Why don't you make a 16 might, 16 constitution fighter if that upsets you so much? It's not like it's not viable. In spite of the current attribute bonuses. In spite of. The fact that you can sorta fall your way through the game like a drunk rolling around the ball pit at Mcdonalds is a completely separate issue.

I'm pretty sure I was given that option, the second time I played through that quest line. He gave me the breastplate, I promised to keep quiet about his ancestry, and no one died. Maybe it depends on attributes or reputation? Or maybe because second time around I was a hulking great barbarian? I have the vaguest of memories that you're correct, and that this was the quest where I ran around everywhere to get a massive buff to Might just to see what the option was, but my memory is fuzzy as hell. That being said, if true, then the option should still be there for non-beefheads, it's just that you should fail. It's another one of the problems with the automated qualifier system as-is that I've seen, that some options should be available to everyone is locked behind a qualifier. Now, I'm not opposed to options unlocking with certain qualifiers such as Attributes, but many times, there are options that should be available to everyone, they just shouldn't *succeed* unless you qualify. But as-is, you don't even get the option. There needs to be different kinds of qualifiers. Hidden qualifiers, where you can do things or try things but you will succeed or fail based on your qualifications, and then others, like now, where the option is only available if you qualify at all. The difference may seem unclear, but it's a very important distinction that is notably absent in PoE.

There is even more: if you come back to areas you explored previously, there will be new content (which really surprised me). Some is related to bounties, some is not. For example, you can find a person whom you freed from Raedric's dungeon. Also, depending on how you dealt with the Temple of Eothas, you can meet the guy from there again at Magran's fork, in Act 2, I think.

Unarmed Combat Question
Luckmann replied to Gary1986's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm not sure what you're getting at, but for clarity: When you wield a weapon and a shield, (or a two-handed weapon) you get no inherent penalties or bonuses (although most shields comes with a penalty to Accuracy). When you wield only one weapon and nothing else, you get a +12 Accuracy Bonus. This has nothing to do with the Talents, in and by itself. And for whatever reason, the One-Handed Style works with Shields. I think it's nonsense, and I think that it should've been fixed when it was first pointed out, but it's never been commented on by the developers, so we can only assume that it's working as intended, by now. For the longest time, I thought it was a bug, but guess not. Which also explains why One-Handed Style is still rubbish and hasn't been dealt with for duelists, since any fix to it would probably make Weapon and Shield crazy, crazy good. -

I was at the very end of the main questline. So. Yeah. No. You're not the first person to notice this. The game's pretty inconsistent on whether or not being a Watcher is actually a curse, and in conversation with other party members, you can speculate that it isn't and that Maerwald only went nuts because he had some pretty unusual circumstances. What's really weird is that you see ghosts and whatnot all over the place in the wilderness and Gilded Vale; but in Defiance Bay, where there's supposed to have been a truly preposterous amount of death over the last several centuries? Nothin'. Personal pet peeve when it came to the storytelling. Like you say, the whole "It's a curse" feels very unsubstantiated, when it is supposed to be the driving force of the investigation leading up to the "twist" and the reveal of the Leaden Key's plans. By the Temple of Woedica in Defiance Bay, I found myself feeling like I was acting completely out of character, and treating the Leaden Key like the arch-enemies they are much later revealed to be, even though there was very little to actually motivate me once I had acquired the Caed Nua (They dropped the ball in not calling it Watcher's Keep). Nothing, nothing, nothing in the meeting with Maerwald felt like it revealed to me that being a Watcher was something bad, or exactly what the distinction is between being Awakened, a Watcher, and an Awakened Watcher was or is, or exactly how or when we became a watcher, and how or when we became awakened. I feel like there's an entire arch missing, like surviving the Biawac was supposed to turn you into a Watcher, and seeing the Leaden Key with one of hte machines was supposed to Awaken you, but they're both practically in the prologue and then the water is so muddled that the distinction becomes completely lost. And then when you meet Maerwald, you are accosted by a storyline of what happened to Maerwald that in no way mirrors your own experiences, and is portrayed as the thing that ultimately drove him mad, under very unique circumstances. Then, once in a blue moon, you have some bad dreams that prompts a dialogue with Edèr. What really grinds my gears is the knowledge that it'll probably never be fixed. But I'd probably sacrifice a virgin to Avellone if it'd give us a "Enhanced Edition" or "Director's Cut" version of PoE, with revised content and multiple storyline and quest passes. -

Yes, of course, but that's not what happens in that questline. You're making very precise assumptions without much of a basis at all, about what Magran has or has not done, such as assuming she's been in cahoots with Woedica. Saying "Hey, the gods are screwing with us" is one thing. Saying "Magran has been doing specifically this, this and this, and I just know this, because I dunno lol" and push it onto Durance is mind-numbingly idiotic, and a terrible, terrible end to an otherwise amazing questline, and nothing short of an insult to a truly spectacular character. -

Me and a friend finished BG2 in about two-three days, doing most of the quests. That said, it wasn't a very fun experience, truth be told. -

God, I hated this item! A door for a shield! And you had to it carry aroud half the game till you found a proper replacement. I thought it was funny at first. Then I realized that it's not a joke item and that it's actually one of the best shields, and proceeded to promptly piss me off. I actually stopped using it before I found a good replacement, simply because it was annoying me that much. -
Extremely frustrating. This is another one of those "Options are hidden once you make a nonsense choice in the dialogue"-dialogues, just like with Raedric. A lot of quest dialogues and options really, really, really could use a second pass. My first thought when this happened was "Hey, I don't like this practice either, but you were being an ass. Give me the breastplate and we'll call it even." but I'm also not going to just hand it over to him. So I told him to stuff it, hoping it would lead to some pleading, and maybe he'd offer me the breastplate. Nope, of course not, stupid me. That'd make sense. You have to agree to give him the affidavit first, and then you can haggle for a peaceful resolution. It's super-frustrating that some really clear quest options are sometimes flat-out missing, or buried in nonsensical, unrelated dialogue options that have nothing to do with what you'd like to do.

I just can't see how anyone can think that Durance's storyline wraps up satisfactory. The idea of Magran screwing with him comes out of the blue and if you question it, you get caught in a dialogue loop. The only way to resolve the quest appears to make a wild and unfounded assumption and pushing it onto Durance. If Durance was a physical object, this is where I'd pick him up and throw him out of the window is disgust. -
Im interested in why you think so. I might be wrong, but quick intuition suggests that being able to get slowed less by armor promotes the use of lightish armor. Something like a fighter in enchanted leather could attack almost in clothed speed while having significant DR. Things like cuirass and propably mail would still be pointless, but even that could change if the DR to action slow correlation of armors get balanced to being reasonable(the -5 recovery penalty to everything exepth clothes, berathian and plate that i suggested). It wouldn't change anything. You'd still want to have the highest possible DR for your tanks, and the fastest possible action/action recovery speed for everyone else. The biggest effect would really be to increase the DPS of tanks, which in itself isn't a terrible idea, honestly, because the trade-offs are currently humongous. It could make off-tanks more viable, though, such as an offensively minded Paladin in full plate. I prefer the idea of both flat integer and as well as percentage. The problem really is that the lowest possible amount is +/-1, when it comes to flat integers. So if we want something scaling per level, it needs to be percentage (imagine getting an extra 10 (with 20 Con) Endurance per level, otherwise). But a flat integer modifier at creation could give a good boost to those that really need it, and a good (if not persistent) penalty for everyone that dumps it.

Unarmed Combat Question
Luckmann replied to Gary1986's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Wait, it does? You get the bonus for Single Weapon style even if you're holding a shield in the off hand? Yes. Single Weapon Style is a lot better (as in, at all good) for tanks than it is for actual duelists. -

What you are referring to has nothing to do with what was asked for, really. OP was talking about user tools to create persistent worlds á la NWN. I don't think many would be actively opposed to IE-like MP. I would question it, but ultimately, I'd let out a large meh over it. But MMO-ness or persistent worlds, custom maps? Yeah, no. -
When Does "Low Endurance" Begin?
Luckmann replied to View619's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Indeed, there's still no way to know something as basic as friggin attack speed. At least D&D games were always clear with the rules, which is funny because getting to make a new system designed from the get go for CRPGs was supposed to make everything better. I always keep saying that. That it's funny that the IE games were often more clear and had better flow in many things, when they were saddled with having to convert a turn-based PnP system to a real-time CRPG, whereas PoE had the benefit of being built from the ground up with the intent to be a real-time CRPG. They did not capitalize on that properly. -
Rogues can hold their own in melee to a degree, but they cannot really soak up damage, no. I mean, you could probably build a tanky rogue, but that is going to absolutely devastate his damage output. And rogues can absolutely make excellent use out of pistols. In fact, even if I build a melee rogue, I'd probably still keep a pistol around for short-range backstabs. At some point I absolutely intend to make a ranged rogue that uses Pistols and Arquebi both.

The combat section of the Journal could use another pass, sure, but it's the description of abilities, spells and talents themselves that really needs to be clarified. -
I am currently in Germany, and all I can say is kill me. Get me a swimming pool of snow so I can bathe is slush. I'll spend all saturday on the Northsea, as will half of the population of northern germany. But today was a workday and I had to change my wardrobe two times during the day. It's not the heat per se, but the humidity that drives you nuts. So, as I said above: Give us that icy expansion already! Absolutely. I'm in the vicinity of Hamburg (Uelzen to be specific) and there was even a bit of rain today, even though it's warm as hell. When did Germany become the tropics? D:

Alright, I'd be willing to believe that, but do you know specifically what things work differently now than depicted in the chart? Nope. Mechanically I think it's correct, it's just that the listed times are wrong. Unless I'm mistaken, it was shared by Sawyer during the beta to explain how things worked, but everything's been tweaked since then.
