Stretch Goals and Backer Rewards - What do you think?
I'd be happy with another big city as much as the next person... but I'd bet good money we aren't seeing $3.5 million. It is just not likely, end bump in pledges or no.

[Merged] George Ziets as as the 2.8 million stretch goal
He is *known* to most cRPG fans, but he certainly isn't a celebrity. So that doesn't surprise me, but I'm sure glad he's involved in the PE. The problem I have with it is to get word of mouth going you need coverage. *Who is George Ziets* in response to these articles. And then said rpg fans explaining *Well George Ziets is that guy who wrote that really awesome game*. Well hopefully, the updates so far reach attention again, after today's. The name isn't even well known in broader cRPG circles, to be honest. I didn't know the name until this project started and there were threads chanting his name. And I've been a huge cRPG fan since, you know, Bard's Tale and Phantasie were released.

To Tim Cain and Remnants of Troika
Probably not being a top-down-view turn based RPG, unlike the other two, they felt it wasn't a good candidate. Yeah, best not to confuse matters like Shaker by listing prominently games like Commander Keen and Doom while trying to sell yourself as an old school RPG maker.

Stretch Goals and Backer Rewards - What do you think?
Nobody knows the long term impact of Kickstarter funding, nor how a company can be based on making games using it. No one. Not even the few who have finished games (like FTL.) It's too new.

MotB was fun and well made (for the rule set and the game engine, neither of which I'm a fan of) but I'm not as big a fan as some people on here are. That said, it had it's moments. Like standing on the corpse of a dead god of the dead. That's one of the rare game moments I'll probably never forget.

I only just finished MotB like last week for the first time. Had that game and the OC unopened since they were released until sometime last year. Yeah, NWN left that bad a taste in my mouth, Obsidian or no. Glad I finally got around to playing them.

While this wasn't my solution, it is what they did. So they must think it's the best idea.

disappointed (torment fan perspective)
Monks and Psionics and Bards are all in the 1st AD&D Appendix A, I believe.

Yeah, I think someone (Feargus, IIRC), said that they were thinking of having you unlock the ability to recruit more and more mercenaries as you progressed. Basically, you would be able to pick up additional mercenaries at the same rate as you encounter companions so that you wouldn't be overpowered for going with player-made mercs over story-based companions. It's also likely for story pacing. Most of these "pick up companions along the way" cRPGs use the gathering of the companions as part of the story, and having fewer characters at the start to ease you into mechanics before overwhelming you with 6 people to manage.

Paladins and Bards
I like Palladium's alignment system, personally.

Update #18: George Ziets, Paladins, Add-Ons, Rewards, and More!
Just to be clear, too... while the 4E paladin had to be divine power based and worship a god - they are not forced to be "lawful good." They can be any alignment. In fact, 4E kind of did away with the traditional alignment system of previous editions. It only had Lawful Good, Good, Evil, Chaotic Evil and Unaligned (which, if you didn't care about alignment, you chose that one - it's not the same as old school True Neutral - in fact, they painstakingly did away with the word Neutral.)

PE already inspiring others
I think once PE is done they can start getting some attention. And campaigns can be turned around quite well - Takedown and Shadowrun Online were ones that, very near the end, didn't look like they'd make it. The only thing keeping me from guaranteeing this will succeed - is the million dollar goal. If they were shooting for 400-500k, I'd say they almost couldn't fail. But a million... well, despite the last year or so of success stories, there are not that many one million dollar raising KS's. So I think they are completely within the realm of the possible... but they need some help. Like doing some interviews, getting some evangelists. DoubleFine got a huge bump, early, because Felicia Day posted about supporting it. They need some endorsements from people who have followings who'd be interested in this game, just to get some notice. And by endorsements, I mean places other than the KS Campaign's pitch page. As simple as getting some other KS game's to support them with a donation would be a big help in their credibility, I think.

I don't want PE to be another Icewind Dale
Atmosphere is certainly the correct descriptor.

If he wasn't busy with his own company and his own project right now, I'd say Brian Mitsoda.

Yea, I must have been pissed about something and I took it out on you I still don't think the'll make it, though. I hope they will, but the numbers paint a sad picture. It's easy to read too much into stuff. I wasn't trying to attack you, just quoting what you wrote to continue a conversation. All good.
