  1. Yes this is very true. I mentioned it in another thread, but there's a ton of threads so it's easy to miss. VLC will open .ogg, and will convert it to mp3.
  2. Nope! I wrote every single note and second of music in the soundtrack Obsidian owns the soundtrack, I need to discuss it with the owners of the company and the PoE production team to see what they want to do.
  3. Thanks! Let me talk to some folks. That decision involves a few people, but please don't be disapointed if the answer is no : /
  4. If you replace the combat music with something else and you rename it, it'll just play where combat normally would, and would stop when it would normally stop. For anyone with the courage to delve into the asset bundles (maybe its not in an asset bundle) waht you re looking for is a folder called AreaMusic. In there are files that are basically just lists of music tracks. You can edit them as text files. All you need to do is remove the comabat music text and leave it blank. Not quite sure whats going to happen if you do that, but it's worth a shot.
  5. Well, Torment and BG had music files with some sort of loop points, to begin with. Does eternity use the same system? or the loop is simply end-to-beginning, if there is any loop at all? Secondly, I mean more control over the playlists and locational\specific music (like, the battle with the watcher and\or assigning personalised music to particular areas - this is already done, but I can't understand how). more similar to Japanese RPG, I suppose it's a quirk of mine! No our system doesn't use sync points, and its a simple loop. Music can be scripted using event scripts attached to conversations, game objects, or encounter objects in the scene editor. Technically it is possible to have scripted music just for the old watcher.
  6. Hi, sorry you can't download the extra content. Have you tried email Obsidian support? https://www.obsidian.net/support. They can help.
  7. Hmmmm. You don't hear people talking in the background in Defiance Bay? You shouldn't be able understand them, but you should be able to hear what sounds like lots of people talking in a city... If you turn the music off, is it silent? Maybe you've encountered a bug?
  8. This is awesome Andreas, spot on. Honored that that you took the time to do this work. You have great ears!
  9. Thanks! You know, if you want to try an experiment, you can try to temporarily remove the combat music files from the folder. I have no idea what would happen, but maybe the result will be that the calm music will continue to play? You can also try just renaming the files if you don't want to remove them, perhaps by putting a dash at the end of the name, or even _DISABLED or something. This would have the same result as removing them.
  10. Yup, iMUSE was fantastic. Unfortunately it required a lot of work with all the transitions - and as you noted, not many even noticed it... It would have been great to have had a more robust music system. Unfortunately we didn't have the time or resources to do anything more complex than what is in the game. At one point we did have a combat music that would have let us have intros, outros, and sync points which would have allowed for more variety and would have sounded more organic. But it came online too late and we had to comment it out. Hopefully something to look forward to with Eternity 2 I think
  11. You're right, they are I've always thought that way too. I can see if we can fix this in the next patch.
  12. There's no easy way to do this unfortunately. Unity makes it very hard to. One option would be to download fraps, open a level that has the sounds you want, turn off the voice and music in the options, and capture some footage. Then you have to convert the video to audio... Its kind of a pain :/
  13. Thanks for your support! I don't know if a cd is still possible. We had a limited edition one that backers could add on, but I don't think we're still making them anymore.
  14. I'll see if I can get a programmer to weigh in. Stand by! EDIT: I just emailed the programmers group to see if they would weigh in. Hopefully someone will chime in with some insight for you.
  15. As you've discovered, voice file names correspond to the conversation name plus the conversation node number. So if the conversation name is 1_conversation_awesome and the node in question is 109, the voice file should be named 1_conversation_awesome_0109 (suffix numbers are always four digits long). Also there's a flag that indicates whether a node should be voiced or not, though I don't know what the flag is. Should be easy to figure out. Find a conversation that has some voiced and some unvoiced nodes and diff the params. Let me know if that gets you any closer to voicing Kolsc.
  16. I had planned to write one that expanded on the kickstater campaign music, but we ran out of time. Maybe in the future.......
  17. Hey Torhal, Take a look at this thread when you get a chance. Explains how to get an updated soundtrack with tags. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71806-tags-for-digital-soundtrack/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1622826
  18. Well, thank you! I tried very hard to write a score that could either be listened to actively or that could be experienced passively. I wanted it to seep into the subconscious as people played the game. Glad to hear its working out that way for some! Not sure about recording live for the rest of the score. I'd be ecstatic if we did, but I suspect not. Who knows what the future has in store though? The Shire similarities were coincidental actually. I write with piano in a very improvisatory and free flow manner, and those similarities just came out on their own. I didn't really realize until I started orchestrating, but when I noticed it I thought it was charming, and it was different enough that I just let it stay. You know the use of chimes throughout the soundscape (sfx and otherwise) is very deliberate. Very early on Josh asked us to try and incorporate them thematically. Maybe one day he'll elaborate on why that is! What you described here was the reaction I was hoping for! Thank you!
  19. Thank you very much for everything you said. It's more gratifying than I can express to hear that people enjoy the soundtrack. To answer your questions... Will there be music made for the Expansion? We're not really ready to talk specifics about the expansion, but I can say we've talked about audio for the expansion. Sorry I can't be more specific yet! In due time, in due time. Other than the IE games, what other things were you listening to? Great question, I listened to quite a lot actually while working on Eternity. Of course the IE game soundtracks. Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim. Conan the Barbarian, Star Trek II Wrath of Kahn, The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Game of Thrones and Battlestar Galactica soundtracks. Oh, The Cosmos from the new TV show. Lots and lots of stuff! Well, that's quite a flattering comparison! If Howard Shore and I had a composer duel, Howard would destroy me just by thinking about writing music. Yes that's very much on purpose. Its a long game, and repetitive things tend to become even more annoying and repetitive after 50-60 hours! I felt it would be nice to give folks a break from the music once in a while, so there's a 4 minute cooldown after the area music plays. I admit not everyone likes the silence... Apologies for that. I was really pressed for time, and (regretfully) put the soundtrack together without giving it the attention it deserved. That's all fixed now though, if you get the latest patch on Steam, or if you redownload the soundtrack from the backer portal, you will find proper track names. Hehehe. We wanted to pay specific homage to IE combat music, so at least four of them used those games as a starting point. It was Bobby Null's idea, I think it worked out alright! That's Burial Isle, you can hear it in the updated soundtrack released with the latest patch. EEKS! Very flattering to be mentioned in the same sentence as John Williams. Not sure I deserve such high praise, John Williams is a genius. I'm just a sentimental gamer who tries really hard to write music Quite a compliment, thank you! Success! Uh... Unless the humming is a bad thing?
