Happy Independence Day - 4th of July!
Off-topic, and certainly not meant to disturb y'all's Indepence Day celebrations but... It really is ironic how that song with the lyrics... "Got in a little hometown jam So they put a rifle in my hand Sent me off to a foreign land To go and kill the yellow man Born in the U.S.A., I was born in the U.S.A. Born in the U.S.A., born in the U.S.A. Come back home to the refinery Hiring man said "son if it was up to me" Went down to see my V.A. man He said "son, don't you understand"" ... ended up seen by many as a tribute to the greatness of the USA. Not bashing, just... puzzled.

Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
They've only been fun to watch their last game. If they can keep up that performance, they have a real good chance at beating Argentina. I very much enjoy watching Messi play as well, but I'd prefer my own country to win. I'll get my Messi fix outside the World Cup. Never before have I seen the Belgian people so universally invested in their national team, and it would be nice to keep this going for a while. Plus we're all just dying for a Belgium vs Netherlands semi-final (especially since we beat their arses last time in a friendly match 2 years ago). I think the Belgium-Netherlands matches are fun, but they don't mean the same to the Dutch as they seem to mean to the Belgians. For us, our arch-enemies are the Germans. There isn't any sort of match that holds the same sort of rivalry for us as a match against them. If we get to the finals, and that's a big IF, it would be hilarious if we got to play them. Of course we'd lose, giving us enough fuel to hate those blasted Germans for another 20 years over another lost WC finals, but c'est la vie.

A Croatian court fired its cleaning lady because she tried to commit suicide during working hours instead of cleaning. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/afp/140703/croatian-court-fires-cleaner-over-suicide-bid ... That's really caring of them.- The Funny Things Thread.
Is it funny? Is it sad? A Finnish Hearthstone tournament has briefly banned female players from entering their competition. Because you know, playing Hearthstone can get really physical and women might not be able to keep up with the furious mouse clicking. Luckily, someone sane eventually decided that it was a really silly, silly idea. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/470146/finnish-hearthstone-tournament-bans-female-players/- Is there still no world cup thread? Given the choice between Belgium progressing and Argentina progressing, it's an easy choice. Belgium all the way. They've been far more fun to watch.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
Congratulations to Belgium, see you in the semi-finals- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
How could the Belgians have missed that chance? Oh my, and another. How many 100% chances can you miss, Belgium?- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
Is it too late to send these two teams home and give the quarter finals spot to Algeria?- Hobby Lobby win teh day
Hey, there's always Bacchus. He's cool with debauchery.- Hobby Lobby win teh day
This is basically what the SCOUTS said, the government could provide the contraception themselves and still fulfill their goal of giving access to everyone. There is no need to force an employer to do it. I am butting into something here that I don't claim to understand and that isn't my business, but... If the claim by businesses is that because of their religious value system they feel they cannot -and should not- in any way be forced to help their employees to get contraceptives, wouldn't they still be in the same position if the government did it with money funded from taxes that were in part raised from these businesses?- Is there still no world cup thread? What Keyrock said, but then the exact opposite. Argentina to steamroll all over Switzerland, Belgium to struggle but eventually win against USA- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
The South Korean football team on coming home was pelted with toffees to show disapproval at their showing during the world cup. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-28095829 Oh, those rowdy Koreans.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
For those who are not Belgian but still want to cheer on Belgium tomorrow: http://belgiumizeme.be/- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
At least the French Algerians have a reason to cheer for France now.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
Germans will be Germans. First they allow the other team to hope, then they crush all hope at the last moment.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
Don't worry, they're Germans. No matter what happens the first 89 minutes, they will score as many as needed in the 90th minute + extra time.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
American based Waffle House is calling for a boycot on Belgian waffles in the run up to the game between the U.S. football team and Belgium. True blooded Americans should buy American waffles instead. http://www.tmz.com/2014/06/28/team-usa-soccer-belgium-boycott-belgian-waffles-waffle-house/ Funny, me and my girlfriend were wondering exactly what American waffles would look like, and I joked that they probably included bacon. So I googled it, and it seems I was right. The all American way, put lots of bacon on everything. Not that I have anything against bacon. I love bacon on my pancakes. Hmmmmm. And even funnier is that apparently the waffle known as the Belgian waffle in the U.S. is a North-American variety of what is known in Belgium as the Brussels waffle, and thus is not actually Belgian. So Waffle House is calling for a boycot on an American dish in favour of another American dish in order to spite Belgium? I think not, they just want to line their own pockets.- Music... must go on...

It's funny but, as much as I dislike Greece as a team, I still feel sorry for the individual Greek player when he misses.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
That's it Keyrock, if Costa Rica loses it's all on you. Now, if you had wanted to really help Costa Rica you'd have threatened to make them listen to that if they didn't win.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
On Dutch television it is remarked the game developing as it does is a good thing as, so they imagine, it will cause whatever team we are up against to be tired. I think that's a load of nonsense. The next game is in six days, I am sure that is enough rest to shake off an extra 30 minutes of overtime.- Is there still no world cup thread? (the sequel)
