  1. I think unless you have an understanding of how it came to be, you're speculating just as much as I am. There are no doubt people excited that this is specifically a Dungeon Siege title. They've stated their opinions regarding this right in this thread. And you're right, my reasoning does work just as well if it was bayonetta 2 or Phantasia 2. I don't recall saying otherwise.
  2. Because it was greenlit for production and has financial backing? as distinguishable from any other obsidian project? HA! Good Fun! It is distinguishable from any other hypothetical, not actually existing project. You're assuming that Square-Enix, or another publisher, would not only green light the project if it was identical but not DS, but also the recipient of equivalent funding. Why ds? Why not?
  3. I always shoot from cover, and it isn't always a kill. The shots just do a lot of damage. THe last mission I had people that could survive it. It depends on the damage that you do, which means things like what pistol and what modifications you have on will affect it. Get the weakest gun and put on all mods that reduce damage, and you won't get instant kills all the time. Especially if you're not using special ammo.
  4. Maybe if you're playing on hard. But even then I don't find the game remotely unplayable. At the same time, I'm used to games like Deus Ex. After listening to all the hulla-baloo about how clumsy the shooting mechanics were, I was literally surprised at how much they weren't an issue to me.
  5. This is in large part due to the difficulty being set to hard as well. It might be exceptionally unforgiving, but once you get "good" at the hacking minigame, it's probably a lot easier. I don't think as much work was done into balancing the game at the harder difficulty level (which I think is par for the course for most devs). The game is intended to be played at normal IMO. Good luck with hard. It's going to be hard
  6. Eleborate please. The only choice where I *really* felt the timer was waaay too short is . Don't work like the critical hit perk of the pistol. Is succeful if you are lucky but with the pistol is always a guaranteed kill. The pistol is definitely not a guaranteed kill with a critical hit headshot. I have had it so that some enemies have a sliver of health left (I then got the next level pistols which gave me +2 damage, and then it went back to one shot kills).
  7. Because it was greenlit for production and has financial backing?
  8. I think that that would be pretty cool actually! A "hidden" hesitation response which is typically bad haha. Sounds like for you, all they need are a little bit longer of a timer for some of the shorter/less urgent ones.
  9. If you have a shiny new rig, the "bloat" from Steam will be virtually non-existent. Ironically, they could allocate the exact same amount of memory and processor cycles to have the actual game monitor your progress for achievements, and I doubt people would actually care in that case. And the "achievement tracking" doesn't require the user to be online (as previously indicated).
  10. I still like the timer. If you're playing in a different language for subtitles, then it sounds like its a definite issue as the subtitles are broken up (likely to prevent people from circumventing the timer). I do agree they could find ways to rework the skill system to keep it, while still allowing Mike to be somewhat accurate with his weapons at close range without waiting for the critical hit.
  11. The reason why I don't have a problem with stuff like this is that, in the majority of the circumstances, these are things that Mike will likely conclude. Especially while in a face to face conversation. So the reputation meters are actually a wash for me, because as an RPG it's whether or not my character recognizes it, as opposed to myself. I like the post-mission evaluation. They're far enough past your decisions that you can't go "oh, well I didn't like that" without replaying a whole level, while at the same time give you tangible feedback for your decisions which I just find rather cool. Of course, NOT having the post-mission evaluation means that bugs related to the system are more easily hidden, since you won't have any expectations over what is different.
  12. Isn't it irrelevant to you? You didn't buy the game if I'm not mistaken.
  13. And okay with enabling the government with killing people
  14. Considering that some consider Alpha Protocol's PC version a disaster port, I'd say this is sadly a very likely possibility. EDIT : Seems that my impressions that Dungeon Siege III is a project to stay afloat have at least some ground in reality. There are going to be haters everywhere. The only issue with the PC version IMO is the hacking minigame, which I am still very good at and rarely fail.
  15. That is strange for sure. I imagine they made that decision because they wanted to differentiate between the guns in some way. Same goes for the odd decision of all SMGs are dual wielded.
  16. I'd be okay with concessions towards a Mass Effect 2 style (though I didn't mind the combat for the most part), as the big strength of the game was the dialogue and choice IMO.
  17. I actually really enjoyed shotguns on my second playthrough. A close up shot to the head bugged most guys up real good. And with a large group of people, the special ability would knock them all down and let you stomp on them to take them out of the fight.
  18. I don't consider it a typical third person shooter.
  19. By 'generic' I mean 'it hasn't a strong personality'/'doesn't look unique'. Depending on how it's done, it's not necessarily bad, though of course, most of the time it is. That was the look of Dungeon Siege I & II by the way, so they're keeping it in line with that. So what is an example of a Fantasy RPG that "has strong personality" and "looks unique?"
  20. Since I hate that term, what do you mean by "generic?" You're using it as a pejorative and I'm curious why. It's so overused it's become meaningless IMO (that and I think most people don't actually know what the term means, and simply use it to say "I don't really like what I see but I can't put my fingers on it).
  21. I get an immediate introduction to the setting and can start wondering what the ideas for the game may be, and begin to determine if what I have seen so far interests me on that point. People like trailers and teasers. I'm not sure why. Many gamers saw the difference between the FMV of Final Fantasy VII and the actual in game shots on prerenderred backgrounds. Heck, if you played the PSX, you probably can make that distinction.
  22. I am about halfway done my third playthrough on the PC. I really enjoy it
  23. Yeah never use the "Load Last Checkpoint" option. Always manually load it. Weird bug but at least it's an easy workaround.
