  1. Not being multiplayer does not absolve a game of a need for balance as poor balance where one class is comparatively much stronger than the rest or much weaker means that content and all the efforts put into it by the developers will likely never be experienced by a large portion of the community as it's simply unenjoyable to do so when compared to other alternatives. But don't worry, I hear the next patch is going to remove Wizard's ability to have hands. Things'll be fixed soon.
  2. It's a currency union without a fiscal union and the 'rules' for its entry and for entrants were and are routinely ignored by everyone (sole honourable exception to Luxembourg) and that has made it primarily responsible for the mess the PIIGSCetc have found themselves in. They no longer have the tools available to manage their debts because their currency is run out of Frankfurt so devaluation and the like were out (well, until it suited Germany) as options. And because their currency value was tethered to the far stronger German* economy it was overvalued relative to their own economy and their exports were artificially uncompetitive; in contrast Germany's economy was tethered to their weaker ones so the Euro was artificially lower and they were more competitive internationally. Net effect was weaker economies getting weaker as their competitiveness decreased (through no direct fault of their own) while Germany's got stronger, this further exaggerated the difference between the value of the Euro and where a 'real, sovereign currency's value would be both ways, further strengthening Germany and weakening the others. This was further exacerbated by Germany lending money to those weaker economies so they could continue to buy German products; and everyone ignoring the rules on fiscal responsibility. This meant that not only did weaker economies have overvalued currencies, they also had increasing debt burdens. Unsurprisingly, this was unsustainable and the house of cards fell down, and is still in the process of doing so as austerity ratchets up the economic disparity even further, all in the name of paying back the German banks that loaned irresponsibly and with no responsibility being taken by the technocrats who made 'rules' then never enforced them. The PIIGSCetc will never repay their debts, the best that can be done is a structured default without using the actual words, but it ain't going to stop them blaming the victim and exacting their pound of flesh prior to that inevitability. Fundamentally the eurozone is big B Broken. It's a mish mash compromise designed to appeal to politicians and Unionists, and offend as few people as possible; it is unbalanced, unfair and unworkable; a grotesque totem of pointless and ill thought out 'european integration' done solely for the sake/ appearance of said integration and either without any actual intention of being beneficial to all or being done with such horrendous incompetence that any good intentions were irrelevant. It's also close to completely unreformable. It has to be either a complete fiscal and economic union enforced with actual rules rather than follow them if you want, no worries if you don't- which won't happen; and even if it did would necessitate a sort of economic Marshall Plan that would be deeply unpopular in the wealthier states who completely lack the introspection to accept that they spent a decade sucking the lifeblood from the weaker economies with barely more morality than a crack dealer- or it has to go completely. There won't be a genuine recovery until either of those two things happen. *Not just Germany, effectively any stronger than average economy got the benefit) There's a truth to this, I'm just typically not as pessimistic on the outlook because in my experience....mind if you ask where you're from? I ask because in my experience, people are very quick to point out the failures of other countries and claim things will only get worse. My first economics teacher was very fond of critizing the economic practices of other countries and firmly believed the USA would be hit harder by the recession and wouldn't make a smooth recovery. I was of the opinion she was drastically underestimating how much Americans love money; Germany may have solid export and GDP growth numbers, but USA is cunning as all hell.. Make no mistake for example, although I criticize Russia's economy, I wouldn't exactly call them doomed on that front because any half-decent mind can make efforts to provide relief and diminish problems, that goes for any country. Same kinda applies here: this is not something that would implode on itself overnight and if a desire to fix it exists, then it shall happen. Basic faith in human tenacity and brain power dictates so. However, it should be noted that there is a stance within Germany (although a minority opinion by far) that we should simply remove ourselves from the EU. It's nothing I'd take seriously now, but from a cultural perspective, as said there is a level of snobbiness in German culture where they believe they do the job better, and if **** hit the fan I can totally see Germany wishing to blame all other parties for slacking off or not doing things right before bowing out. A sad truth is that the European Union started out with the "elite" states and quickly became something everyone wanted to be a part of. The result? A lot of people fudged the numbers. The concrete economic requirements to join the EU are actually quite strict, as I recall. The problem is they're unreasonably strict to the point that many countries would not feasibly be able to join, so fudging numbers and leniency became a thing. Another "make no mistake" comment, by no means did I mean to support the idea that PIGS is responsible for all problems. I merely named them (specifically Greece moreso) because it's undeniable that these do drag the Euro value down, both because problems do exist there (the statement problems exist within Greece is correct, it's just some would rightfully point out this is not unique to Greece) and because this is the narrative that's popular is that they are to blame, which does have an effect on investor outlooks because of course this means Greece is watched with a more scrutinized eye. Still as I stated, I'm far less pessimistic of the matter.
  3. On the road = safe. Off the road = not safe. If you want to explore areas off the trail, then do so retroactively or be extremely cautious while doing so. (AKA sneak and come prepared)
  4. Thank God Slicken and Chill Fog got nerfed. I was worried for a moment that Wizards might feel useful for a second there, but now Obsidian has taken care of that problem for me.
  5. LOLWTF they nerfed wizard? Thank God, clearly the most overpowered class in the game. *SARCASM SARCASM*
  6. This is pure hypocrisy. Your claim is "why not remove it? It's not that big of a deal." The claim "why not keep it in? It's not that big of a deal" holds the exact same amount of merit. You are convincing yourself that you are taking some righteous stance in the name of artistic integrity and that therefore you are objectively correct. There is no objectively correct course of action here. Obsidian made this game and they are free to include or exclude anything they like from the game. I could say "wolf pelts serve no purpose and they offend me cause I used to own a pet wolf and I'm an avid vegan, why not remove it?" Just because I do not find meaning or entertainment from it does not mean others are the same, or that Obsidian does not prefer they remain. The only time I've "yelled" is when you claimed to be a comedy writer, which is painfully clear to me to be a lie. As an avid fan of comedy, yes I'm going to call you out on this. Forgive me for not liking liars.
  7. My big hairy ass you are a comedy writer, as that right there is probably the funniest statement you've ever written in your lifetime. Nor would it even be the case that WERE you actually a comedy writer, you are somehow absolved from any demand to counter opposing views and arguments made and your stance automatically reigns supreme. Secondly, what the HELL are you talking about? I'm blowing it out of proportion? I'm the one telling everyone to calm the hell down, shutup, and leave Obsidian alone, because ultimately this is a personal decision Obsidian gets to make where they're free to do however they please, and anyone who would urge them to remove the limerick or keep it is merely inserting their own ideologies into the issue and blowing it out of proportion, holding a stake in the argument only because they perceive it holds more meaning than it actually does. Finally, if Obsidian willingly chooses to keep it, then that is indeed artistic integrity as that's their intellectual property, even if the artistic statement being made is little more beyond "we appreciate our backers." Disclaimer: My ass is neither big nor hairy. I'm moreso skinny and I'm one of those nordic types that only gets tiny blonde body hairs you can't really distinguish from the skin.
  8. [Cruel] So why don't you go jump off a cliff if it bothers you so much?
  9. Like I said I'm just skeptical about such mechanics as a rule because it's something that's very easy to misinterpret and likewise very easy for a developer to misinterpret while programming it and code it wrong, either with positive or negative results. Was hoping someone had peered into the code themselves and confirmed it firsthand for that reason.
  10. This is comedy. Comedy is a form of art and thus that is artistic integrity. Pro-tip: Comedy's job is to dance the line of what's appropriate. Honestly? Comedy and art in general have no limitations or barriers. You could theoretically produce art that's racist as all hell, that would not stop it from being art and a form of expression. Hell, some people would argue Heart of Darkness is exactly that. The only reason comedy "dances the line of what's appropriate" is because comedians ultimately seek to make people laugh and smile, so it's not often you'll see one go on stage making jokes about the holocaust, satisfied in knowing he himself sees the humor in it, because there's a clear desire to make others laugh as well and it's painfully obvious such jokes wouldn't fly. But are holocaust jokes completely off the table? No, nothing is for comedy. Look up the Darth Vader vs. Hitler rap battles on Youtube and you can see this plain as day. The jokes are justified, and why? Because they managed to make people laugh. Your Durance argument also holds no water because who is to say the dead guy is not flawed as a transphobe? (though I still do not see how the joke is offensive, I think people are reading waaaaaaay too much into it for that) The "they don't need it here" argument could be applied anywhere, and is as such a non-argument. Obsidian is the author here, they are subject to freedom of speech just like anyone else. As such, they are fully within their rights to keep the joke or discard it.
  11. It's Obsidians right to remove it, but the consequences then are also theirs to carry. I for one will suggest everyone to boycott them for foreseeable future. As I do with other companies that has wronged consumers like Double Fine. After all boycott is only effective tool consumer has. I hope Obsidian understands this as well. No. No no no no. This is a fallacy because you are presuming that they were coerced into removing it and did not remove it of their own accord and following their own moral code and their own desire to remove it after attention was called to it and they realized it was there (fully plausible to miss it amongst the thousands of messages to go through) or fully realized implications of it that they themselves are truly not fond of on a personal level. You are basically convicting them without conclusive evidence. You are free to voice concerns about coercion and pressure from certain groups and how that can lead to unneccesary censorship, but unless Obsidian is making an official statement saying "we caved to the pressure and got scurred by bad press so we removed it" (<---not happening), you would not be handling the situation fairly to assume the worst of their decision and begin your boycott.
  12. Then what is this about? I have a post a page ago that's yet to be countered: This is neither censorship nor oppression. It's a joke that offends some people and makes others laugh, and it is fully up to Obsidian to determine if they feel it's removal is warranted or not. They are not spineless cowards giving into censorship if they remove it, they are not oppressive insensitive hillbillies if they decide to keep it. You are in the wrong aswell if you attempt to put more meaning into this than there actually is.
  13. You are saying that a slight chuckle provided from a video game and not an actual person is going to ruin someone's life. Let that sink in a moment.
  14. Do we REALLY think that transgender people are so emotional and irrational that one simple thing such as this is going to single-handedly set them off and ruin their day? Tell me, have you ever spoken to a transgender person before? Are we also denying that biologically, yes there are two genders and will always BE two genders, and regardless of any form on random crap like this, you will still be expected to list one of two genders on medical forms? (and to my knowledge, the gender-at-birth is always relevant and always asked) Let us not be so open-minded that we deny reality. And again, much of this discussion is people inserting their agendas into the subject matter. Not the issue itself (the limerick) actually carrying ANY of the weight they think it does.
  15. Attack rolls are Accuracy-Enemy defense + d100. If the end result is less than 16 it's a miss. If less then 51, it's a graze for 50% damage. If less than 101 it's a hit for full damage. If it's more or equals 101 it's a crit for 150% damage. I just modified this with the racial passives and weighted them with the damage. Basically if you multiply your average damage with the end result you get your average damage per swing. You could also say that in a neutral environment (Accuracy=enemy defense) the possibility of scoring a hit is 50%. The midget passive upgrades 10% of this to a crit - which is 5% point. The elven racial gives 5% point bonus to ALL your swings - so it upgrades misses and grazes as well. Therefore the elf is better - worst case equal the midget. So if I'm understanding correct, you could basically word it as Hearth Orlans only needing to roll a 91, for a crit, whereas Elves need a 96, but only need a 21 for a graze and a 46 for a hit? No. Orlans bonuses convert 10% of hits to crits. which means that Hit roll is attackers accuracy - targets defense + d100 rolls 1-15 = miss rolls 16-50 = graze rolls 51=100 = hit rolls 101+ = crit Acc-Def = 0 scenario: meaning roll d100 + 0 Normal divination for misses-grazes-hits-crits is 15% misses, 35% grazes, and 50% hits heart orlans will instead do 15% misses, 35% grazes 45% hits and 5% crits. (as 10% of 50% is 5%) wood elves will do 10% misses, 35% grazes, 45% hits and 5% crits. (Acc +5 means 5% bonus in all categories) Acc-Def = -5 scenario: meaning roll d100 - 5 Normal divination for misses-grazes-hits-crits is 20% misses, 35% grazes, and 45% hits heart orlans will instead do 20% misses, 35% grazes 40.5% hits and 4.5% crits. (as 10% of 45% is 4.5%) wood elves will do 15% misses, 35% grazes, 50% hits (Acc +5 means 5% bonus in all categories) Acc-Def = +5 scenario: meaning roll d100 + 5 Normal divination for misses-grazes-hits-crits is 10% misses, 35% grazes, 45% hits, and 5% crits heart orlans will instead do 10% misses, 35% grazes 40.5% hits and 9.5% crits. (as 10% of 45% is 4.5%) wood elves will do 5% misses, 35% grazes, 40% hits and 10% crits. (Acc +5 means 5% bonus in all categories) So a +5 Accuracy bonus is essentially sinking the hit requirement of a d100 roll by 5? Am I right in understanding +15 accuracy (above deflection) would mean hits are negated then? And just curious, where and how are you guys confirming it's a 10% bonus in the sense it's 10% of the hit amount? AKA, in a normal scenario, how do we know it's not 15% crit, 35% grazes, 40% hits and 10% crits for Hearth Orlans? This is a typical scenario where even the descriptions do not make it clear if the bonus is additive or multiplicative (happens all the time in RPGs) so I'm curious if this is speculation or if someone peered into the code and confirmed it's the way you've outlined. Reason I ask is because now it seems to work in the opposite direction where Hearth Orlan seems universally inferior, whereas extra hit chance (and a smaller benefit to crit) in a situational scenario vs. less hit chance but more crit chance on hits (again situational, but extremely ridiculously common) seems more balanced and thus more likely to be implemented.

  17. No. It's 10% HITS are upgraded to crits. Huge difference. Let's take two ends of the spectrum and compare the +5 accuracy of elves with the +10% hits upgraded: 1st scenario is low accuracy - you have 25 less accuracy than your enemy and try to hit it. Midget DPS: 0,4 * 0 (miss) + 0,35 * 0,5 (graze) + 0,23 * 1 (hit) + 0,02 * 1,5 (crit) = 0,435 Elf DPS: 0,35 * 0 + 0,35 * 0,5 + 0,3 * 1 = 0,475 2nd scenario is high accuracy - you have 25 more accuracy than your enemy and try to hit it. Midget DPS: 0,25 * 0,5 + 0,45 * 1 + 0,3 * 1,5 = 1,025 Elf DPS: 0,2 * 0,5 + 0,5 * 1 + 0,3 * 1,5 = 1,05 If you want to build something that will be at least 4m away from the enemy elves are simply superior DPS. No question, midget is for melee only, for ranged/caster elves are the way to go. And if you look at how punishing melee can be (especially on higher difficulties) and how you won't have any defenses if you pull aggro, I would say in the grand scheme of things elves are simply much better than orlans. Sure, the latter can look like teemo, but that won't make up for the lower damage. Not quite understanding the number equations here, care to clarify? Needs more labels and explanations where the numbers are coming from. At least for me, anyways.
  18. TBH they're one of the best candidates for solo mode, I'd think. Moves like Slicken and some others buy them all the time they need to kill large groups of enemies, you'd just be spending lots of money on campfires and making lots of trips back to town. They get stupid strong after level 8 when their tier 1 spells become spammable.
  19. Hearth Orlan is 10% on crits. The only talent I lack raw numbers for is the human one. The only time Hearth Orlan is not useful is for solo play, which is just one scenario of thousands.Likewise, if we're talking about characters that already have respectable accuracy then Hearth Orlan is just the superior choice. The Wood elves have the issue of losing that bonus the moment someone gets too close, meaning it's not a good race for anything you expect to fight up close, nor would it even be a good replacement for Hearth Orlan in solo play seeing as you will quickly lose your distance advantage if you're the only target being chased. I did move Fire Godlike up though since enough people are claiming they pro.
