  1. So the siege is finally over and the following information has been made known 11 of the attackers have been captured alive. I don't envy there stay in the Kenyan jail system, but its what they deserve. So much for being martyrs. Personally I'm surprised after causing so much death and mayhem they didn't want to die? 3 floors of the shopping mall have collapsed. I'm not sure why? Some of the attackers are foreigners and are Americans. I don't see why this has shocked people so much. We know that throughout the world there are people who identify with and have ideological sympathies with groups like Al-Qaeda http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2013/09/24/203115/kenya-says-its-captured-11-of.html#.UkJivLEaLrc
  2. Sorry to hear you are disappointed, I imagine we will see this in certain KS projects. Question from my side, why would you want to play a game like this in Beta. Aren't you guaranteed to experience bugs?
  3. What software do you guys use to capture fps?
  4. I didn't even know what kale was until I looked it up, it looks healthy
  5. Whatever you do please don't tell her your view on the feminist movement and women's representation in gaming. That definitely won't win you any points
  6. Interesting, if you don't mind me asking why raw meat and what type of raw meat I've eaten Steak Tartare several times and its delicious
  7. Okay that sounds a little worrying, keep us updated
  8. Weren't the Russian partisan women who fought the Nazi's during there advance into Russia equally feared and hated as much as the Russian men, in fact I heard they were more brutal ?
  9. You funny and weird, I like you
  10. So if the law is no sodomy, we must assume that is correct? You know very well that certain laws in certain countries are based on religious doctrine like making homosexuality illegal. This is clearly a form of discrimination Its not the same thing as saying its illegal to have sex with an 8 year old child. This is done as the child is not emotionally, mentally and physically ready for this type of sexual relationship
  11. I've never actually thought about that before, good point. How do these extremists position the afterlife when they convince females to be martyrs? I'm no expert in this area but two theories I know of are: - An ironic urge to be taken seriously and have some freedom. Being a terrorist is the only way to get either in the restrictive worlds the backwoods guys come from - Being the widow of a terrorist. Which means you are frequently on the run anyway, and in need of revenge, and in need of some status to deter 'entitled' holy warriors. The two somewhat inter-relate. Anyone know any other theories? Those reasons seem the most relevant, I can't think of others that are as appropriate?
  12. Hey look, we are all aware that gamers are sick to the back teeth of PC bull****. That does not preclude a reasoned debate on the matter. I agree and I want to raise another point. Lets say for argument sake people that are pushing feminist ideas or equality have permeated the gaming scene with there ideals of fairness. What negative impact has this had to your personal gaming experience? For starters it ruined many fantasy settings with the stupid insistence on gender equality where it made completely no sense. Okay can you give some examples please I didn't realize that fantasy was the domain of male characters only? Try any pseudo-medieval setting. You cannot have such society undergo the cliché war/plague/famine story and still pretend that modern notions of freedom/equality was an option. Of course you can, that is why it is called fantasy and not historic, pseudo historic or alternatice historic. Fantasy universum give their writers ability to explore different kinds of societies than we have or have had in out world or mix idelogies and cultural models from our societies to make new societies. So it is one of core tendencies of fantasy writing to bring modern view points in settings that otherwise feel historic, because it gives you more freedom to do what you want in your world and it helps readers to identify with your characters. Well said, I agree 100 %

  14. How many holidays do you have there? It seems almost every other week you celebrate. Yeah it does seem like an excessive number. We have 13 counting the religious ones that you guys celebrate as well, like Easter http://www.public-holidays.co.za/
  15. Today is a public holiday in South Africa, its officially called Heritage Day but most people refer to it as Barbeque(Braai) Day. Today is where we celebrate the strength of our cultural and historical diversity. We believe we are a stronger nation by our diversity and we typically do this by having a barbeque and inviting friends and family around. Since I barbeque regularly I'm going to be chilling and gaming today
  16. I finally started playing Icewind Dale this weekend and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. There is something about these classic IE RPG that just gripe me. I think its the D&D ruleset I enjoy? Anyway I am currently exploring the Vale of Shadows and killing loads of undead

What negative impact has this had to your personal gaming experience? In other words people are saying that gaming genres are changing. If that's the case can someone give me examples of how games are not as entertaining as they use to be because of the push for equal representation. Because I'm not seeing any negative changes to my overall experience The only changes I am seeing is where games are dumbed down if there is a console version, like your classic RPG.
  18. ...hehehe...ain't we all, lad; ain't we all...hehehe... ...WHO LUVS YA, BABY!!... That thread always made me laugh... Oh and it's lass, not lad sweetheart Wait !!! Please don't go anywhere Raven as we don't have enough lady members who contribute regularly to Off Topic. We have everything else....humour, intelligence, sensitivity, insight....but not enough female opinions on topics I'm happy to bribe you if you stay? Maybe a game on Steam?

  20. Monte I'm not sure why you seem to be getting so upset? The reviewer still gave the game 9/10 and its the Editors Choice for September. She is not saying "don't play the game". All she is saying GTA V presents women in one dimensional light and she is probably right I do think the word misogyny is a bit harsh, I would say the game is sexist on certain levels. But not enough where I won't play it. Can we call she an it? I feel that it is somewhere between a man and a woman, which is probably why it felt the need to give its biased opinion (all opinions are biased, btw) instead of just reporting. I get that we need archaeologists to recover the lost manual on how to be a good journalist, but gaming journalism feels more like blogs that comment on games. Also, feminist are approaching the issue of women in gaming entirely wrong. If their stance was that they want more games geared towards a female audience instead of wanting to turn boy's games into women's, they'd probably face less animosity. I'm sorry but I don't agree with what you are saying. Only the last 2 and half paragraphs discuss the perceived misogyny, the rest of the review is glowing. It seems like you guys are very defensive and want to raise an issue where one doesn't exist around this review. This is her opinion, we can take good and bad things from it. And to be honest why can't we have a female protagonist in GTA V? She could be a hardcore gangster in the GTA V world? That its just the problem, it is its opinion and shouldn't bear any relevance on whether the game is good because it is not a game targeted towards women. It is a relevant as complaining that the Expendables should be more woman friendly. If people are defensive is because they perceive a female presence in gaming to be a sign of change in the genres they enjoy, which is proving to be true as there are less games for women and more games for men that try to be woman friendly. The funny thing its that most of the talk seems to be supportive of this instead of creating games that are exclusively for women, its like they are asking for scraps from the table instead of their own seat at it. I cannot bring myself to respect that. But this change in genre that worries you only has to be a problem if you allow it. Also we don't really want separate games for women and men, we want games that are inclusive of both sexes. Also here is the thing you seem to be missing. I can't see games like GTA V going away in the future despite if people think it is sexist. The financial sales success tells us and publishers that this type of game has its fans and can generate huge revenue. So no need to worry, you'll still be able to ride over prostitutes for a good few more years
  21. Melk thats not true I'm afraid There are 17-19 year old super models on magazine covers that represent global fashion movements. You can admire the beauty, it doesn't have to be sordid. But how old was this girl anyway?

  23. Nope it sounds normal to me. I don't think you ever get to an age as a man where you won't appreciate the female form. No need to be embarrassed about looking, especially at a gym. Most people who go to gyms would appreciate someone noticing them in a positive way
  24. They were probably smoking because they'd just had sex on the back seat. okay that's good
