Played Wasteland 2 Beta recently. It crashes a lot for me. I suspect some bad optimization because performance drops with each minute played and the larger the area and the more NPCs on it, the faster it deteriorates to unplayable/crash status... Other than that, it is quite enjoyable. Can;t wait for the full version... It seems it might even be around the same or after PoEternity :D

Turn-Based or Real Time
Darkpriest replied to Legionary666's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
That's about all I have to say to that comment. What's wrong with it? It's fairly easy to access, elegant, fast paced, yet tactical with meaningful choices... what's not to like it for a computer game based squad TB combat? -
Turn-Based or Real Time
Darkpriest replied to Legionary666's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The problem is, I do not like any TB combat I tried in high fantasy so far. Best TB combat in a cRPG is for me by far Fallout. Simple, yet still requiring tactical placement. I would say that Age of Decadence has a decent TB combat as well, although it's not a party based game Arcanum TB was abysmally bad for me. ToEE while capturing the rules well, it just felt too tedious for a computer game. -

it's not bad, it's tedious and too much complexity was ported on the SP computer game from a PnP experience where you spend time with friends. Computer game, should not be that tedious. It's something that Firaxis grasped well with their XCOM and TB combat -

actually TB in ToEE wasn't that good... it was complex, but in a bad way. -
Skyrim isn't even a good game (at least for me). Too much is getting lost in Open World games in terms of narrative, story, reactivity and Roleplay term is getting dumbed by infintie crafts, scooping infinite dungeons that are similar and boring, no character development, and very few meaningful choices. I mean, if it would really be something that can blow my mind, where I can chose nations that I support, where I grow in status and power, where I can buy different parts of lands and make my "strongholds" there and become true lord of given lands, or just go and continue my story as some sell sword or even a merchant that grows influence in various lands etc. and moves from early adventuring to sending adventuring parties to do his bidding, etc.... Nah, I just do not buy Open World stuff.... narrative and story suffered in each of those games so far. Perhaps TW3 will change my mind (although I doubt) and I do not even intend to buy DA:I after all the fiascos from BW starting with ME2 and from what I've seen in gameplay videos so far. If they are going to go for the next KS project. I want it to blow my mind with story, and world reactivity that is covered in a superb narrative sauce.

Kickstart Backer Badge
Darkpriest replied to Gfted1's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If it still does not show up, then I am in that group -
@up I agree. The thing that got me in some interviews, is that currently the game is somewhere between BG and BG2 in terms of scope and number of areas and quests, while it has 2 big cities (so 1 more than BG 2) and the biggest single dungeon I can remember (15 levels !!!). That means that there might really be not that much aside of these two big places, hence I would definitely welcome more wilderness/small hubs areas

Update #69: Pillars of Eternity
Darkpriest replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Type the first letter(s) of your state/province's name. Wait. After a few seconds the box should update automatically. If it's a non-US province/state/whatever, just leave it blank if it is not critical for shipping services in your country. I left it blank for mine. Postal Code, City and Street are enough in my case.- 488 replies

Update #69: Pillars of Eternity
Darkpriest replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Same here. Yup. I hope this is because the site's getting hammered or something and not because I'm a weird foreigner with a weird foreign phone number. Am also a weird foreigner with weird numbers and address. Also, if Justin Bell reads this: I love the music. It's a lot better than the Kickstarter music (which was also awesome), so kudos! I really enjoyed it. As Pierce Hawthorne would say: It's streets ahead! Same here. For those getting this error, did you try again? It looks like it went through because your badge is showing up. Well i got the error as well. Isn't badge working simply when you link the forum account to the mail account that pledged, but shipping info, phone, pledge type etc. are still not getting processed? EDIT: *apparently I did not get the badge and still can't finalize the pledge thing* EDIT 2: so it went through a moment ago after several tries, but why no badge on the forum? O.o is it because my forum e-mail is different than KS e-mail? EDIT 3: and then the badge appears, although I have no idea what are the rules for them and why I do not get KS badge... It does not matter though as long as I get what I ordered :D- 488 replies

To be honest. I would completely not mind additional stretch goals.... hell even going for Early Access on steam might be a viable method (since I assume you will also appear there with the game) The only real question is. Would this delay the game by a lot in release time or is it just a problem in "manhours" available within the current budget constrains?

I prefer a written description that tickles my imagination with a picture of a person that gives out the best first impression of this character. I loved Keldorn picture in BG2, and so many more in BG series. PS:T was too otherworldly but it was still doing a decent job in terms of "pictures". The writing in that game though is second to none...

InExile is plotting to ruin Torment by making it turn-based
Darkpriest replied to khango's topic in Computer and Console
While I like Frozen Synapse, I feel like the sequential TB is better for RPGs. There is a lot more skills and "abilities" to be used, and probably quite a lot of AoEs, plus there will be also melee engagement. All this would make it rather hard to implement in synchronous TB system. Frozen Synapse is fairly simple by comparison in terms of variables and combat methods- 343 replies

InExile is plotting to ruin Torment by making it turn-based
Darkpriest replied to khango's topic in Computer and Console
I like the system like in Fallout had or some two action system aka new XCOM has. TB can really be fun, even more so than RTwP, because you can add all different kinds of animations and "finishers", which you simply can't put in any RT game because of the pace/balance issues. I like the TB approach and I hope they can deliver on it. There is however a risk that TB can be overly complicated and simply bad... I could not stand Arcanum TB combat system. I also had some issues with ToEE combat system. Age of Decadence seems to get it right (albeit they have issues with combat balance), but that system and some really cool spell animations and effects can go a long way in making TB experience enjoyable. Firaxis understood it and made their TB system fairly simple yet still retaining tactical depth and added some cool animations sauce.- 343 replies

To be honest I am more in favor of Turn Based combat, because that means there is no excuse for not implementing some super cool spell visuals like we had in the Planescape. Since it is Turn based you can have all the time in the world to see the incantation and delivery of high level spell with all its glorious effects! RTwP has its limitation, because it has to be fairly fast and not clutter the screen too much so you can still see the battlefield and react.- 343 replies

I am quite sure that they had to have a lot of laugh there though :D Being on Beth's team and knowing that it's fake :D

I've played Brutal Legend... Shame it's so linear but overall a nice comic relief with heavier music (I've found myself sitting and riding around in Duce more than doing quest stuffs)

Heh... well I am waiting for some RPGs - Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, The Witcher 3, maybe next Shadowrun returns and also Age of Decadence, once they will balance stuff out. I am on the fence with possible Fallout 4. I remember how ****ty was Fallout 3 and only F:NV managed to get some love from me. As for DA:I and possible next ME (probably not called ME 4) it all depends on the reception, but those will probably first two Bioware games that I am willing to skip and not feel any loss about it. The last two games I really enjoyed from Bioware were DA:O and first ME. DA2 was a big pile of dung, ME2 was too shooty and ME3 went even further the route of a simple corridor shooter removing all non-combat skill checks. ME didn't have many, but at least had some, ME2 had bypass and hacking minigames (which was already "huh?"). Other listed games there are not my cup of tea.
