  1. If you're interested I believe he'll be looking for a job soon. Perhaps you could convince him to stay? funny Walsie We would love to have him live in South Africa but he is too important and needed in the USA at the moment.
  2. Wow so I've been watching the memorial service in South Africa and its been very significant and spectacular. There are loads of distinguished and important people who are attending that include 4 USA former presidents and of course Barack Obama who flew in this morning. The UK also has several prime ministers present including David Cameron and Tony Blair. The traffic has been a nightmare with all foreign dignitaries being escorted on the highways and its raining heavily. But rain is considered a good omen in African culture so all the traffic congestion is a small price to pay for a fitting and appropriate memorial service for a great man, Nelson Mandela I am looking forward to Obama's speech, he has been very positively received by the crowds at the stadium
  3. Yes but we aren't necessarily talking about speeding, we are just talking about going maybe 15-25 km over the speed limit. I don't see why you should get fined for that ?
  4. OMG Agiel !!!! I never thought you were such a criminal, what's next? Are you going to join a Mexican cartel...you do realize that to break the speed limit is a criminal offense, I can't believe you are so nonchalant about such a serious infringement In South Africa everyone gets speeding fines, its normal and expected. I pay my fines online. At the moment I have about 12 fines in my name. If you pay these fines online they generally give you 50 % discount. What is a problem is that the Traffic Police have these random roadblocks and if they scan your registration plate they can pull you over and demand the money for outstanding fines. So my advice is "pay your fines and move on"

    Hello

    that made me laugh
  6. That sounds very unpleasant, I think you should move back to Helsinki. Its really what you are most comfortable with and the reality is we distinguish ourselves in environments where we feel most comfortable
  7. That all depends what you mean by living standards. Also, where are we talking about? Do Somalians for instance, have better living standards compared to 30 years ago? How about the Iranians? Noticed any significant change in their history? There are clear ways that government's can improve the lot of there people. Unfortunately not all governments know or follow these steps.
  8. Then we don't have much in common and it would be pointless to have any sort of discussion/dialogue regarding this matter. I really don't know how you argue otherwise. Living standards are immeasurably better now than they have been at any other point in human history by any yardstick that you care to name. Not that there isn't plenty of ****ty things you could point out, but to say that life isn't better now than it's ever been is pretty extraordinary. I completely agree and that would have been part of my answer, nice one @ Astiaks When would you say is the greatest mankind has ever been if you disagree with my statement?
  9. You actually wear shoes? I always assumed you lived a more rustic and austere lifestyle and shoes just weren't part of it, okay this proves once again that you learn things almost very day on these forums
  10. He is that big of a prick, but that was a satirical article. The quote about him being the first black rapper made me question its truth. Sadly, I had to get that far to question it. Okay good to know So he didn't actually say those things right?
  11. No, he really is that massive a prick. Wow okay, now even the fact he is dating Kim Kardashian isn't enough for me to respect him.
  12. I know your comment is more philosophical than real political commentary but I don't agree with this perspective anyway. The world has evolved in many areas. Mankind is more educated than ever before. You just have to go back 40 years to see the benighted state the global community was in. We had the Cold War and we didn't even acknowledge the importance of equal social representation of all minority groups in certain countries. Of course this is still a problem in some countries but at least we have meaningful dialogue around these problems No I firmly believe we are living the greatest age of mankind and its only going to get better
  13. http://www.codewit.com/north-america/14593-kanye-west-i-am-the-next-nelson-mandela I am hoping that Kanye West has been misquoted or this was a joke but if its true then his arrogance is astounding
  14. Oh yes that as well, good point Walsie ...good point
  15. The question is when do you stop blaming Apartheid and start ensuring prudent economic polices or rather the correct implementation of those policies? I don't really prescribe to the whole " its apartheids fault our economy isn't at the level it should be"
  16. Last week I was researching some medieval recipes. There are several websites that cover them that go back to the 14th century. Keep us updated around what you found how the meals worked out Examples? Yes so did the medieval meal work out and was it tasty? Here is link that highlights some of the older recipes http://medievalcookery.com/recipes/country.html?england
  17. I'm glad you are enjoying this game and that you are giving it a positive endorsement. It hasn't been getting good reviews generally and I am planning on playing it so this restores my confidence around if I should enjoy the game
  18. Okay, I agree. Based on what you did add chicken would have only been a tasty enhancement
  19. I'm not advocating a Mugabe style solution, but there does need to be a better 'peace dividend'. A large, disenfranchised, disillusioned and poor population is a recipe for radicalism and violence even if it lacks the unifying force that apartheid provided. I'd tend to say that the problem in Africa has had nothing to do with left/right ideology and more to do with a series of spectacularly bad leaders, and corruption. Plus a liberal smattering of bad colonial policy, east/west cold war posturing and other factors outside their control. You guys have raised some good points and the reality is the biggest problem in Africa is lack of education, corruption and leaders who are more concerned with enriching themselves than good governance But the ideological argument about left vs right is also a problem as it slows down the necessary economic transformation. In South Africa we have this new political party that has just been formed headed up Julius Malema called the EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Malema Anyway there manifesto is to nationalize the mines and banks and they want re-appropriation of the land with no compensation. There whole political view is steeped in anachronistic and flawed Communist ideology and it is doomed to actually improve the economy. Yet they have supporters and I predict they will get about 10 % of the vote next year. Now the only reason that people vote for them is because they are disillusioned with the economic transformation policies of the ANC. But the reality is the ANC needs to address the issues I stated to improve the plight of indigent people living in South Africa. You cannot achieve serious financial change by thinking you can have the state controlling key resources like the banks and the mines So the political influence from left wing groups is still a problem with the steps needed to uplift certain African countries
  20. I also like some kind of meat in my pasta but I've found if you want to avoid it for a particular reason mushrooms always offer a good and tasty substitute
  21. I assume he means that despite the perception that Putin makes sense the reality is most of us wouldn't want to live in Russia. So good advice from any president is moot if the country he governs has serious social and political problems. And I agree with this, Putin should strive to make Russia more like Western countries as far as his social responsibilities are concerned.

  23. That is interesting, its not something you would expect but I suppose it makes sense as it is about the pronunciation of certain words
  24. Even though I support the principle of nuking China back to the stone-age I don't think you guys are thinking about all the consequences Where will we get all our cheap noodles and Soy sauce from if China becomes Fallout 3?
  25. That's sounds terrible, sorry to hear. What is the purpose of liquefied frosting in a toaster?
