrior can use his BASH FROZEN ENEMY skill to instantly kill that enemy? God no.
  16. Hmm... I'd vote 'The fact this is being made by Obsidian'. So I went with Fallout 1 & 2 since these are my favorite Black Isle games.
  17. If you're playing a localised version of a game your experience will suffer either way. Every localisation I've ever come across is inferior to the original product. Many of those narrative nuances get lost along the way because the translators couldn't fully grasp the narrative themselves or simply didn't bother to. After all, they have to rewrite a ridiculous amount of text - they simply don't have the time to ponder on every word's exact meaning. Edit: From my experience, the problem is that most people don't even attempt to play a game in English - after all, why play a game in English if you can play it in your own language? Why leave the comfort zone you've grown accustomed to? I'm confident once people find out about this game they'll play it no matter the language. No true fan of Obsidian and the IE games would pass this game up.
  18. That's one of the things I hated about Dragen Age 2. You can be the biggest ****, commit as many crimes as you want, but still - everyone will either love you or hate-love you. There is no way to lose a party member unless you specifically tell the game to sell him into slavery or whatever. One of the points where I thought DA2 wasted a lot of potential was the final 'Rivalry' encounter with Aveline, a companion who has become the city's guard-captain over the years. It quickly escalates into a heated discussion and you can even mock her, causing her to violently beat up your player character - and that's it. Nothing happens afterwards. She stays with you no matter what, will aid you at the end and will act like nothing happened. Not even a temporary break-up or anything.
  19. I'm German and I exclusively play video games in English. All in all, video game localisation is nothing but a hindrance imo. It costs money, splits up the community, causes communication problems, etc. Plus, the localisation standards are extremely low atm. You can be happy if the voice actors bother to do a half-assed job. And it's obvious the people doing the localisation rarely care for what they're doing. The work they're doing comes nowhere near as close to the love for detail of the game's own developers. I can't blame them. If my job was to translate every piece of text in a video game I'd probably become a cynic in no time.
  20. This kind of inventory always reminds me of the Might and Magic games. There's a certain appeal to it. I dunno how fitting it would be for Project Eternity, though.
  21. Even though DA2 was a major disappointment, I've got to admit that it was nice how you could let Varric do the talking at certain points in the game. I think such a thing should be fairly easy to implement. Your PC would usually initiate all dialogue, but at certain points an option would open up that would read something like "[Let your companion XYZ talk to this NPC]".
  22. A little bit of everything, I'd say. You need a high Strength stat to intimidate this goon. You need to be a member of the Freemasons to get a discount from this merchant. You need to use the right dialogue choices to persuade this dude.
  23. Yes. I want companions with unique powers and quirky features that have some kind of effect on gameplay. Like Minsc not allowing you to touch (remove) his hamster. That kind of stuff gives you the feeling that your companions are real individuals with their own little eccentricities.
  24. The set-up sounds nice, too. "restless forces that follow and haunt them wherever they go" kinda reminds me of those shadows hunting you in PS:T. Fighting for survival is something anyone can get behind. Uncovering a mystery is a plus.
  25. Boreal forest dwarves? At first I was against the classical fantasy races, but apparently you're doing a good job staying away from the rpg clich
