Capitalism vs Communism eh? I thought that was already sorted. The Soviet Union collapsed. Russia and other states have embraced capitalism, and see how well that worked out for them. Russia is no longer a propaganda filled dictatorship that enviously eyes other people's borders. ... Oh, snap.

From the audio tapes, you can see how she could be seen as a nuisance to the police officers. It would probably have been best if she had shown her ID right away. If we believe her side of the story though, we can understand if not completely excuse her behaviour. (Her side of the story being they were just kissing, rather than the article's suggestion they were having full blown sex). Then again, things could be as the article suggests, and in that case it's rather reprehensible to try to get out of a situation like that by playing the race card. It's hard to judge, being a bit of a "he said, she said" kind of thing. To be honest, I don't know enough about what happened to judge in either party's favour.

So I was reading this today: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/14/django-unchained-actor-alleges-racial-bias-arrest-los-angeles?commentpage=2 Apparently this Daniele Watts, who had an acting role in Django Unchained, claims that when she was kissing her white boyfriend, someone called the cops. And rather than telling the person who called the cops to mind their own damn business, she claims, they came to see why a white man and a black woman were kissing in public. She felt that she was profiled as a prostitute just for being black and kissing a white man, and then refused to show her ID and tried to walk away. At this point she was handcuffed and detained, and only released when her identity was established. Her boyfriend claims the police had threatened to call an ambulance and have her drugged because she was displaying psychologically unstable behaviour. Now, obviously this is only one side of the story, and the police has not yet given their side of the story as they're still "looking into it". And the woman admits that she didn't give her ID when asked, which probably could have solved the incident a lot sooner. Some people in the comment section claim that she should not have had to give her ID when she did nothing wrong - I am not an expert on U.S. law so I have no idea if you're obligated to ID yourself in all cases. And I have no idea how she behaved, she may indeed have behaved in a way that the police might think psychologically unstable. So I am quite open to see the other side of the story here, and awaiting what the police will say. What puzzles me though is why they were asked to show their ID's in the first place and why the police would think it necessary to respond to a complaint about two people kissing in their car. So, to those United Statians reading this, can you guys explain this or maybe give some more background? I am trying not to jump to conclusions here, and maybe there is another spin on this story which would suddenly turn it upside down, but it looks quite bad from where I am sitting if a white man and a black man kissing in a car is reason enough for the police to come have a look.

We already have a thread with scantily clad ladies, so I'm not sure why we need it spilling into other threads. Although this thread is not exactly a shining moment in Obsidian history. In 300 years a keen young historian will base an entire thesis paper on this single thread, where in it will serve as a mirror of 21th century society. After he's done with the paper, he will be sedated and wheeled into cryogenic stasis indefinitely per newly issued directive, as history will be considered to be bunk and of no use to society.

In general, talking down people is always bad. Even someone who really is faster than a female track athlete putting down women for not being as fast as him is pathetic. Let's get that out of the way first. But simply stating that men have a genetic advantage when it comes to sports compared to women is not sexist or mean. It's just stating a very basic, obvious fact. It's not demeaning to women, and any attempt at making it sound like that comes across as a little sad, to be honest.

On one hand, fat-shaming is baaaad. On the other hand, it is kind of ridiculous when whale-sized people talk crap about the achievements (or lack thereof) of athletes. But that's actually fairly tangential to what I've said. My point is that "women are weaker than men, this is just a fact of biology" is kind of a misleading statement, since the gap can be overcome (in comparison to the large majority of men) with a sufficient amount of training. So basically: - if you are not an athlete you cannot discuss athletes - if you are not an actor you cannot discuss actors - if you are not a filmmaker you cannot discuss films - if you are not game developer you cannot discuss games - if you are not an politician you cannot discuss politics This is of course false. "Women are weaker than men as a biology fact is completely true. What is false is the conclusions that people make of this statement. Like if women are weaker than men therefor I'm stronger than any women because I'm a man. That is false unless the man in question actually trains his physical prowess. I'd like to add: if you're not a baker, you can't discuss bread. Sorry, if the baker gives you a blackened loaf of bread that tastes like charcoal, you'll have to eat it, and like it too. After all, you're not a baker, so you can't have a valid opinion on bread. You get this a lot in discussions, and it's laughable.

I really don't know what will change Putin's mind, if there's even anything that can change his mind. Like Gromnir mentioned earlier, the Russian economy was already in bad shape, and the sanctions are making it worse. But in a way for Putin the sanctions serve to put the blame for the bad economy elsewhere. The majority of Russians won't blame Putin, but the West for the rising prices they are faced with. It just means all the more fodder for Putin's propaganda channels, but it also means Putin really can't back down against the West - maybe even setting him on a more confrontational course than he had been planning on. Then again, it's hard to know what goes on in the man's head. Is he a pragmatist who is grabbing as much as he can get away with? Or is he going for the full package, come what may? When even Merkel, who is anything but a hardliner when it comes to Russia, feels the need to assure the Baltic states protection against Russia if it should come to an invasion, it makes me personally quite nervous. Of course, no sane person would invade the Baltic states at this point, but it's really hard to tell if Putin at this point counts as a sane person.

I sleep soundly at night in the knowledge our European Union overlords are keeping powerhungry vacuum cleaners at bay. Hurray for the E.U., now made even better for having a president I never had a chance to vote for, and who can't even speak any language I understand.

You know, I'm not the sort of person who would post supposed links to these photos only to have them lead to the most horrifying goatse images you could find... But it is what anyone who is looking for these pictures would deserve. Also, like Lexx, I have no idea who these girls are. I can only imagine they must be famous over there in The U.S. of A., since I've never heard of them.

Yeah, I feel really sad for the girl. For the rest of her life she may have the idea that she is more or less responsible for the death of someone, even though objectively speaking the man killed himself by being stupid.

Medicine residue causes doped up fishies to live a longer, more interesting life: "Study: Residue of psychoactive drugs in water also treat perch Pollutants in water systems are not always unequivocally harmful to aquatic animals. A Swedish study revealed that residue of psychopharmaceuticals used to treat anxiety lower the mortality rate of perch. UmeƄ University has long performed groundbreaking research on the effects that pharmaceutical drug residue produces on the behaviour of fish. A study published last year showed that remnants of oxazepam, a drug used for anxiety, resulted in braver and more curious activity among normally timid fish. Individuals exposed to the drug examined their surroundings more freely than normally." http://www.helsinkitimes.fi/themes/themes/science-and-technology/11692-study-residue-of-psychoactive-drugs-in-water-also-treat-perch.html

Is there any other kind of companies? Besides the ones led by gay people. Okay well Polish labour laws must be different to other countries. I work for a large global corporation and I work for other corporations all the time and I have never heard of a company that would allow any male in that company to be able to slap the asses of its female staff. All companies have codes of conduct around this this type of behaviour and its most definitely prohibited Also its highly unlikely any women would enjoy this type of attention unless it was from there partner. The idea that you really think that most women would consider this to fun or normal amazes me? You shouldn't be surprised. Poland is very ... Let's be polite and call it conservative.

I liked the first bit. Not sure I really buy the theory about Williams' comedy always being a crutch for wanting to please his mother, but it is an interesting theory. When they guy starts talking about marriage being a job though, he completely loses me. I mean, having to pay millions to your ex because you were once married to her is absurd, sure. But argueing that being a wife is a job and a husband should be able to just fire her whenever he pleases is just absurd. To be honest, he's coming across a bit misogynistic. Taking the traits of a few golddigging women and making it out as if women in general are just greedy monsters out to get men.

You go on and fight the good fight, defending people's rights to insult and herass.
-
The problem with internet and "free speech" (i.e. the Godgiven right to curse at and slander everyone while remaining anonymous) is that there is no accountability at all. I am sure only a few of the people who made those rather nasty remarks towards William's daughter about her father's passing would have dared to do the same face to face, in public. And those that would actually do that would probably have their faces kicked in by bystanders, and deservedly so.

Well... And you are an abomination unto Nuggan. So there!

Sorry, but I think if I really, really had to pick a religion, it'd be something like Pastafarianism. That or Silinism. Because penguins.

<BruceMode> Great post Trueneutral. It's difficult for someone who is in a "normal" state of mind to understand how such a disorder affects your every single thought and every decision you make, and we really shouldn't be too quick to judge. </BruceMode>

I would say that at this point the word feminism is hurting the cause of women more than aiding it. You can argue about the why of it, but the word feminism has aquired a certain stigma that is hard to get rid of. Let's put it this way, if I was championing a cause for women, say wage equality, I wouldn't call myself a feminist. I would probably get done more that way.
