Well, yeah, I really don't think that much debate is needed to come to that conclusion. We don't have to look at nazi Germany for that, we can just look at Venezuela. Both extreme socialism and extreme capitalism is bad, in my mind. You have to find a middle ground that everyone is happy with. And no matter what, always keep an eye on the politicians. Even if they start off young and idealistic, before you know it they're cynical bastards who are merely acting out their part in order to get re-elected. And then it doesn't matter what ideology they profess.

Honestly guys, even if we do accept that nazi Germany had some form of socialism, although underpinned by a completely different ideology, does that really tell you anything about current day social democrats? It's just such a weird argument, whatever way you spin it. "I hate socialism, because the nazi's were socialists". Boom. Well, no one can disagree with hating the nazi's. The very broad definition of socialism used in this thread is making the discussion rather silly. Nazi Germany and modern day Sweden have very, very little in common. But suddenly we have to condemn Sweden for being "socialist" because the nazi's once called themselves national socialists. It just makes any meaningful conversation impossible.

Come now, I can think of a couple of people who with a more apathetic lifestyle could have made the world a better place. Why, if I could travel back in time I would certainly try to convince young Dolfie that he should just give in to bumming around, that he should stop obsessing at getting to be any good at painting and that, how patriotic it might seem, he certainly shouldn't go and join the army.

The word gamer means someone who plays games. Really, it's not a very difficult word to grasp. Maybe, just maybe... A lot of backlash could have been avoided by simply using a different word? I'm with Nonek. If you really think there is some sort of niche audience of gamers, be it female, homosexual etc. which at the moment is not getting the games it deserves, start up a company and go make those games. If the market is there, and the game is good, it'll be a big hit.

Even Al-Qaeda will accept white males who follow there religious doctrines Please list the countries that have outlawed heterosexual relationship and where the death penalty exists for anyone engaging in heterosexual relationships. This is the reality that gay people face in certain countries Please list the countries where men can't work or cant drive ? I can list countries where women have no rights whatsoever Please tell me what countries in the world ban marriage between a man a women and refuse to recognise these types of unions, these are the realities many gay people face who want to get married I can continue to list examples but I think my point should be clear. Yes, the subject. IF you want to say that a welfare state such as they exist in Western-Europe is socialist (which I don't really think constitutes socialism, but okay, let's accept that for debate's sake - I would personally say they have merely been influenced by ideas from socialist theory) then I don't see how you can say that socialism and capitalism are opposite ends of a spectrum. At best you can say that capitalism in these countries is limited, but it's like there is a single country in the world where there really exists such a thing as pure capitalism. If you would allow pure capitalism to reign, in the end you'd just replace the all powerful government you'd get in communism with an all powerful megacorp that'd you'd get in a purely capitalist world. The welfare state is as much socialist as it is capitalist, if you want to talk in such terms. The choice "Capitalism or Socialism" is much too simplistic. It's making things out to be black and white when there are many shades of grey. Between the different countries in Europe there are quite vast differences in how far they lean to either doing things collectively or putting the burden on the individual, and between allowing people choice or trying to protect people from themselves.
