I would like to see druid that are more sorcereric than nature servants. As in irish tales druids are descripted more like sorcerer that had supernatural power to turn people to animals or stone, heal and curse people and of course perform divination. So some what barbaric variation of priest or wizards, who believe more oral history and teaching than literary work. This description is coloured by the fact that most that is known today about ancient Irish culture comes from the descriptions of Christian monks and such who attempted to demonise the old religion. However, I also think that druids as class in particular should fulfill the role of priests that negotiate the dangerous or hostile forces of nature in favour of their peoples. Consequently, a druid should be a servant of the gods/powers of nature and a protector of his human community who depend on his augury to properly deal with the nature surrounding them. Researcher that study history of druids think that Christian monks didn't acctually really bothered with subject and writed up many different tales. Most of description about druids come from romans (especially Caesar), who descriptes druids as leader class, who are also religious leaders that do human sacrifices (mostly criminals) and who have said having supernatural powers like divination. Irish folk tales have many sort of druids (there is even giants that are called druids because they have magic). Which is why I proposed that druid should be more like druids in those stories, it isn't because it is more historically accurate, but it would be different take to druid class what other (mainly d&d) has taken and it would make them more intresting to me.

Thing is me and him would probably agree on what makes a good female character. But I can't support a stance that's instead of saying "more of this please" says "stop doing that." I agree that good example is often better than saying one should not do something -

From what I gather, their attitude is that its not a 'fund my life" kickstarter because there is an end product (the game) that is promised out of it; I'm not sure that I necessarily agree but I can see their argument, at least. Exactly. It probably seemed like a nice thing to them at the time. I mean, I can appreciate helping a kid reach their dreams. I'm a dad. I was a kid once, a while back. Arguably, my maturity level is that of a kid a lot of the time. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if this was just some regular, working class family with no real baggage instead of Harvard graduate CEO's of a company that made $100M from Kinkos, whom have tried stupid things in the past with crowd funding ideas. I'm sure there would have been some blow back, but nothing close to the scale of this. Actually she is not Harvard graduate, she only has credit from Harvard's Bussiness Schools Owner/President Management program that is short additional education program for Business Owners and Entrepreneurs. And she wasn't CEO kinkos.com, but only Executive Vice President (second to CEO) and kinkos.com was venture capital company (so owned by those who funded it and one of the majority owners was kinkos itself, who in 2000 buy other investors out and shaked founders and workers of kinkos.com [including Susan Wilson, who was on of the founders], leaving them somewhat penniless, from whole transaction). But otherwise I agree with your post. -

So basically his aim is to censor those things? Or other words he express his freedom of speech, by expressing his dislike such portrayal and tries to convince other people that his dislike has genuine reason behind it and hopes that other people will also support of his view of things. And don't think that you can actually count it as censorship as he only ask people not to do something instead of trying to get governing bodies not to publish something. -
How about musket also as melee weapon, by adding bayonet in them? Bayonets are 17th century inventation, so bit too modern for PE's time frame, but as fantasy game there could be some flexibiliby. Sword bayonet

But it still only says "My goal is to raise $829 to cover the cost of RPG Camp" and "any extra toward a laptop". The camp is only running for the one week. So that's a very expensive laptop, even with 5% taken out. Project newest update gives some details how they plan use money now. And it looks like that camp is changed to week in M.I.T. Game Lab -

I think this kind things are something that should be leaved to sequels, and in this first game in PE's world Obsidian should consentrate to make good basic rule system and low level campaing using that system. Because if we get high level campaing, with all the super powers in first installment, then it that much harder to invent new things to next game, and that is what I want series of games of this type that are placed in wolrd of PE (I so hope that Obsidian reveals soon what their world is called ).

It is? Where did you get this? BoNS is my favorite fantasy work. Numenera setting is science fantasy setting, similar to Book of the New Sun's setting

PE says that it aims to be spiritual successor of IE games (IWDs, BGs and PS:T) T:ToN says that it aims to be spiritual successor of PS:T PE will be placed in new world that Obsidian will develop (which they have little proven experience, but they have veteran team that is worked and expanded other settings) T:ToN will be placed in new world which is alredy mostly develped by Monte Cook (one of the main designer or Planescape setting, and who have long experience for creating RPG settings), and it's team also has other designer from PS setting, who have long experience in RPG setting creation field. PE will use ne ruleset designed by Obsidian (mostly Saywer) T:Ton will use new ruleset designed by Monte Cook and adapted by inXile and Monte Cook for computer games. To me they both look quite similar projects, veteran teams making new and improved version of games that made in past, but same time trying to bring back things that made those games such that people still over decade later say that they were some of the best games ever made.

PS:T wasn't perfect game but it had approach, which is rarely seen in cRPGs or computer games general. PS:T rised player's choice to select their own narrative over other gameplay mechanics and when you add to that good quality writing it make it very unique game. inXile promise that T:ToN will take same rarelly walked approach, made me fund that game, more than anything else what they promised.

Obsidian currently working on next-gen console title
Elerond replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
User Experience designer tries to design product so that it's as pleasant as possible to use, this don't actually always mean working with user interface, but also how product looks, how one takes it to use, how transformation animation etc. are used. User interface development is usually only part of job. There is usually always ways to improve UI, as grouping buttons better, adding short cuts, changing how information is shown and what infromation is shown. (NWN2 is good example how UI changes in every update and how information showing is tuned during post release development) . But such things like how avatar moves, how other character animations work and look are part of user experience as they are part of which makes player feel good when s/he plays the game. -
My hope is that as backers see how project goes on and what decisions developers dom gives enough time to backers to tell that current direction is good or bad and developers react with changes if backers feel that game is going towards wrong direction.

I think that there couple main reasons why D:OS has harder time to get money than Torment. First it's team don't have anyone that is actually well know inside gaming circles, second their product is in that phase of development where it's hardest to sell, as it's vision, aesthetics and mechanics are locked up and they show their nearly ready product (which probably make some people look project and think it's almost ready it don't need our help), thrid their previous games were more action oriented than what they pitch now, so some of series fans probably don't like this change and new fans don't yet know about the project and the forth reason is that for reason or another D:OS has lot less publicity than Torment. What comes to Torment's combat, I think inXile told quite well what was their target and why they leave overall mechanic to be voted by backers. And what comes to inXiles games, those games that I have played (The Bard tale and Chopperlifter HD) are quite good, especially The Bard's Tale (which is RPG, made in last 10 years). And of course inXile gets some of Obsidian's fame as Obsidian gives them quite much support and promotion.

If people were half as intrested to promote good projects as they are spread information about questionable project, much more kickstarter project would get funded, but some reason bashing people (which actually usually works better promotion than any praises that people could give, as people need to see on their own what causes such uproar) is more popular than supporting people. -
Funnily enough, I only now think of what the names would be in finnish. (Won't be a translated version and I wouldn't play one if there was) Ranger = Metsänvartija = literally forest guardian, or forest keeper In RPG's it'd probably be Metsästäjä = hunter, or Metsämies = Forest-man or forest dweller I like "samooja" (Person who travels around, but is different from nomand ["irtolainen/vaeltaja"]) or "sissi" (Finnish army commando) as better translations for ranger. "Metsänvartija" translation comes from british forrest ranger

I love art direction on character clothing and how well it work for both sexes. And I hope that those story arts mean that you are planning somehting similar for cut scenes in PE, because they are just so retro cool.- 131 replies

Anita Sarkeesian/Tropes and Women in Gaming
Elerond replied to alanschu's topic in Computer and Console
I find this conversation somewhat hilarious on in it focus on men and how they see themselves. As damsel in distress trope isn't seen bad because how it makes men look women, but how it makes women look themselves, as it draws picture that women themselves can't be heroes, soldiers or anyway active characters. And this the major view point in Sarkeesian's video. And for some reason I have feeling that some people misunderstand Sarkeesian's projects point and focus which was to study if and how popular tropes about women present themselves in games and if/how presentation of this tropes are changed in games during evolution of gaming industry. Project focus is not criticize game/men/male gamers/gaming industry and Sarkeesian didn't do any criticising of them on this video. In my opinion Sarkeesian kept her focus quite well in first video, even though I think that presentation could have been better (read more entertaining) and analytical side of video could have been bit deeper, but of course this was first of two parts episode and usually analytics come end segments of study show I must see that video first before final judgement.
