You are right, because it is not present! You missed my point though, adding it would make the game far too easy. I would prefer people complaining that quick save is not present rather than them complaining that the game was no challenge. The point you seem to be missing is that having quick save in the game gives people the option to play how they choose. Do you want to save before/after every fight, go for it. Would you prefer to save only after finishing each mission, you can do that too. It has nothing to do with ease vs difficulty and everything to do with opening the game up to different play styles. At this point in time, in the gaming world, there is no reason not to have a quick save option. In my mind it borders on an ignorance of the gaming community to not include it. My current complaint and frustration is that I am kicked out of missions far too soon. When I get into firefights I like to move through them seamlessly. This often leads to a trail of bodies and collectable items and then suddenly I'm ending the area and didn't know it so I can now not go back and collect the stuff I left lying around. It's the little design choices like this that take me out of the game and show me the developers did not put player choice/control first. Quick save does nothing to affect the play styles of the game. The option to have quick save is value added for sure, but there's nothing stopping you from cleaning up an area and looting the stuff in it before moving on. Especially since the "here's a group of badguys in an area" every checkpoint is established from the very beginning. I think your complaint about your "playstyle" of running around to clear out an entire area before looting is one that is easily remedied, and as far as things to bitch about for the game, insignificant. The thing I like most about it is that the checkpoint system makes consequences more concrete. You can't quick save before a conversation point and play it out any way that you want to find the optimal path. You can complain that this affects your "playstyle" but the intent of the game is to make the player actually think and accept the consequences of their decisions. The same way that the early Splinter Cell games forced you to be discrete as Sam wasn't a bullet sponge that would die quickly.

so how long till it gets good?

I killed Darcy by tossing hand grenades at him from close range and then chain shotting him. I never even found the sniper rifle. -
I'm just curious, what difficulty were you playing at? I know some people are saying that they had some hacking/bypasses that are ridiculously hard, while I likely had LESS character skill and found it easier. Examples would be people with 5 letter hacks instead of my 6, or 10 nodes in 20 seconds for a bypass instead of my 7. I just realized, I am playing on Normal, and one guy I was talking with was actually playing on Hard. I think the difficulty level affects the difficulty of minigames too.

Rage quit for the win! I liked the story and enjoyed it a lot. I did think that Darcy as a boss was poorly done though. -
The term 'clip' is pretty common nomenclature for a gun magazine. Blame the entertainment industry in general. People have been calling them clips for years.

I don't see one for English though. It's probably stored somewhere else... EDIT: 'Int' is for English. -

Hmmmm, I never noticed lockpicking becoming sluggish. They're trivially easy though. -

Seems to be a common decision with the dimensions. -

Planescape: Torment is also more of a cult game. It took a long time for it to finally make a profit as it wasn't the most well known or popular game. -

Yeah it doesn't take much to make it more palatable IMO. But I think for some the hacking game is just intrinsically more difficult due to the nature of it. It might have something to do with the individual and how their brain is interpreting what they are seeing, and we're probably all slightly unique in that regard. -

I really liked Deus Ex's story. Originality is overrated. Simply because we've seen similar stories as DX and AP elsewhere, doesn't really take away from their respective stories IMO. -

I agree with this. The conversations in Alpha Protocol are great, but they're also totally scripted. I would have loved having situations where I could walk around an environment and talk to people. It'd go a long way towards Alpha Protocol feeling more like an RPG. I don't think it's a huge knock against AP though. I just beat the game and enjoyed every moment of it. It's one of those "it'd be nice to have, but since it's not there I don't find it that bad without it" -
How to lenghten dialogue countdown
Thorton_AP replied to Arunak's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
What I find myself doing, as I briefly mentioned, is taking a quick look at my potential responses right away. As I listen/watch the cutscene, I know where W, A, and D will point (W is always an aggressive approach, A is suave, D is professional), and a quick look at the actual words used. Then I just remember what my potential choices were. On the plus side, I find that the majority of the time, the responses ARE "Aggressive" "Suave" and "Professional" so it's mostly a check to see if a particular conversation node has a 4th option, or something a bit more context specific for the line. It takes some getting used to, but if you're listening in English that should really help. Those with non-english subtitles sound like they are getting the shaft Given the segmented nature of the subtitles, I think their advantages for "not missing anything" do not outweigh the fact that it'll take your focus away from the actual cutscene and potential responses in this case. I hope it works out for you! -

I think one thing missing is the very well done non-combat areas from Deus Ex. -

Are you playing with English Subtitles? ( I see you're from Italy ) I didn't play with any subtitles on and as a result I was never distracted by them. I would typically read my options as I listened to the actor and had no issues in that way. I can understand that if your eyes are stuck on the subtitles due to language, this is a definite issue. -
The big concern is that, if this guy goes and makes a big rant, and claims he's not proud of working on the game, there is likely some sour grapes somewhere. I don't think this is just some guy that is disappointed with the direction of the game. This is a guy that was probably let go from the company and feels he was treated unfairly. In other words, someone with a bone to pick. JMO.

Hehe nice. The hardest one I have found so far was a "bonus" computer in CIA. I seem to do a good job of finding the code in the letters. I imagine there's some usability issues. People with minor vision problems will probably struggle mightily with that minigame. -

Thorton_AP replied to Reg1.1's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I had level 13 in the skill. The final mission in Rome was a nightmare with the hacking there. 15 seconds to hack, 4 letter combinations and resets every 4 seconds? Screw you hacking minigame! The gear must make a big difference. I am pretty sure they were at least 6 letter combos for me, and I had the gear that improves your hacking in my armor. I may have had intel as well. However, it was my first hub so it's possible there is some scaling. -
It's amazing the lengths some people will go to to undermine someone else's opinion of the game. There's a lot of positives in Alpha Protocol. The only bugs I have found is occasionally my character gets stuck when I use cover (it happened twice in Saudi, and once in Taipei, and only the Taipei required me to reload to a previous save point). While I think the Hacking minigame is very clunky on the mouse, I don't share the sentiments that other people have that consider it unplayable or exceptionally hard. I do use the armor addon to improve my hacking, and now have about 9-10 points in sabotage as well. I feel that Alpha Protocol has been a more enjoyable experience than Mass Effect 2 (and a much more enjoyable experience over Mass Effect 1). I like all three games though (I beat Mass Effect in one sitting..... one loooooooooooong sitting. I would have done the same to AP except I needed to go to work today )
